Thanks to corporate marketing initiatives in the early 20th century, pink is entrenched in the minds of many Americans as being a distinctly feminine color but there is a way for men to wear it. So how can they do it successfully?
The fact is pink is a supremely versatile color and we believe it should receive much more play in the typical man's wardrobe than it gets currently.
How you can incorporate pink into your wardrobe starting with when to wear it.
While pink may first be associated with the brighter color palettes of spring and summer, it can actually be worn at any time so long as you're choosing a complementary shade of pink both for the season and for your own complexion.
Which tone of pink would suit you best then?
Well, according to science, pink is actually a bit of an interesting color as it doesn't really exist in the spectrum of visible light. After all, if you observe a rainbow or light refracted through a prism, you won't find any pink there. Rather, pink occupies that blank space in between red and violet in the spectrum of light that humans can't see, like infrared and ultraviolet, so our eyes basically invent the colour of pink to fill in that gap. Meanwhile, in terms of pigment or colors in the physical world, pink is created by mixing red and white together. Of course, with that said, it can be a darker or lighter shade of pink and have undertones more of yellow or
    more of blue.
Ultimately though, which pink to choose does depend somewhat on your complexion; if you have darker skin, a wide array of Pinks will be available to you and look good. If you have a lighter complexion, pink will look better if you do have a bit of a tan but this shouldn't be a problem in the warmer months when pink is most commonly worn. And if you're particularly fair-skinned, brighter hues of pink may bring out some blotches in your face but don't be afraid because pastel pink can be worn by almost anyone. In the broad strokes then, subtle and pastel pinks will be complementary to almost any skin tone whereas brighter and more abrasive pinks should be worn more carefully.
Keep in mind also that if you're wearing multiple garments in pink, they may be of subtly different shades. For example, you might not want to pair a pink that's more of a salmon shade with a pink that's more of a magenta shade because they have different undertones of color they might not necessarily harmonize well. Just make sure that all of your accessories and different elements of your outfit are in harmony and you'll be good to go.
In the transitional periods between seasons such as between winter and spring or between summer and fall, pink goes well with darker red shades like burgundy and maroon.
Another smart pairing would be pink and brown; for example, a pastel pink shirt paired with a brown linen jacket would be a good choice for the summer months. Meanwhile, a bolder pairing that is somewhat underutilized in menswear is putting pink and green together because these two colors are opposite from one another on the color wheel. They provide maximum contrast which means if you are pairing them together subtly and in harmony, they're going to look especially smart.
Lastly here, pink and white can be a winning combination after all as we stated before pink is made from red and white so bringing out that white undertone in your outfit will look good for summer.

I think pink is such an underrated color. My favorite part about spring and summer is wearing my pink shirt and accessories to work with my suits. Also, I can't wait to get that knit magenta (pink) tie and pink socks (I've been eyeing them for a while).

Interesting presentation. I remember that pink was really popular in menswear in the 80s to early 90s. I had a pink sweater I bought at the Gap and wore regularly my senior year of college, which was 1987l After that and through the early 90s, I always had at least one pink button down collar shirt in my rotation. As a shirt color, it can pretty much substitute for white, especially with dark blue or gray. For some reason, pink dress shirts got less popular in the late 90s.
One thing I learned today was pairing pink with green. I don't think I ever tried that.

Pink is one of my favorite colors for dress shirts. I find it very versatile and gives a nice vibrant 'pop' to my outfits. I love it combined with blue jackets or blazers. Makes blue really stand out, but it goes well with just about anything.I go more for a pastel or light pink, and my pink/white stripe is one of my favorite dress shirts.I pair it with my white waistcoat and tan linen suit with my panama hat for a great summer and spring look!

Always a pleasure to see either Mr. Schneider or you elaborate some style topic in an un-exited, serious but not OVERLY serious way - love it!
As to pink I do have significant problems with it, but not for any infantile notion of affirming my masculinity (if this where the case I would only wear black suits with white shirts ;) ). It's the simple reason that I cant tell any of the softer red shades from any of the softer green shades - red-green colour blindness - hooray! Also keeps from truly utilizing a lot of greens in my wardrobe except the stronger ones. And pink is... well... distinct shade of green...no red... nah it's green... aww, now the light changed it's red again ;).
I tend to stick to a spectrum of blues, greys, browns and the like.
Anyway - love your videos, even if the colours are weirdly all green in this on about pink ;).
    Best regards
    Raoul G. Kunz

I'm from the UK and while pink shirts aren't uncommon, they are usually pale or muted or closer to a light burgandy, other shades are rarer and in casual wear it is rare in more than a trim or a print. Although I will even wear hot pink with black casually as it is bright and contrasts well, as an alternative to other bright colours like yellows or plain reds, it is great!

Pink was seen as an aggressive color for a long time and therefore pink would be worn by boys cause it had a relation to red. Really interesting stuff there as vile was seen as a passive color and therefore the feminine.

For centuries, red -- the color of blood -- was the manly color. Pink, as the "small red", was the right color for the clothing of boys. Many renaissance paintings show the infant Jesus dressed in pink. (Girls wore light blue). The first tricots for the football tream Juventus Turin were colored pink.
Right into the last century, the norm was blue for girls, pink for boys. In 1918, Ladies Home Journal wrote that "pink as a decisive color is more masculine and therefore better suited for boys, while delicate blue makes girls look even prettier".

All good information, Martin. Red (and therefore pink) was associated with Mars, the Roman god of war--hence the red planet in our solar system bearing that name, also. Meanwhile, blue was commonly associated with the Virgin Mary. Many of these bits of trivia were in early drafts of the script, but we try to be concise. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Our friends at Grammarist have the following to say (edited for clarity):
"'In the pink' is an English idiom that means to be at the peak of health...dating back to the 1500s, when the word pink did not refer to a color. At that time, the word 'pink' referred to a certain type of flower called dianthus, called 'pinks' in the English vernacular (from earlier Danish). These flowers were considered the pinnacle of floral design, and so the word 'pink' came to mean anything that was the pinnacle of excellence...The word 'pink' to refer to a color was not used until the end of the 1700s, and not in general use until the 1800s."

Didn’t Raphael say pink is an overrated colour? 🤔
I have a fair complexion so I prefer to wear pastel pink shirts. A subtle pink/white check or Prince of Wales shirt allows you to experiment with pink confidently as it’s a quite a blank canvas rather than the centrepiece of your outfit.
Lavender is also an underrated shirt colour. A more ‘masculine’ pink (if you’re worried about that); it looks great with a navy suit.

According to history, color in the West used to be neutral and should really have stayed that way. After that era ended, pink at one point in time became the boy color and blue the girl color. After awhile, the two colors got switched. Now pink is associated with feminine and blue with masculinity. However, currently around the world, most men and boys wear pink and it's okay. Pink can be associated with masculinity because it resembles a faded red that is much bolder. And can represent power. Research it yourself and you'll find I am speaking truth. Really, color is just color. Some just need to get over it. Doesn't matter what gender wears it.

While I don't look down on it, personally I've found it unsuitable to my complexion and style. It's too loud, no matter how cotton candy light or strawberry dark it is.

Yep. Pink. Confident/Real men can wear pink. If women can wear black, blue and brown, then why can't men wear pink, yellow and purple? Yep. I have a light/pastel pink+white striped pocket square. Want to get a pink button-up shirt some day.

Every time I see a man or a boy wear pink, I know now that they're going old school after learning the history of the color.

This video is a bit contradictive.
In your video ’13 Most Over and Underrated Dress Shirts for Men’ you mention pink shirts as the first overrated dress shirt, if the purpose is to get attention.
In your defence. You do talk more about pink in using it for accessories in this video though.

Very perceptive, Svein! Yes, you found the crucial difference in our message here: if a man's intent is simply to gain attention, doing so via the use of a pink shirt would be less creative than he might think, as pink shirts aren't so rare or unusual after all! But as a staple color no more unique than light blue or other pastels, pink certainly has its place. Thanks for watching and commenting!

He's got that 30's mafia mobster crazy cold hitman look. Seems like he could execute someone in the meantime without a blink of an eye and then go back on about the color pink...

Pink is most European's skin color, so it's a natural fit.

I have to disagree, sorry. Pink together with orange tend to make you look pale and somewhat a little ill if you have a light complexion, usually people of colour (from Africa to the Middle East) look great in it. Now again they can wear anything they like ☺
