    Donna, I want to tell you something. I am a new quilter. I come from a long line of quilters on both of my parents side, but my mom passed away when I was young. What I was left with is some really beautiful heirloom quilts. Lucky me in once sense but no one to teach me. So I have watched a LOT of videos. All the big names on youtube. I love all of the gals I am subscribed too. But I want to tell you that I so much enjoy the pace that you work at. Lets be honest, when you "get it" you..."get it". I can tell you that I enjoy the pace, I mean lets just get to it. Now if I was not an accomplished seamstress in my own right, maybe I would need a slower video. But gosh I love how we just get to it. And I love how you also know when to stop explaining or over explaining. I will be ordering from you shop from time to time because I so want to support you. Not by just watching or sewing along. Your generosity of give aways, even blows my 42 year old son away as he walks through my sewing area. He says, "Mom are they giving away another item?" "How good are these people!". Very good Son, very good.
    Thanks for taking the fear, mystery out of this. So great. You are definetly a get it done gal. ....insert big hug right here.

      Hi Mary couldn't say it better myself. Just love the pace that Donna teaches. You are so lucky having Jordan Fabrics in the States. I would so love to buy when they have some fantastic precuts by Matt but I'm in the UK and it's so expensive to pay for the postal charges. Its almost double the price. So I buy what I can when I can on line that have free postage. Greetings from London.

    I love the Tea Time pattern! I just finished sewing the blocks together on the one I'm making. I used a jelly roll I had here, plus part of another jelly roll to make it a bit larger. And NOW I know why I ended up with more of one block and less of the other! But it turned out just fine because I made a few extra strip sets. Tomorrow my husband and I are making a road trip to my favorite quilt shop 3 hours away down in the Amish area of Ohio. I'll buy border fabric and the backing. It's just a day trip, but will be like a mini vacation!

    I am making this quilt as a bank holiday project. By my calculation the 5 x 2 1/2 strips minus their seam allowance adds up to 10 1/2 inches. When folded to make a tube this measures 5" wide, so I am cutting at 5 on the cutting triangle. Where did you get the 7" from?

    Can you do a Tutorial on the star of the show

  • @colorcrazy2944
    @colorcrazy2944 4 роки тому +1

    I am currently trying to make this quilt from the older video. Donna has pointed out in this video all the things I already know I did wrong. I really should have read the directions more than once because she says in them what to do & I still forgot.
    I missed the step of alternating the strips when cutting so I did not have the right number of sets, oh well. It's busy enough I don't think it will show much.
    Somewhere I must have stretched something, I had more than 1 tube that twisted. I wonder if there is a way to tell which seam is messed up so you could fix it. When you try to cut it anyway it does not stay square so I cut them a bit bigger and then recut and I did not end up with as many squares as I should have. This attempt is going to be much smaller than it should have been. I will definitely need borders if I want it more than a lap size..... I really hope I don't end up with them ruffling. (It would be nice to miss one mistake ;D )
    It is easy & fun, I can see trying it again. This is my first time using precut strips, I had no idea how much they shed! Sooo messy but so many pretty sets... Anyone have hints on cleaning these somehow so they shed less?
    I do wonder why this its called Tea Time? I can understand why the older video is "not in Bali", but I don't see the connection to tea...

    • @jordanfabrics8380
      @jordanfabrics8380  4 роки тому

      The pattern was designed by Larene Smith and she named it Tea Time in Bali because she made her quilt all in batiks. I have made the quilt 6 or 7 times now, and (hopefully) have made all the mistakes - thus all the cautions in the video! The tubes will end up twisted because the strips are being stretched while being sewn (yes, I have had this happen). Try pinning each strip on in a few places before stitching. The pre-cut items with the pinked edges do create a lot of dust and lint and I just ignore it now and vacuum afterwards.

    • @colorcrazy2944
      @colorcrazy2944 4 роки тому

      @@jordanfabrics8380 Thank you for the reply. That explains the Bali part but I wonder what her connection is to tea. It does not matter, it is a really fun pattern and gives a great excuse for the cute thumbnail. :D
      Thank you for the suggestion for pinning, I will try that next time. I wonder if I could try vacuuming the roll carefully before I open it.... ;D I might try to get some of the loose bits off over a trash can first. One more reason to love Matt's cuts!

However, with Covid, I haven't started sewing any of them, working on masks for family, friends and neighbors instead. If you haven't tried this pattern yet, do so! Love this quilt but I don’t have a tube ruler big enough (mine only goes to 6.5 🤦🏼‍♀️). You mention that there’s another way to cut without the ruler you have. How would that be done? (Yep, I’m new at this quilting lark!). Thanks! And thanks for the videos. They’re so helpful.

    Dear Donna, thanks for such a great idea to make such a nice quilt!
    Your eyes, when you tell the instruktions, are shining like the nice colours, you've taken in the quilt.
    It's a lot of fun to watch your tutorials. Thanks for this great moments!

    Hello. I just did my first set of 5 sewn in a tube... I put the ruler on the "7", but the point didn't reach the top (off by 1/4"). I think maybe I was too scant on my 1/4" seams (good to find this out before I sew the entire lot!). What is the size of the cut blocks? Thank you.

    I just noticed that this pattern was designed by Larene Smith. I take quilting classes from her in Orange County, CA. She’s amazing! Small World. 😉

    I Love this pattern and it would work perfect for a bed top quilt with a panel. The panel is 28 1/2 x 36 and the mattress is 54 x 72 (by the way I'm a beginner quilter, have made a tree skirt and Christmas Stockings), so how would I make a quilt with these? Please help.

    Thank you for your tutorials and free patterns, Donna. I have three daughters, each with very different personalities; so many beautiful quilts I'm spoiled for choice I'm afraid but it is such fun trying to decide which quilt to make for each one :-0 Again, thank you to the Jordan family for your generosity of spirit and hard work - it's such a God send at this time. Keep safe and well.

    The green is very pretty but I think personally I would prefer the pink as I think it makes the colors “pop” better! Just my personal opinion! Thanks for all your WONDERFUL videos!

    Currently making this quilt and for some reason my strips aren't wide enough for the 7" line of the strip tube ruler. Only the 6.5" line (which goes from the seam line to the top. No idea what I've done. Sewed 5 2.5" strips, sewn together with 1/4" seam allowance and then sewn into a tube using a 1/4" seam.

    I just saw this video on 02/23/2023. I see it was 2yrs ago. I ❤️ love this pattern, seems realy easy. I wish I would have come across this one before I came across the Jelly Roll Race 3.0 this would be better. But the one I made looks pretty.

    Hi Donna, each time I enter the sweepstakes, I put my info in. It assumes I’m applying to sign up for the mail. Therefore I don’t think I’m signing up. And the pattern wouldn’t download. I love your tips. I love your quilts. I love your free patterns. The quality of your fabrics is elegant. Thank you and Matt for all your hard work.

    Would this work with scraps ? If I have a 21/2 " strip in center and figure out how many verified size strips to get my block size just wondering if it would work.
    Thank you

    I would like wider strips and I think the goal is to have an odd number of strips for this project. (yes ?) So I could go to 3 strips in each tube that are 3.5" each but I'm having trouble visualizing if the end result will be pleasing to the eye or have a pattern that 'works'. I guess I just want fewer colors and have the fabrics I have in mind be more prominent in the quilt. Thoughts please? Thank You!

    Just tried this but my squares are cutting different from yours. I'm having to open the seam on the point for half of them. Using a 1/4in seam and a jelly roll that's 2.5in wide with a 7in triangle cut out. What am I doing wrong?

    Good Morning from sunny and warm Florida! I just love the bright, happy colors of this quilt. It is the perfect quilt to make in these uncertain times. I have a question tho. Do I have to use the Strip Tube ruler or can I use something else instead? Thanks in advance!

I think I've watched the same ones 3-4 times. I just love them. I tired looking for.... I see a white) purple tote you have made. I'm would love seeing how to do that. Can you do that while I'm still here in this world, able to watch it. Thanks you and God bless
