Benzaldehyde is the smell. It should smell poisononous, because it's a smell associated with cyanide, but because fruit started making it, we humans like the smell now. Benzaldehyde is also called 'almond oil'. It smells like artificial cherry flavoring.
Hey, sorry if this is a little off topic, but how can you still feel pain? Like do you not get used to stings after a while? Thanks and stay safe (-ish😂) 👍
They keep the insect in their backpack 🎒 and then take it out for the camera. It's just all acting. Coyote is a great actor. He really does capture kids' and adults' attention to keep us watching
5:29 That smell is either the jungle or the millipedes ultimate defense, *Cyanide* you see, some millipede species can produce cyanide that smells kind of like cherries or other fruit, the cyanide can or can’t be harmful to you depending on the species we are dealing with.
I was more wondering maybe if it's trying to defend against carnivorous type "predators" emitting a sweet smell will deter it from eating it??? That was my random assumption, I may be wrong though
@@melwinder1I would assume that it’s not necessarily the “sweetness” of the smell that deters them, but what it represents. As other comments have brought up, it has to do with a chemical tht is found in both cyanide as well as some fruits. Humans eat fruits and so with time we’ve learned to associate it as a good rather than a bad smell. Carnivores most likely will smell it and get warning signals similar to us smelling rotten food, as it will be more associated with cyanide which is incredibly dangerous for them.
I actually accidentally came across a trilobite beetle and the armored millipede few years back in Kuantan, Malaysia. Didn't know what it was, as it look so alien-ny, and the millipede indeed smell kinda sweet when im poking it
Even if beetles didn't exist in the Carboniferous, it really looks like something that would come out of that era. what a spectacular bug you guys found
EARLY! Watching these videos makes me so happy. I've been watchingever since i was a kid. Im suffering from severe depression and have been SA'd, and i love nature, so just seeing these make me super duper happy and make me smile. Learning about these different types of creatures fascinates me.
Hope you're doing okay, wherever you are in the world. I'd highly suggest starting small trips to explore near wherever you live if it's safe! Even if it's a park bench to start! Wishing you well ❤
so glad you’re able to enjoy the small things and the beauty of nature after something so awful happened to you. i’m so sorry that happened to you and i wish the best for you in the future. it’s kind of inspiring to see a comment from someone who went through something that awful but is still truckin and finding things to enjoy, made me feel a little better about things i’ve been through and knowing i can get past it.
Mark, that beetle was quite scary looking until it was crawling around on your hand and it could see its tiny head and even tinier eyes. She is a very strange beetle and I could see her as a character on Star Wars…lol. I love your enthusiasm when you find different animals and tell us about them! I am glad it is not just all about being stung. Thank you for an amazing video and take care!!! 😄💙🐬🐍🐊🫶🏼
I’m so glad that you’re willing to go after creatures that are possibly unknown or not the most recognizable or the most trendy cuz I found this creature absolutely fascinating and I never would’ve known about it if you didn’t make this video.

Millipedes feel like Velcro walking across your skin.. I was in Borneo in March 2023 seen a lot of crazy creatures while there.. stayed in the jungle for 15 days at Sukau Rainforest Lodge on the Kinabatangan river.. I was on an expedition with Chester Zoo totally amazing experience, absolutely love Borneo..
05:48. This "Cherry" Milli-pede possibly has the SEEDs in its Belly, ripened, they try to send-off cherry's scent inviting the birds to eat them... spreading seeds far & wide.!?!
I always get so excited when a brand new Brave Wilderness video drops. Especially the ones that don’t feature stings and bites. Those videos are fun but stress me out.
Fact about millipedes: most of all millipedes are not true millipedes. In Western Australia (Goldfields-Esperance Region) We recently discovered (2020) the first true millipede with over 1000 legs (located 200 feet under the surface) I’m hoping that this information will help many in the future! Ps! This information also applies to Centipedes!
since yall are looking for cool animals now instead of dangerous ones heres a list i made duckbilled tree frog, hairy frog, anableps, mata mata, tuatara, draco lizard, phrynocephalus mystaceus, Calmanesia sp, thai spiky isopod, pangolin, and the hoatzin chances are you’ve probably showcased a lot of these but probably not all. just a few ideas, thank you for the video
You get the audience you build up. Brave wilderness once used to be a very educative channel with in depth biology explaination. Some video we didn't even see an animalbecause coyote couldn't find one and had to teach us about their natural habitat instead. Then the team realized how much they could milk youtube algorithm by doing title more and more clickbait and biologically innacurate or missleading (like this one) and spam the bite / hurt / sting meta. It's been heartbreaking to watch this downfall of quality. Even mark had to take bites and stung to keep the clicktrain going. I haven't yet unsubscribed but this channel has traded its passion for profit and brainless entertainment
Omg you look so familiar! Like from a noodle company like a place called noodles and company? You just look like really familiar you had like two other guys with you?
I doubt I’ll get a response, Any information on the film you guys announced working on regarding the Galápagos Islands? I’ve always been so intrigued by that region of the planet (and Madagascar) and was so enlightened when I saw the video speaking about you guys (a channel I love) working on such a product! Please any info would be greatly appreciated.
Why exactly do you do these vids? I hope its for educational purposes because that cant be healthy this had to put you in some kind of dangerous situations i pray for your wellbeing man

Hi
Early
Brave wilderness isn’t just about getting stung, it’s sad that people don’t appreciate these videos as much.
Agreed. The unfortunate fact is that most people value entertainment over education.
Because they aren’t what they use to be, especially since Cyote is no longer in them
But many people still appreciate these videos too and that’s all what matters
The people who only watch these for the stings and bites, are the equivalent of people who only pick up a book to look at the pictures.
It's also about getting pooped on by weird critters hahahahha
Mom finds a spider : eww kill it
Mark picks it up
1:33 i love how he gets pooped on then just smells it 😂

I don’t know do you
What a fantastic creature. I just don't understand how people can be disgusted by bugs. They are beautiful!
Im only disgusted by bugs that I dont if its venomous or not. Once I know its not, I'll pick it up with my hand
Well bro I was gonna go eat after this video but not after Marks worm and grub, thanks Mark.
This thing is amazing. Gosh I love nature.

Can you please try getting stung by a fire coral? My friend just got atung today and i want to see what you think of the sting.

yo are you still in malaysia? I thought you guys would never visit haha
He looks cool, that red is awesome
Hi
monsterverse video is coming?
That was UNIQUE looking beetle. Looks like a Trilobite due to her armor plating. That's awesome seeing that for the first time.
Bro imagine being some random millipede, chilling, eating leaves, and one day being picked up and touched by some hairless ape
Apes are more intelligent than humans humans are some of the most unintelligent people on earth depending on who it is
so it starts musking to make itself smell like delicious fruits and pastries.
Imagine thinking that all animals know what apes are...

Cherry pits do contain cyanide if I am not mistaken, so it makes sense.
