- Have you ever needed to do laundry and didn't have any power?! No?...well us either! But we have a sweet "off the grid" laundry setup from the country/Amish store in Ohio called "Lehmans" in the event that we do!
The soap used is an all natural variety from our local store
I have done quite a bit of research on hand washing clothes, different ways and ideas...I think that is the best set up!!! Alot of ppl like it/use it!
40 yrs ago when we were newlyweds and poor college students, I used the bathtub and a clean toilet plunger. I would get blisters wringing out the socks and sheets. I sure appreciate that I don't have to do that anymore. This would have been awesome and the wringer would have saved my hands.
Sometimes when I'm too lazy to go to the laundromat I wash a small load in the bathtub and I hardly squeeze the water out and just hang them over the bathtub and leave a heater on.
I bought a cheap washing board and did my laundry in the tub when I was a poor college student. Decades later I retired the washing board to serving as back porch decoration, and Hurricane Katrina smashed it. I thanked it for its service as I placed it in the burn pile with the remnants of all the fallen trees.
Which was super ironic because we didn't have electricity for a month after Katrina and I was washing clothes in the nearby creek and actually needed that washing board for the first time in 20 years lol
But now your sick from detergent.
I have the rack to hang them just like yours and use the wonderwash crank. Also brought myself a Gentlewasher that cost me 300.00 dollars that crank but it was a birthday gift to me. I'm 62 and hands hurt from years of washing clothes crafts knitting crocheting etc. All learned by grandma. Oldest of 7 girls and 2 boys. Had to do everything at early age. To say all this I can not afford that beautiful peace of equipment your working with. Enjoy
Mz K Hard - I'm 62 as well. And 2nd oldest of 7 girls and 2 boys haha. I checked out that Gentlewasher and didn't care that it just spins in circles. I'd rather have something that actually agitates the clothes.
The first I thought this wasn't going to stay rated G. That Lehman's looks like the best thing there is.
And also you can put a bucket under the spout to catch the water and use it to chain off something wash off a patio chair , your patios, If it's clean soap you can put it in your plants... 😄👍❤️
I always use dish gloves because my hands get blisters and it's easier to strain the water out
I'm considering purchasing one. Are you still using it and have you had any serious issues with it? I'm doing light washes now by hand in a bucket. At 66 I'm going for the minimalist lifestyle as possible, I think our planet is worth it for one. Great demonstration and I was thinking "man this is the guy I want as my camping or off grid buddy." I subscribed in the within the first minute of watching. Have a nice day!
You forgot to wash your skivvies!!
$900 lol. How is a manual washer more expensive than an electric washer? xD
We made one
A modern one lasts about a decade and a manual one lasts a lifetime.
Made in the US plus this will last forever
@@me000 *mass production. (A 30 gal water heater cost more than 40 gal because 40’s are mass produced.)
I don't miss these days as children this was our chore and to put every piece of clothes through the wringer was job. Then mom bought a washer that could spin the clothes it's self, boy that was heaven. I guess that's why I wanted no part of farm life anymore.
Thank you for the wonderful comment! I guess it’s only fun if you don’t HAVE to do it :)
@@BlueyesBelow so true!!!!
To Pitbull: Farming is difficult.
I would love a semi-automatic or manual washer!
I really like that it would probably give me a good workout and then I’d hang my clothes outside on a clothesline because that’s what I would use in Yorkshire in Northern England
I really enjoyed the process when weather was pleasant !
Where to buy the wringer set?
Holy crap, I want one of those!!
Jesus loves you! He is coming soon:)
If you find one i want one as weĺl
Check out Www.lehmans.com to see what they have
@@BlueyesBelow Sadly, I don't think it would fit in my apartment 😥.
Better off buying a portable washer and portable dryer for way less.
A proper drain would be an improvement instead of paddling around in water.
With the pants off you better be careful you don't get something caught in the wringer!
Haha
make more videos con vintage aquiment.
For over a thousand dollars it seems they would have something besides wooden legs.
I think it has more to do with the vintage look and feel of it
It seems so low to the ground. Did you find that you were bending over alot to use it?
Yes, it was a bit low but you could put it on stilts or a pallet to raise it up a bit and make it a better height
Sono super appasionato di lavatrici ma questa non l'avevo ancora vista! BELLISSIMA 👍
Sir. I want this washing machine. Available on which site. And its price plz. Thanks.
Hi dear where did you purchase the washer??
This came from Lehmans In Ohio . Look them up online
Lehman's sells that little thing for $789 crazy.
More if you want the one with the ringer.
@@reedamanda814 I purchased a ringer roller from Amazon for $159.00 its heavy. And the fellow that makes the pioneer washers north of Alburqurque NM made me a bigger one for $400.00
Defentally defentally defentally not worth the well over $1000 for it. and there are flaws with it...these exact type washer tubs have acteueally been around for well over 100 years...so paying that price for a remake holleywood makeover...really ? no way defentally not worth the price
Wow that beats a washboard and plunger I am definitely getting this setup thank you
I'm a ohioan
How long does it take onna normal day for pants and shirts
This is a cheaper made version of the steadfast. Even the legs on the steadfast are steel, tho. Over $900 for a knock-off?! Pish.
That may be true, but where can you buy a Steadfast?
What's the measurements of the basin?
I was born in Toledo Ohio ... I now live @ Phx Az .... I bought a small cabin @ Show Low AZ that has no washing machine and was looking for cleaning ideas ...
There may be a cheaper version out there, but last I remember, these sold for nearly $800. Kind of crazy for what it is
It's also $1000 dollars. eesh.
We wash clothes by turning them inside out and wearing one more week LOL. Have a good one!!
I’ll keep that in mind 🤣 thanks for watching!
Lol but there's always that second week! Or do you then turn them back right-side-out and figure, well, another week won't hurt?! :)
Can I wash my bottom with that ? 🤔
Perfecto !!!!
It reminds me of the old ringer washers
hell yeah
We used one of these washers back in the 1970's when we first built our off grid log cabin. Loads of CLOTH diapers were washed in it over the years and we had strong arms to show for all of our effort.
I don't like the wood legs. I think I rather find and buy a 1960's Maytag with wringer.
That wringer not for me as my laundry I handwash plunger style in the tub. The wash machine does look like it will do a more predictable agitating washing job. Wonder if it would fit in my tub? Then a seven inch high plastic produce crate which fits across my tub and nicely under the faucet to rinse. I can put other laundry underneath that as either a presoak or light wash. My ninja spinner a pain when it occasionally unbalances but par for the course for that type of machine but would further dry, extracting more water out than it appears with these old fashioned wringers.
This actually looks like fun!
It's the BEEEST!!
I'd LOVE, if they would ship this one to Denmark, but it seems like..they don't..😥🤷♂️
WOW where can I buy one of those things ?
This came from a store in Ohio called Lehman’s, they do have a website. It’s kind of like an Amish style store
I love that soap you use. It is worth the $10-$11 because it's for washing hair, hands, body, and now clothes? After watching this, I might just have it as my only soap from now on. It smells so good and natural too. The question I guess is... Can you use it for dishes?
I have never seen anything like that how interesting...!!! I would love to have something like that.. but I know you just showing this hard works on the video right?. Cuz next time you have to watch that a little longer for it to get clean... ❤️😌👍
I go to Lehmans and other Amish country places in Ohio since they are only a two hour drive. Lovely anytime of the year. While that is nice it is very expensive so save up your money. A wash tub and a new toilet plunger(drill some holes in the rubber part) does a good job of washing clothes and cheap also.
What's the name of background music?
Thats neat!
geez......that's doing laundry and getting a workout at the same time lol
Did you make this or buy it? Its pretty freakin cool
I bought it at an Amish type store called “Lehmans” in Ohio!
Yeah, about $1000 worth of cool.
Where can I purchase this?
Check out www.Lehmans.com, I bought it in store but you can find them online as well
I like doing laundry by hands an this looks so much fun were can I get one
These can be bought at Lehman’s country store!
@@BlueyesBelow thank u very much
Where can i buy the setup?
Check out www.Lehmans.com. They are a store in Ohio
what year was this produced...?
The video or the washer setup?
@@BlueyesBelow
washing machine i mean...
No idea, but these are based on very old versions. It’s a modern unit from Lehmans.com
How much money do you save washing and drying you clothes this way? I started hang drying a few loads of laundry a day (big family) and save $75 a month on my electricity bill.
It was never really about saving money for me as there is only two of us in my household, but more about having an alternate means if needed. It is a fun way to do laundry on a nice day! 😊
You’ll still need to run the water pump (electricity) to fill this, but you would save some electricity on the agitation process. Your time spent manually doing laundry *may* not be well spent, depending on how busy you are. Good luck!
How long do you agitate? Looking to buy this, and most people reviewed that it took only a few minutes per load?
That’s personal preference and obviously depends on how soiled the clothes are, but a few minutes of agitating, draining the dirty water, agitating again with clean water to “rinse” and then wringing everything out. Maybe 15-20 mins total?
@@BlueyesBelow Perfect! Thank you!! We have a large family of 9 so time is always a concern, but with lots of hands to help it should be really doable with that amount of time per load! Thank you!
Glad to help, it really is fun using it.... Good luck!!
Where do you get the washing/ringer machine from. Thanks
This came from the store called “Lehman’s” in Ohio
@@BlueyesBelow Do they sell it online anywhere?if they do tell me where thank you very much 😊
What is the brand name of the item?
Yes they do, check www.Lehmans.com for everything. Not sure of the name brand, they may have made it themselves
Price
Around $800+. Check out Lehmans.com
Take it all of bro! Common have a pair lol
Do you have/plan to make more videos on living off grid? I'm looking for more off grid channels to follow but only see this video on being off grid.
Thank you for watching, but I don’t really plan on making anymore at this point.
En español por favor
What about if it's freezing outside? These washers are sold out right on Lehman's site but I'm still considering one.
That’s a great question and for colder temps I would just use it inside the house with a drain pan underneath of it that I could carry to the bathtub, or connect a garden hose to it and run it out the door! :)
I am going to be parting with mine since I don’t use it much, so if you’re in Michigan, let me know!
@@BlueyesBelow I am actually in Michigan. Northern Lower Peninsula.
It’s a small world sometimes ☺️ I’m in Muskegon!
@@BlueyesBelow Oh ok! I'm just south of Traverse City in the tiny village of Interlochen
Oh and now that I'm exploring your channel, I see you're very familiar with TC. lol
Does it work? I mean does it really get clothes clean? Like mom clean?
It does work rather well and really tumbles the clothes. It’s not as good as the electric washing machine I suppose but it’s much better than not washing at all!
Theresa’s birthday present. She loves it
Wonderful!!
Pitty we couldn’t get them in Australia the way electricity is going up we should all be going for them. I would seriously love to get one but they don’t post outside of America bit of a shame that, a lot of campers and off grid people would love one, me for one.
There may be somebody who will ship. Perhaps try looking on eBay or Amazon for something similar
@@BlueyesBelow Thank You I will do the machine is good well made would love one for my off grid adventures, well not adventures I like to get away from modern stress and digital invasion I like a good collection of books my bow but I like to stay clean.
I agree with getting away from stresses. I have recently taken an interest in canoeing and camping away from people. I love the quiet and solitude and need that once in a while. Our modern life is just so cluttered by constant content and noise. Simpler is sometimes better
How much was that washing machine?
It’s a bit unbelievable ...but these are like $800- $900 new from Lehman’s (online Amish and country store) !
I have one. I love it
It’s definitely kind of fun doing things a little bit differently. 🙂
Are these available online?
Yes they should be, look for them on the “lehmans” website
Why didn’t you show a link or mention the price or any of that other good stuff???? I just don’t understand why people make videos and don’t supply some of the most basic information!!!
I’m not a salesman, and I’m not being sponsored...I’m just showing how to do something. All the information is there for you to do a quick search and find it if you want to know more about the product.
If you want to find it google is definitely your friend
How will this work for full size comforters and blankets? Would love to set one up in my laundry closet with a laundry sink to drain and maybe some kind of grate to maybe help drain blankets, comforters.
Probably a bit too big. This does well for a bunch of small individual pieces though
Then if the Dasher Washer is used mostly by the Amish, how do they wash their blankets?
@@abbeyl6115 Good question!
