    if I had to designate any ink to be my "signature" ink it would have to be Lie de The. I almost exclusively write in green inks, most of my pens use green, its what I journal with, take notes etc. Which would sound like it would be a signature colour use, and in many ways it is. But for a signature, or a letter to the dearest of friends, Lie de The is always in my nicest pen. It is a truly lovely ink, most inks aren't just right for me, finding the right green has been a long and tiring quest, but Lie de The is perfect for what I use it for, in which it is unique.

    I like this video. I especially like the historical research you put into this video, photos, vintage artwork, paint brush swatching, descriptions of your connections to each tea, and the sun shining through that glass tea cup is beautiful. Now for a video with suitable pen pairings. Cheers. Hey, The Hobbit!

    Thank you for the brilliantly conceived and executed review. Well done! I enjoyed seeing THE HOBBIT in its Foyles Bookshop dust jacket. Tell me of your greenish painting of the bathers. Lovely! For some reason it called to mind Klimt’s “Mermaids,” “Flowing Water,” “Goldfish,” “Sea Serpents,” and “Water Serpents” paintings. It sent me to my books to refresh my visual mind. Always stimulating. Thanks again..

I had no idea that it was as large as it was until after I bought it and then we had to rent a van to get it home, but I’m really quite happy that we did. It’s by Stephen Bagnell. “Forest Gathering.”

    I love the LTB Oolong! Fun fact about Oolong tea - the term "Oolong" literally translates to bird-dragon and means an unexpected result or happy accident. It is named Oolong for the fact that the tea is in between a Green Tea (less oxidized) and a Black Tea (more oxodized). My favorite type of tea :)

    Nicely done! Thank You! I appreciate the info on the origins of specific tea, filled in some holes in my knowledge base. When I hear of Earl Grey, I always with a smile think of that quintessential Brit Shakespearean Actor, Sir Patrick Stewart -AKA Captain Jean Luc Picard of the Federation Star Ship Enterprise D, lol “Earl Grey...HOT”. Enjoyed seeing the railroad lantern and the M600 Tortoise Red. Sure glad you didn’t taste each ink as one long term reviewer of our community used to occasionally do. Some years ago at the request of friends, she fortunately stoped doing that. BTW, I enjoyed last Tuesday’s live show. Take care and have a great weekend.

    I'm a big coffee guy (looking forward to that coffee inks video.), also an occasional tea drinker, but I don't drink tea as often as I should. The only ink here I have first hand experience with is Lie de The. I got it in one of their smaller 10ml bottles because I picked up the bigger bottle of Cafe des Iles (ironically, a coffee inspired ink) and didn't really care for it, too dry for me, so I didn't know if I might feel the same way about Lie de The. Turns out it's a great ink! I like it a lot, so maybe when I use up the 10ml, I'll have to pick up the 30.

    'Lie de The' is one of my favorite inks too. It might even be my favorite non-blue, non-blueblack, non-black ink. It's a very good ink, btw, scoring A & four stars, on my ink tests (durability).
    The color is, IMO, the color of a dried stain of black tea, Assam tea.
    The 'Earl Grey' ink has the color of fresh black tea (as it should), possibly with some lemon.
    Mint Tea is not 'Tea', but the color is perfect.

      @Vermiliontea 3 місяці тому

      @@HemingwayJones - Oh! 🤨
      Makes me wonder if the mint tea I drank as younger also was green tea + mint?
      I suppose it could have been, though I doubt it, because the mint taste was very strong and green tea hadn't really made its way into the West yet. But I suppose it could have been.
      Another thing that surprise me is why Morocco would have anything to do with green tea? Unless it's a modern thing?

    Very interesting video with several amazing-looking inks I hadn't even heard about! The only one of these I have myself is Lie de Thé (and I agree that it's a great ink!). I have two other tea-related inks: Sailor Shikiori Rikyu-cha, which is a fascinating colour, or rather many fascinating colours - it changes a lot while drying, and it looks completely different on different papers; and a different Earl Grey themed ink, Diamine Earl Grey, which I got despite the name - I don't like Earl Grey tea at all, and I am not at all happy that it's the default tea here in Norway (which sadly is very much a coffee country, not a tea country). *My* default tea is black tea without any added flavours (with a dash of milk and no sugar), and many places here don't have that. But Diamine Earl Grey is a lovely grey with a very interesting chromatography, which makes it perfect for ink art.

    Nice, very nice. I would slightly emphasize that ALL tea came from the SAME plant species. It's ALL in the processing that creates the different types of tea.
    Oh, and oolong tea is actually from China's Fujian province. There is a bit of difference between Chinese oolong (more black tea, thus the original meaning "black dragon") vs Taiwanese oolong (more green tea).
    And I blame the British for adding all the extra stuff to tea (like sugar, bergamot, etc) because by the time they get the tea shipped to them, only the black tea cake would survive the journey, and those probably need the embellishments after the journey. :D

    Thanks, HJ. Very nice inks!
    I had a problem with my Lamy Safari EF for the first time today - it wouldn't write. The converter is a little under half full and I thought maybe too much air is causing the problem. So, I turned the piston down until a drop of ink fell onto the paper towel and then I wiped off both sides of the nib. Then after writing harder than normal a few times spreading out the tines a tad, it started writing again.
    I wonder what caused that? I'm using Diamine Polar Glow ink.

    • @HemingwayJones
      @HemingwayJones  3 місяці тому +1

      Does the ink have shimmer? It can clog the feed. Otherwise it may just need clean.

    • @robertcalkjr.8325
      @robertcalkjr.8325 3 місяці тому

      @@HemingwayJones No, it has a little sheen though. It seems like the ink at the nib tip dried out. It never did that before, though I haven't had it very long.
      I ordered a Pilot Custom 912 w/posting nib that should be here today. I also got an 80ml bottle of Diamine Oxblood and two A4 dot wirebound notebooks. Maybe I won't have any problems with my 912. If I do, I'll just wet the tip of the nib and see if it fixes it.

    Hello Hemingway,
    I discovered the Sailor Moroccan Mint Tea ink a few days ago and I am obsessed with it, but as usual when this happens, I can't find it available anywhere online. Please advise if possible! I have got to have it!
    I have a bit of a penchant for French things, and I like the Herbin Lie de Thé very much, but I also think the Earl Grey is lovely. I drank a lot of Earl Grey tea when I was in college.
    Please help me find the Moroccan Mint Tea if you can!
    Thanks so much! This is a wonderful video!

      It's an herbal tea with some medicinal properties. The Freshpak Rooibos brand is one of the most common and favourite Rooibos brands in South Africa and is available on Amazon. So, if you want to try it, I would love to know which ink colour (and brand) you would match to Rooibos. Also, thank you for interesting and unique videos. Love the channel!

    So I guess that Diamine's Earl Grey is a tribute to the Earl himself then not the tea? My absolute favourite tea is Puh Er Oolong with Mate. I get it from a Finnish company and it's superb. 😇🩷🙏🙌
