The brand Captain Yaw was conceived by a trio of individuals - that of Claude & Clinton John (Brothers) and Natasha Osei (Wife of Clinton) back in 2019. All were seeking more out of life & shared a hunger for success - which led them to seek opportunities in Ghana. The idea to come to Ghana was just that back in 2019 - An Idea!
But with an idea, comes planning, and so the seed was planted.
The trio took a trip and decided to really see what Ghana had to offer. The trip was only for 7 days - so it wasn’t a lot of time, but enough to see the opportunities around them. By the end of the 7 days, they had secured a shop!
And so the first Captain Yaw shop was birthed on February 17th, 2020, in Osu - Accra.
This was bittersweet for the trio, as upon their return Covid 19 had hit, and the UK and Ghana went into a shutdown. No flights in, No flights out. The trio decided to see the blessing in the situation and decided to perfect their dream of owning a Fish & Chips shop.
This meant, Eating, Sleeping & Breathing Fish & Chips. So that’s just what they did. This didn’t come naturally to them as living in the UK for brothers Clinton & Claude was very different, as the pair were both Gas Engineers for a London Borough. While Natasha was a Document Controller for a global construction company in London. All were in very different occupations.
Fast Forward to 2021, post-Covid 19, And with that Captain Yaw, which was once thought- was made a reality.
The First Traditional Fish & Chip Shop in Ghana was officially opened on 20th November 2021. Captain Yaw, was given the seal of approval, and the shop was opened by the British High Commission. A marvelous touch, as Fish & Chips is a well-loved meal for the British Nation.
Since the opening, the new brand has gone from strength to strength, bringing the Traditional and Authentic flavors of Fish & Chips to Ghana.
The Trio of Claude, Clinton & Natasha has brought the niche of Fish & Chips to Ghana - Africa.
Captain Yaw to the World.

I clicked link and nothing pops up
The part about the workmen not showing up and making excuses got me laughing😂😂😂😂 . Could quite easily be my 🇯🇲 people. Experieñcing this all the time. I'll say no more!
I really like Natasha and Clinton. I was just at their shop yesterday for the fish and chips. Their jerk chicken is also very good.
Sounds great!
These are the kind of people that Ghana need’s well done guys I’m already inspired 🔥😍🥰♥️❤️👍🏾🙏🏾
Ghana is Paradise for the SOUL.
Absolutely loved the innovation and transparency of this couple! Can't wait to try their restaurant one day soon! 👌🏾
You should!
I LOOOOOOOVE dis couple. The Ancestors GOT ya back. Locations SHALL multiply.
I just love the honesty of this couple, they walked us through the process, can’t wait to visit their chip shop, massive big ups to you guys!!!! Well done !!!!!
We agree!
Can't wait to visit this lovely couples chip shop
Can't wait!
The biggest problem we have in Africa is not lack of resources is lack of not knowing what we have, and those who know what we have don't know what to do with it, simple things like time management we are still struggling with the concept of time., solutions to problems are also a big missing link. Every difficulty and challenge will be mystified.
Very true bro. You hit it right. Because of that, most of us have travelled to live outside Ghana. After, we realise that we have a lot of untapped opportunities. Our problem is that we have been brought to always complain about everything in Ghana. What we were not brought up to know is to every pro blem, there is a solution and those who find the solution wins with a financial reward.
Dentaa, Nana Yaa mentioned that she struggled taking care of her kids by herself when her husband hadn't come to Ghana at the time. I feel its a good business opportunity to open a place for the diasporian who have kids to get a babysitting institution at a fee so they can go and do their errands during the day without worrying about their safety. Both those who wants to come stay and those who come for visit. What do you make of that.
By the way I loved the interview. We Ghanaians are good people.
Yes great idea. There are loads of opportunities in Ghana
This is definitely needed
great idea
definitely a good idea
Hi where do you get your potato chips? Can't we grow potatoes in Ghana?
Great podcast! I’m in the US and I registered my business there back in October 2021. I’ll be back within the next couple of months to buy a house and setup the rest of the business. I would be interested in the couples checklist to support their employees. Great ideal!
Why import the potatoes? There is a huge potato farm in the Volta Region.Check out IVY PROSPER UA-cam Channel. She got a video about the farm.
It may not be the best potato for the chips. But they could mention it to the farmers and see if they can grow them if that is the case!
So happy for Clinton and his wife on this journey, may God continue to guide them because I know they will expand.
I just wanted to say thanks to both the interviewer and this lovely couple for sharing their story, it is such an inspiration and encouragement for me to do what I need to do. I pray God’s blessings and protection over them and their family. Lots of love 💗 from the UK 🇬🇧 and Grenada 🇬🇩
In Nigeria, Plateau State is the major producers of Irish potatoes. Other places with high altitudes are Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State and Obudu, Cross River State. Irish potato can grow well during harmattan when the North is generating cold.
that was exactly what was thinking as well, they should try and import Irish potatoes from north Nigeria, like, Jos particularly, even their sweet potatoes are also good 🥰🇬🇭🇬🇧
I love this couple. Hardworking, thorough, positive mindset. I hope their chippie THRIVES! I wanna get to Ghana in the next year and I'll be coming for fish and chips!
I'll be sharing this video.
Very best of luck, guys! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🍾🥂
Well done guys.... and good luck in your business venture in Ghana
Big up
I will check them out when next in ghana
Thank you
Can't wait to visit. Proud of them. Grenada is the island of spice....
It sure is
This guy is Ghanaian, even that gap in his teeth 😅 ✌🏾. All the very best guys. I can’t wait to come and try it!
Alot of Grenadians have it.. My mum and my sister have gap too :D!! And my mom grew up sharing Anansi stories with her friend the 1950s so there's definately some Grenadians who are of Ghanian ancestry.
Kwahu maintains weather is the best place to grow Irish potatoes. Check the old school people of Kwahu - they will direct you to the best people. 😎✌👌Uganda is also good in farming Irish potatoes. Contact the Uganda agribusiness guide to buy Irish potatoes for food and Seed tubers for planting.
You should write a 'How to Book', this would be great for those who are looking to move.
Your interviews about diaspora transition are always great but this one is super amazing especially having a non-Ghanaian enjoying life in Ghana. It feels so inspiring. 😁.
We're all preparing to come home. Ghana is home.
With love from Toronto-Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you 🙌
Mi bredda, well done to you both. With God continual blessings sky’s the limit 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
"Liked" The concept of having people that would encourage you. Negativity is a Killer of vision.
Empowering! God bless you ODANA Network and the wonderful couples.
Ghana is the best place to be 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Best interview 🙌 👌 👏
Thank you
Contact University of Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale - they were giving funds to start planting Sarpo potatoes in 2019. Sarpo pototoes is also great for fish and chip business.
Banging show as always, the chip shop couple great stuff, I'll have a large fish n chips 👍🏾 🇧🇴🇯🇲
They really need to look within Ghana and Africa for the source of that Irish Potato. Build that brand and replicate it all over Africa.
And, yam is abundant and a great substitute.
What a beautiful couple! Happy for you, well done. Any nation you go to, you will be an asset.
wow that fish and chips looks super legit. I want a taste. Great job guys. Big ups yourselves 😁
So good
not every workmen in Ghana are laid back. it depends on who you get. some are very serious business men
Thank you for saying this!
It’s unfortunate that the narrative always seems to be Ghanaian workers are lazy and laid back . Whilst it’s true there are some lazy and unprofessional workers, that’s not always the case and I personally have worked with people in the building industry whose knowledge of their trade is top notch and can rival any workers abroad. I think the main problem is that in order to save money, people tend to employ people who’re not very well versed in their trade so they end up having problems.
Volta region land is good for potato farming
Oh good to know
You guys are awesome 👌....one day Dentaa it will be my pleasure to meet u ..preparing from the UK to the Soul Land 🇬🇭🇬🇭.🥰 bless u 😊🙏
Yeaaa we can’t wait to meet you too
Well done for sticking to your dreams 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍
100% 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Fine gurl Dentaa. Big up yourself.
Thank you
Wow..Wow...Wow!!!👏👏👏I dare say nothing can stop these two wonderful Lovebirds from succeeding here in GH no matter what they endeavour to do. Great attitude they have👏👏🙏I mean their analysis, pros & cons were simply on point!!!. Simply a balanced perspective of Corporate-GH with it's related socioeconomic elements. I wish them super-well.!!!.They should expect my visit soon to add my little quota to their success story. 🙏Where is the business situate please?
It’s in osu. Thank you for your support.
@@ODANANETWORK you have their contact?
Very motivational and inspirational 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
💯
Remember growing sweet potatoes in the back garden in Tema Community 11 during the 80s famine. Harvested them in 3 months
Wow I’m Tema ? Good to know
Thank you!! Inspirational!! I'm coming to Ghana!....with my plan!!!
Yes John. We will be here to support you
I am Spewing!! Wait for it, bad pun alert, Spittin Chips!! I was literally staying up the road from the street they are in, and I missed this gem! Well I will be back guys for sure, and working on this year, I have to admit, I was probably biased and trying to eat local Ghanaian food, but when that much research goes into the right potato and chip, fresh made sauces, thats something I can seriously appreciate.
Thank you for your support.
My mums backyard in Ghana is very fertile, she grows plantains there, happy for you guys to try if it works, it’s not a big land but it is something let me know if you are happy to try.
Thanks for sharing
There are different types of potatoes including those exact Irish ones in northern Nigeria including Jos, Plateau state and it's sold in big sacks.
Really that’s good to know.
WOW WOW! This was great and inspirational. "listen to the triggering voice within" Me Soon come Africa.
Have you thought about adding yam chips to your menu, as a substitute to imported potatoes. I visied Ghana in March/April this year. Had a very wonderful experience in Accra (Great get together 60th birthday party for a friend at Lambadi beach hotel, nice lunch at Movenpik hotel, got some nice art and carvings from the art market, brief tour of independence square), Cape Coast (Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle), Tema (African Science Academy, a school for gifted African girls).
Regarding service levels, most people don't want/can't pay UK prices, so why do we expect UK service levels 🤔?
I wouldn't survive as a builder in Ghana because day rates are really low compared to what I'll get in Europe. It takes time for service levels to rise.
The few who provide excellent customer service/workmanship should be celebrated and paid well for that culture to take off.
My 2 cents.
I hear you but at some point people should take pride in their work. You go to a supermarket and the person serving you looks angry at you. Do we really need to be paid to be pleasant.
Good thing customer service is a win for diaspora people and they can steal customers from bad businesses and hopefully offer better wages. Sometimes it is worth to put effort and worry about the rewards later.
Absolutely fantastic... *they're just missing the gherkin pickle or/coleslaw* I wish them continued success with their business
Congratulations Clinton and Natasha!!!
This was such an AMAZING interview!!!! I could feel their spirit! We are so immensely proud of them to have the courage, no less with kids!!! of course it will not be easy but I am sure it was worth it. Britain is designed for those who are content with a decent life not those who want to be exceptional, don't get me wrong, you can be exceptional but it's not for the majority, I've been living in Britain 20 yrs now and I love it
Denta was henjoyying😩 I must try this place THIS YEAR
You must
Brother Kwame and Sister Yaa what role models owing their Captain Yaw Fish Bar in Accra.
Am hoping next summer when I come to Accra, I will visit Captain Yaw and taste their chicken and chips.
Big up to you both Kwame and Yaa.
We are Africans as one family one blood and one people no matter where we are.
Genius idea
I always told my friends even if go out dere to mk billions I ll forever be home to spend it
This is one of my favorite episodes!! I am always happy for African Americans who take the leap, but when a fellow Caribbean/West Indian person makes the leap I get so excited in my soul! Usually it's Jamaica, but I am happy to hear Grenada this time and in a previous episode. I am from Guyana (US based) and I can't wait to hear about Guyanese making the move. I agree with what Clinton said that the similarities between the Caribbean and Ghana makes the transition a bit better in that we feel at home more quickly. I wish Natasha, Clinton and Claude all the success in the world. Their generosity and kindness are shining through and I know that God will bless them and enlarge their territory, because I can see they have the heart of a servant - make a profit of course, but at the core they want to serve. God bless you all.
Thank you Nat.
