The best thing about Stargate really is encapsulated by the Prometheus. In Stargates long run time every little thing the team discovers ultimately ends up coming back for a payoff. And the Prometheus is a great example of that. The way little bits of tech learn from different varying civilizations that Stargate command has had contact with show up in its description and makeup. These set piece developments and advances carry a real sense of accomplishment for us as the viewer, because we were there when they came into being. In my mind it's the thing that really pushes Stargate from a good science fiction to a great science fiction
I love how the show tries to follow the logic of what we would do with such tecnology. Give humans a transporter, something other species don't really consider a weapon, and you can be damn sure they will transport a nuke straight into the generator of that enemy ship, because that is what we would do.
i agree, seeing humanity advance and learn new things is in many ways analogous to what many wish too see in real life with NASA and SpaceX. Thats really what i liked about Stargate. Instead of seeing a bright future like we see in Star Trek, we get to see Earth as it is today with all its problems and also all the problems of the galaxy which could also be an analogy to problems on Earth. In the show we see people over come these problems often time sacrificing themselves for people they dont even know or who may not even want their help. The 3d model was scaled up to 519 m because the size of 195 meters wouldn't work with the design they went for. This is essentially the size of a Zumwalt-class DD, so let's compare to that. 1) A Zumwalt has one helicopter and a few UAVs. The Prometheus has 8 X302 fighters. Keep in mind that an X302 is much bigger than a contemporary F/A-18 - and certainly much bigger than a helicopter. , and the Prometheus has a hangar strapped to each side. Also... look at how small those hangars are compared to the ship. 2) The Prometheus is a battlecruiser. While a Zumwalt has 2 gun mounts where proposed railguns were to be installed (currently taken by 155mm guns), the Prometheus has 24. It's primary weapons (though altered several times) are an arsenal of nukes that would put a typhoon class sub to shame. 3) It carries far more armor and has a shield. 4) Also... this being the first Earth ship spouting all sorts of exotic technologies, it also wouldn't really make sense that they could miniaturize that to fit into something the size of a cruiser or large destroyer.... and still have room left over for two hangars. 5) It _does_ make sense that they wouldn't need a large crew. Aliens advanced enough to build something like a hyperdrive can also automate. The bridge facilities were spartan, sure, but they were big enough for what they were intended to do. Better to spread the (small) complement out to where they can't all be killed in one strike. Plus, a smaller bridge avoids the Star Wars problem where all the cool ships have so many weak spots that they are all killed within an hour of arriving at the battlefield. Yeah, that 2 billion dollar price tag we hear quoted doesn't work on any level (not even for a tiny ship with respectively smaller price tag). Surely there was more design work needed to reverse engineer aliens thousands of years more advanced than to design a Zumwalt.
The thing i like about star gate franchise is we don't just go from fighter jets to full blown capital ships in space but is slowly obtained during the entire lifespan of the show. Knowledge on how to build such vessels, gathering of alien technology, help from allies like the Asgard, even the very metal in which there constructed has an entire episode dedicated to mining for this new metal which isn't native to Earth the list goes on and i love the small details and watching humanity grow on the show over time.
One correction: The X-303 had three different hyperdrives throughout its service, not just two. After the original reverse-engineered drive had gone critical and had to be jetisoned over Tegrea, the ship was fitted with a Goa'uld Al'Kesh hyperdrive which could only make short hops. It didn't get the Asgard drive until just before "Endgame".
Its definitely not 195m long. The ship was designed by the asgard to fight hatak vessels. Those vessels were nearly 700m in length. There is also a key feature a lot of fans have missed out when describing the Prometheus and its weapons capability. The reason it was able to take on hataks at all, was not just because of its shields. But the asgard designed its railgun as well. These were not normal human designed rail guns. I would likem them to haveing a plasma tip on the roumd. This would allow the round and its subsequent magnetic field to be able to weaken shields. Normal rail guns would give no bother at all to a hataks shield. But yeah this ship was never ment to look or be 195m. The reason for its reduced crew is simply down to it being designed by beings that created ships that could be operated by 1 person. The trek yards size is derived from the actual fighters it carrys.
I personally go with the bigger size. Because one big reason the ship was made was to combat Goa'uld motherships. Ships which are 700 meters long, 650 meters wide, and 315 meters tall, and they're packing enough firepower to flatten Tokyo. So building the Prometheus to be bigger than a Nimitz does make sense considering the enemy they were fighting.
Nope. The 519 m length is based on the size of the F302. The smaller size is too small to carry any 302s at all. For the 302s to fit through the opening of the original bay, the size of the ship had to be enlarged. Even for the 302s to fit the side bays, the ship had to be enlarged.
Im in the middle of watching SG1 and I laughed when Q showed up, only its throwing me through a loop since he isnt making jokes, Q has never been on screen for more than 5 seconds without making a joke, whats wrong?
If you want another series where he shows up, and does play a Q like character check out MLP:FIM where he plays a character named Discord with simular powers. He shows up in season 2 episode 1 if you want to jump on to that. Apparently while describing the character to the network, the creator said he's like Q from startrek, and someone else in the room replied think we could get him to do the voice? The character was only planned for the 2 episodes but fans loved him so much they wrote him back in a guest role.
Surprisingly enough, the ships are pretty evenly matched. The SG Prometheus has far better shields and a far better FTL drive, but far weaker weapons than the ST Prometheus, while the ST Prometheus has far better weaponry and can separate into three independently operating parts, but has less capable shields and a far slower FTL drive. The SG Prometheus has nukes that are more powerful than the ST Prometheus' photon torpedoes. The ST Prometheus' photons are faster than the SG Prometheus' nukes, in reaching the target. The SG Prometheus has point defense weapons that might help it against the ST Prometheus' photon torpedoes, whereas the ST Prometheus only has its shields to defend against the nukes. The ST Prometheus has directed energy weapons that hit instantly, whereas the SG Prometheus has railguns that need travel time for their projectiles. The SG Prometheus can use its FTL drive to partially remove itself from reality and into hyperspace which, according to Star Trek Online, will give it enhanced resistance to physical damage. (Star trek online has an item, that does almost exactly this, which offers you a defensive boost across the board. That item and ability however has never been shown in the show, afaik.) And then we get to the fighters and shuttles. The SG Prometheus has dedicated fighters, the ST Prometheus has service shuttles (those are not shown on screen afaik, but every ST ship has shuttles, bar none, so I'll assume they use standard Voyager shuttles). The SG Prometheus' fighters have a better FTL than the shuttles, but the shuttles' FTL has a longer range. The SG Prometheus' fighters have slow moving projectile weapons, missiles, and nukes, whereas the ST Prometheus' shuttles have instant hit phasers, faster moving photon torpedoes and shields. The SG Prometheus's fighters are pretty agile, compared to the shuttles, but the shuttles have transporters. However, the shuttle transporters are relatively short ranged and aren't really able to lock on to agile targets. The SG Prometheus' fighters can use their FTL drives to execute short jumps to bypass enemy shields, something I don't believe the shuttles are capable of doing, but the shuttles are overall more durable. And last, but not least, the SG Prometheus can land, whereas the ST Prometheus cannot.
Yes! More Stargate! After covering as much as possible from Stargate, try a bit of anime sci-fi. Start with Space Battleship Yamato, a.k.a. Star Blazers.
Im surprised you didnt lose a word over the hyperdrive problems they had, trying to use a Naquadria based Hyperdrive for a while, with a capacitor buffer to deal with the instability....which still needed to be ejected because it overloaded (because of course it did), and how they then limped around with the Hyperdrive from a much smaller Al'kesh for a while, having to hop in small jumps to give the drive a chance to cool down. It was actually nice to watch the teething problems of an emerging technology rather than to just be plopped into a ship where all the technology was tried and tested like Star Trek.
@@mbogucki1 A little, but at least they always had an engine that worked as it was meant to. Transporters were still new, but they probably still had the fewest malfunctions on that than any other Trek series, too.
hello there. As someone who modelled the 303 (for my 3D printing project) i can safely assure you that the ship cannot be 195m long no matter what the dvd magazines say. Even if that number is much more realistic in terms what we can actually build, the ship in the series was vastly larger. And how can i say it with such a conviction? It is easy, just take the top view of the ship, scale it to be 195 meter long and then measure the rest. you will find out that if you do that, the main hangar of the ship is only 12 meters wide. That is kinda problem considering the 302 is 14 meters wide...not to mention that the main body of the ship would be only 25 meters wide....that doesnt leave too much space for the 302s anyway....
Simmons wasn't infested with a Goa'uld. At least not at first. They had also released Adrian Conrad, the guy that had himself implanted with a Goa'uld in order to cure him of some illness and was intending to have it extracted once he was cured which didn't work out. It always made no sense to me that by this episode Conrad hadn't been shipped to the Tok'ra and de-Goa'ulded, it was crazy to keep something this dangerous around not to mention completely inhumane to keep the host like this when there was a fairly simply solution.
A bit of a wrong sequence! Prometheus first. The second ship is BC-304 Odyssey SG-1. Then BC-304 Daedalus SGA. Then BC-304 Apolon SGA. And Then General Hamond SGA SGU.
Daedalus came before Odyssey. SG1 was still using Prometheus in season 9 before Odyssey debuted after the events of Ethon, while Daedalus was off in Pegasus. Daedalus was first referenced in Moebius in Season 8 of SG1.
There are a couple of really neat size comparison charts out there for a whole slew of spacecrafts from various works of science fiction, although not entirely complete, but pretty damn close. A lot of it is clearly conjecture.
There's a running joke in my circle of friends that they're waiting for me to build a model of the Daedelus out of LEGO's.....I'm waiting for the funds to try.
The Prometheus being larger than an Aircraft carrier makes sense. As for the crew size that is explained by the fact that the automation and far more advanced technology simply doesn't require as many people. Aircraft carriers have as many people as they do because of the large amount of fighters and all the extra people needed for just one of those. Plus if you went with the supposed size of the ship the F-302 would never fit inside. The model is scaled correctly for it size of 500+ meters.
Thor flew something even bigger on his own. Also, if I’m going up against things that shoot bolts of flaming death without shields, I’m going to want as much armor on my ship as possible. So the larger ship isn’t all that out of the realm of possibility
I know that the executive producer has said that a continuation of Stargate is being worked on by him and MGM and even a first episode script has been written. He has acknowledged this as recently as March. So I am wondering how many battleships stargate command has created up to now. It would be interesting if the stargate was made public and we now have shipyards building these. We should also have access to the Asguard database so maybe we have built defensive satellites as well?

Knowledge on how to build such vessels, gathering of alien technology, help from allies like the Asgard, even the very metal in which there constructed has an entire episode dedicated to mining for this new metal which isn't native to Earth the list goes on and i love the small details and watching humanity grow on the show over time.
I love the Daedalus! And the Asgard fleet, too. The Biliskner class when it is first introduced is pure badassery from the little dudes!
I'm so happy you guys are doing stargate
Videos Now
We need more stargate content!!!
Scaling is often inconsistent, or else ships like the Defiant would look like insects next to other ships.
To be fair though, the 304s scaling is consistent, the Prometheus though is all over the place.
Finally, more Stargate.
I'm here for Stargate content, period. Undomesticated equines could not dissuade me from desiring said content!
Miss those shows. Good times.
Yea Prometheus was more of a first draft suto prototype. You know you got work out thing at scale at some point.
Freaking awesome Ben, loving the Stargate Love
x304 is one of my favorrte ship designs in scify. So please do it!
Yes. More Stargate!!!
yes, please, more Stargate
Nice to see you crediting Trekyards
oh man this was released on my birthday fave show!
Thanks
"british ben"
I will forever hate that you didnt call yourself Big Ben
Spot on, Trekyards actually does an in-depth analysis. Generations Filmes just goes to a stargate fandom site filled with inaccuracies.
We want to see the Daedalus-class video!! Love those ships, and all of their features.
Great job. Keep it up.
Would love to see a video on the Daedalus class. The Daedalus itself has a great history.
0:12 got me laughing, same with the atlantis gate/pool
Yup want to see it
Don't stop doing stargate!!!
More Stargate anything videos please!
More Stargate please!!!!
stargate is making a come back! yes! more pls!
Daedalus please, and make sure there's a part where you're playing the Team America theme again. :)
More Stargate stuff please!
More Stargate, please!
Here's an idea for a vid:
A mock battle between the Prometheus from SG1 vs.the Prometheus from Star Trek.
That item and ability however has never been shown in the show, afaik.)
And then we get to the fighters and shuttles.
That sublight speed sounds super high, over half the speed of light sounds OP lol
Love the Prometheus joke.
Yes! More Stargate! After covering as much as possible from Stargate, try a bit of anime sci-fi. Start with Space Battleship Yamato, a.k.a. Star Blazers.
Oh, yes or maybe some lost Universe.
Is there more Stargatecontent on the horizont? I would really love you to dive in some Asgard ships.
Great shows!
Currently on the fifth or sixth time watching SG1 all the way through. Just got to the episode where the tv crew hijack the Prometheus. Fun times.
Enterprise had teething issues.
@@mbogucki1 A little, but at least they always had an engine that worked as it was meant to. Transporters were still new, but they probably still had the fewest malfunctions on that than any other Trek series, too.
Prometheus getting some love
Yes please British Ben, Daedalus Class breakdown for all, Thank you.
hello there.
There's a running joke in my circle of friends that they're waiting for me to build a model of the Daedelus out of LEGO's.....I'm waiting for the funds to try.
i love to see a video on the Deadalus class from star gate
Very cool video.
I watched this video multiple times
1.3k likes so we're getting that Daedalus video 😊 This video got me all nostalgic, I may have to rewatch SG1 now, it's been a few years
Loving the love for stargate lol
I liked the dedalous as a type - it looked like it was really a step up to prometheus in terms of ship design skills.
Indeed.
yes please for new vids!!!!!
more please!!!!
I can’t wait for Daedalus video
Can you make a long video on the Daedalus class? Like 20 or 30 minutes.
Daedelus next please sir!
WOOOOOOOT STARGATE!!! THANKS!!!
