That’s my dad! He did so well to restore this boat and it’s so much fun out on the boat we’re going out again tomorrow can’t wait! Well done Dad and I’m so proud of you! Love you Xxx
Love tiny half cabins!!! Great for day fishing near the coastline, and good for a night sleeping for two when it's not too cold. Trailerable with no problems, cheap, great fishing space, what else? But a boat like that... well, it's a nightmare :-P
Such a nice looking boat and quite a transformation! I've just bought my first boat and have been looking for inspiration / motivation to get it ready for the coming spring / summer. It's a 14ft day boat from Carrick Marine and has been sat unused for a good few months. I really wanted something with a small cabin (like yours) but this was too good a deal to pass by. Anyway, first challenge is going to be reversing the trailer onto our driveway so that I can start off by giving it a thorough jet wash!
Awesome boats and a fantastic save, turned out beauty! By this time (of my post) you should be sitting on a nice sunny beach picnicking with the crew with a few adventures under yer belt :)
I have had 5 Shetland 535's over the years and they are great boats, well done on doing the windows properly and keeping the steering wheel in the correct position, they are both much better done as standard. All you need is the windscreen on the top now! 😊
Truly Outstanding In Every Respect! Not only did you save the boat, you transformed it beyond expectations! Your hard work produced a beautiful outcome, thank you for sharing, your video will inspire others to consider saving an old boat and bringing it up to seaworthy condition. Subscribed.
@@hurleyofflost hi when you bought the old boat how did you know it wouldnt sink with holes or that when you put it in the water to use there was no holes left in?
The deck and cabin-top gel-coat polishing is amazing. It shows how an old gel coat can sometime be bring back from the dead without the need for paint. Congratulation.
@@lazycarper i wet sanded by hand with 1500 grit and then I used farecla G3 polishing compound with a machine polisher and finally a standard off the shelf wax put on by hand! Total cost of everything was £150!!

An excellent job mate, very well done indeed! I hope you're proud. I've got one question regarding the captain's seat, how do you see from where you're sitting? Is it a perspective thing or do you have to stand to Pilot? Just wondering but again fantastic job I bet you and the family are going to get a lot of fun with that. Cheers!
Thanks bob it’s a Shetland 535 and it’s a 17ft! You should definitely restore it! I couldn’t recommend it enough I’ve loved every minute of bringing mine back from the dead! It’s such a gratifying task!
Man I would love to find a boat identical to that I've looked around at all kinds of boats and that one would be perfect for what I can you tell me the make and model of that
Of course pal it’s a Shetland 535 18ft cabin cruiser there’s loads around they were a very popular boat in the 70’s mine is from 1974 they have a balsa wood core in between the fibreglass skins which makes them a very boyant and safe boat!
Hey is it possible to fixed the rubber for the windows with Sikaflex 522 ? A big wave crashed infront of my Shetland 535 an the window not hold and get inside so a lot of water comes in ? Thanks
Hi dean in total it cost me £3500 but I paid £1400 for the engine you can find a lot cheaper engines but I wanted a little peace of mind when out on the water!
