    Benzaldehyde is the smell. It should smell poisononous, because it's a smell associated with cyanide, but because fruit started making it, we humans like the smell now.
    Benzaldehyde is also called 'almond oil'. It smells like artificial cherry flavoring.

    That smell is either the jungle or the millipedes ultimate defense, *Cyanide* you see, some millipede species can produce cyanide that smells kind of like cherries or other fruit, the cyanide can or can’t be harmful to you depending on the species we are dealing with.

      I was more wondering maybe if it's trying to defend against carnivorous type "predators" emitting a sweet smell will deter it from eating it??? That was my random assumption, I may be wrong though

    • @shmooters5599
      @shmooters5599 6 місяців тому +3

      @@melwinder1I would assume that it’s not necessarily the “sweetness” of the smell that deters them, but what it represents. As other comments have brought up, it has to do with a chemical tht is found in both cyanide as well as some fruits. Humans eat fruits and so with time we’ve learned to associate it as a good rather than a bad smell. Carnivores most likely will smell it and get warning signals similar to us smelling rotten food, as it will be more associated with cyanide which is incredibly dangerous for them.

    That armored millipede was so awesome. Really nice seeing how friendly it is. That was cool that it gave a very sweet odor smell. I never seen an insect that could give good orders. I wish I could have real experience with the small. I may not be correct for the reason of this type of body order, but my big guess is there could be certain predators that may not like his odor.
    That trilobite beetle was pretty cool too. I never seen a beetle with this kind of body shape before. I really loved the colors of it. That red was what brought it out. I can't believe how tiny its head is. The face was really cute looking. I can easily see its really cute eyes. I even saw its mouth pretty good. I really love how safe and friendly it is.

    It's awesome that there are still some creatures that reminds us of the times of the dinosaurs. When u got that millipede it reminded me that certain lemurs catch millipedes and it looks like they get intoxicated from the millipede. Could you ever maybe do a video on that?

    Awesome video on an amazing bug I never knew existed! I could imagine that being like 10 it's size back in the dinosaur age.
