Thankfully, Ubisoft have clarified the game will NOT need a constant online connection. Now... how about those battle passes??
well... for me, it's not about the connection or bp...Sad but that's how the world is now.
Sad to say it, but I'm unimpressed by AC Shadows. Even its name sounds lame. I doubt I'll buy this one. Also, why no Japanese male protagonist alongside the female? As a gay man, I've had to sit there as ubisoft made my entire demographics playable character options "none canon" in two games in a row. It doesn't sit easy with me, seeing Asian men discriminated like my demographic has been.
@@chrismoore5333as a black man, why are you so against yasuke being used as a protag? Why do you dislike Japanese women? Sounds like you have some issues
@@goby1764 I didn't say either of those things. Your offended because you think black is always better. That's your problem not mine.
My boyfriend is black for the record. But I'm not blind to the truth that the people working with the team behind AC Shadows have said before Asian men are apparently "white adjacent" which is why they don't want a Japanese guy as a protagonist. Similarly all gay/bisexual male protagonists have been made none canon, with the exception of Jacob, who had his sexuality made more subtle, and he had to share a game with bland old evie. He is the first to represent a minority group, in a game written by a gay man. Evie is the second and one of many female protagonists who are all canon. Do you have a dislike for Japanese guys or gay/bisexual guys as protagonists? That's what it looks like to me.
@@chrismoore5333 Yes… Asian male protagonists are rare in series or films unlike Asian women and for once there can be an Asian male in a big license, we oust him.
I like Yasuke but for once, if I can get an Asian guy, I will be happy 😅
Of course, there is Rise of the Ronin, Tsushima and many other games. But I've been waiting for an AC which takes place in Japan for so long...
If a next AC set in Africa, I don't think my dev gonna risk to put an Asian guy to be the main character... If there is one during the set of the story.

Ubisoft are the least trustworthy company, let alone the fact they discriminate against Asian men and gay/bisexual men in these games.
(All gay/bisexual male protagonists have been made none canon, apart from one who was forced to share their game with another character, and now we don't get an Asian guy alongside the girl in the new game.)

My friend. Let me help you here. Go buy Sekiro. Go buy Ghosts of Tsushima. Play them. Stop your preorder immediately. Apologize to yourself. Reflect on your mistakes. This is Ubisoft we are talking about.
I am torn about Yasuke in the sense that I don't mind him being playable, that's a cool idea and he fits the time period, BUT I am not as much a fan of the idea of him being changed quite as drastically to presumably fit a less tricky slave to hero story. BUT equally I am aware of the fact that this is a universe where a lot of crazy supernatural stuff happens alongside the more faithful historic content, so maybe we can change him a bit.
I would honestly love to see an English Civil War Assassins Creed game in the 1640's where you can work with both the Parliamentarians and the Royalists as an Assassin or Templar.
Even Assassin's Creed's historical content is greatly exaggerated. Its fine
Ubi has been taken creative liberty since the very first game. If people wanna play something more historically accurate with less mystical stuff they can play ghost of tsushima
He would he side npc as his actual position then this
1. Hyped Yasuke is the samurai option. His story honestly is fascinating.
2. Instead of English civil war, 1980s - modern day United States. It’s been far past time.
Yasuke was given stripen, does this make him a samurai, yes/no, because you are dealing with Oda who used more of a commoner enlistment system, there are other non noble character that were given the same "stripen" effect as Yasuke.
There is no archeological or historical evidence Yasuke fought in battle nor receive martial art training, there is plenty of romanticized story of Yasuke the famous black character, but as such following goes, are not accurate portrayed in many cases, similar story that is famous is China Romance of the three kingdom.
You can think of him as a parade ornament for Oda, a rare black person in Japan that you rarely get to see, (noted that there were other Africans amongst Yasuke, however they would mostly be close to Portuguese influenced territories, which would probably been the location Yasuke would have left to.
I mean we got a Japanese set Assassins Creed already. It’s called Ghost of Tsushima.
💯
And it's probably way better since it's not made by Ubisoft

game with up to date graphics
With Ubisoft being Ubisoft, it's a pass from me. The idea of AC in Japan was exciting about 10 years ago before they milked the franchise to death, then their stances on game ownership and preservation and THEN also how their games just feel stuck in a formula and they're not engaging to play, just feels like been there, done that, last ones i played were Farcry 5 which I conpleted and it felt underwhelming and The Crew 2 (Since it was on PSN Plus) which I didnt play too long. Saw footage of all the AC games in between, nothing that made me go "Yeah, I wanna play this".
Then the whole "Oh we're putting a black samurai based on Yasuke", at this point it just feels deliberate to do something like this just because it brings attention, regardless of positive or negative.
I'd rather just play Ghost of Tsushima all over again. They had their own twist to the open world which doesn't feel like such a slog to complete and phenomenal presentation... Or keep hoping Tenchu gets revived.
“Former fans”… we’re not fans anymore.
Two big red flags with making Yasuke a main character.
1. We have never had a historical figure or "anyone from history" as a main character in any Assassins Creed games. They are always the side characters you interact with. The main characters are original characters to their stories.
2. The main characters have always been from their setting, region, and culture. They are from the area. And if there are two main characters they BOTH are, not just one.
They broke both traditions in one game and quite frankly it is a middle finger to Japan. If you wanted a historical figure why not pick someone actually Japanese........like Oda? And why in the world have one of the main characters not be from the region when we finally hit Japan? The game we have wanted for years.
👆🤝👏👏👏
Look up Kim belair. Then this new game will make sense.
Its stupid right? If we want to talk about inclusivity, why pushed aside the asian? Are we not worthy of full asian AC game like other non Asian nations? Well, i know we have the AC China but its not the big budget main series.
For no.1 i believe its for a safeguard from a backlash regarding the black character. They could fallback to historical fact that Yasuke in fact is in Japan at the time.
No.2 wont fly this time...people will know that they force diversity in the game.
1. assasins creed has broke traditions may of times before so now complaining about tradition is a bit odd
2. the main characters have always been from the region? then why did we play as white men in the carribbean? or why did we play as a half white man in usa?
I'm glad you guys know it can be way better from nothing more than a CGI trailer.
This generation is so fucked bro. It really is
They have a Japanese setting & refuse to use a Male Asian protagonist out of the hundreds of figures of that time.
Internet scholars saying “But Yasuke was a Samurai” were educated from Hollywood. He was a retainer w no significance other than to be a trophy.

Ok, I can tell you something, Yasuke is fine for me and he's kinda cool, at least he's a real historical person, but what's not fine are the hypocrites! Why is Chris Redfield called a racist in Resident Evil 5 because he's a white man in Africa who fights zombies, but Yasuke, a black man who massacres Asian men, is completely legitimate? What kind of stupid ideology is this?
10 years ago I'd have been interested. In 2024 I know what to expect of Assassin's Creed, which is basically the last Assassin's Creed mechanically with a fresh coat of paint and a new setting. Ubisoft can try to convince me I'm wrong but there's zero chance I'm buying this before it gets heavily discounted and probably not even then because I still think that that Animus stuff needs to go. It's f*** stupid.
Same with cod. It’s just the same game
Big fucking yawn. The fact that people still get excited for this series is baffling. It's Ubisoft.

@@nightfox8538 I’ve played assassins creed since I was a young boy, it’s better than any other game
@LostAndFound033 Well, at least you're not biased.
@@LostAndFound033 So have I, and let me tell you that it's pretty hard to see the series decline like this
One of the most annoying things I have seen UA-camrs say about AC Shadows is the fact that they are against Yasuke being a Samurai and fighting in the game as he, according to them, was just "slightly better than a slave".
Well, even if you completely ignore the fact that in Sengoku Era Japan people didn't need to be born in the Samurai class to be Samurai (e.g. Toyotomi Hideyoshi) and that Yasuke waa given land, money, weapons and personally appointed a retainer by Oda Nobunaga himself, Assasin's Creed is a game where Humans were genetically engineered into existence by a different humanoid species. That is a billion times more fantastical and unreal than Yasuke fighting but they draw the line at Yasuke being a Samurai.
Absolute hateful people they are.
I'm looking forward to the stealth. I just hope they solve my biggest issue with Mirage.
How many times did you go into an area with an optional objective being do not kill anyone. Then not have an option to pacify or knock out an enemy.
So Syndicate gave both male and female of the same region, Odyssey as well.....but not for Japan. Odd
Yeah, typically, Assassins Creed games play host to the country that they set their games in. This is ticking DEI boxes for that ESG score. Forced behaviour from their shareholders that is filtered down into their games.
Women didn't fight in japanese wars...
@@MartiniBlankontherest Yet they have a Japanese woman in the game possibly serving as a kunoichi, alongside a black samurai .....
Yes this is the only game where you don't play a character that is native to the actual region and culture. To make it worse, originally it was supposed to be about Japanese characters but a "consultancy" came in and demanded it be "diversified"
Wahhhh why are there black people in my games??
Will they have it be where you can 1 switch between characters when you just want a change or 2 would it be where you pick a character to play and through the campaign you’ll stay that character? Doing it the second way would give another reason to replay play one character one playthorough and the other the second play through.
They’ve done the prior with the twins in AC syndicate so maybe that. Having two separate storylines feels like something they’d make a sequel for tbh
I feel like in Odyssey they should have made it to where Cassandra had one story and Alexios had another.
So kassandra being the cannon character would be what we already have. But playing as Alexios. You should have seen how he grew up to become demos. Instead if giving both characters the same exact story.
The problem for me it's not the Black Samurai or anything like that, the problem is Ubisoft plain and simple. A company that want us to feel comfortable not owning our games. Other than this is just bigotry against black people, since the character is historically accurate.
I’m in the same boat. My gripe has been that Ubisoft has been making the exact same games with a fresh coat of paint, trying to ape the Witcher 3’s success. My gripe is that I’m paying 70$ for a game, just to open the menu and they’re asking for more money. The fact that there’s a black MC has no bearing on me not wanting this game
It's really not though... Any more than what is said in the Jesuit's letter is nothing more than pure speculation and sadly Yasuke was most probably nothing more than a display piece for Nobunaga during his 15 months time as a retainer (same level as a page in an european royal court...). It was still a crazy achievement for a black person to reach though, and both him and Nobunaga reportedly enjoyed talking together even though it was most probably through a jesuit translator because of the political and religious concerns at the time.
The biggest argument against him being an actual samurai is his survival after the Honnouji Castle battle that saw the defeat of Oda Nobunaga. As a Samurai in feudal Japan, your lord dying and your defeat in a war meant the death of your honor and most probably your death either via execution or via Seppuku.
Now I don't care about any race of any characters, but revisionism, and especially when it's fueled by politics, is almost always wrong. History already happened and instead of trying to change it we really should be trying to stay true to it to make sure we don't repeat past mistakes instead of hiding these mistakes to serve an agenda, no matter which side of the political debate it might be serving.
The character design does still look good though, and if the game is good and the people who buy it find value in it, then it's all fine, I'm not here to ruin anybody's fun.
@@thibaud1330 where were these paragraphs when Tom cruises the last samurai came out? Or nioh? Or shogun?
@@rd0676 I was like 5 when the last samurai came out, and to my knowledge the main character's historic counterpart actually got the title of Samurai. For Nioh, I did not really play the game half out of similar concerns and half because I am not really interested in souls-like games. And Shogun was never on my watch list as it has in fact the same problems with America trying to insert themselves in another country's culture although it appears to me that it was made in a somewhat more tasteful way.
As I said, the problem I have is not with Yasuke as an actual character, I just Hate revisionism as it is in my opinion a cowardly way to treat parts of history you don't agree with.
You grow way more by learning from mistakes and hiding/ modifying those to serve a modern agenda is detrimental to both global morality and the legitimacy of your cause.
@@thibaud1330 oh so the issue is revisionism. Okay. Let’s take out the parts about pope Alexander vi being a tenplar from the second game. Idk why people are complaining that there should’ve been a Japanese protagonist, lol Naoe is literally right there! If you want to play as a Japanese person she’s right in front of you… just play as her in the game.
Now that we already have Ghost and Ronin, I’m more looking forward to seeing how Hexe turns out. It’s a unique premise and is rumored to blend open world areas with more linear sections in an old and new style hybrid. Could be cool. And I’m interested to see whatever Ubisoft Bordeaux is working on as they really nailed Mirage with the limited time and budget they were given, and could be a great studio to offer old style experiences to help keep the IP from feeling stale again. Also, with Ghost’s more stylized visuals and Ronin’s somewhat lackluster visuals, I am interested to see Ubisoft’s artists take a crack at the time period, as say what you want about Ubi, they tend to nail the look of their worlds from a technical and historical standpoint. And this will be the first mainline full budget AC not to be cross gen. And it’s Ubisoft Quebec who brought us goty nominee Odyssey and the way too underrated Fenyx Immortals Rising.
I’m not so starved for representation that I need to have my black character (I know he’s real) replace a more prominent Japanese figure or male protagonist. Do better and give me a stand-alone game and give Japan what they deserve.
Outrage over the black protagonist aside, I just want to know: is le game good, or is le game bad?
This looks great, but I have mixed feelings. I love the Japanese setting, and I've been waiting years for it. On the other hand, it's an interesting choice of protagonist. I want one set in Kenya but I don't want the protagonist to be Phillipino. I'm not writing this game off, I just think it's super weird for a game to focus on stealth and blending in then have you play a character who literally stands out.
I'm sure the narrative will address this so I don't want to be too critical until I actually play it.
He’s not the assassin…. And assassins don’t run around w
@Janovea I hadn't realized that until they mentioned him being a straight up fighter in the video. I probably should have edited/changed my comment.
I think this is better than what they did in black flag. Atleast we have the option to play as a Japanese character in this
I’m going to side step the obvious growing racial contempt conversation for what should really be the focus… Ubisoft themselves. A battle pass for a single player game.. again… is a worrying sign. Companies have proven they will lie to our faces up until release when they are embargoing reviews or holding off on microtransaction until a week after release. This IS Ubisoft we’re talking about.
I also am suspect of the “you don’t need an online connection” statement. It sounds like you don’t need a connection to out the game physically in your console and make it to the title screen, but due to their licensing debacle there’s no way they aren’t doubling down on their you don’t actually own your game even though you paid for it stance.
And at 8:50 I've given up on your video. The black dude was not made a Samurai over time. I'll be skipping this. It's a shame as I was really looking forward to a JPN based AC.

I like the idea of a spy network building system sure AC brotherhoods had it I forget if the others that came after had it or not so yeah it’s not game changing thing by any means but nice to see a little nod to the older games I wonder if they’ll have settlement building like in vahala? And will memory corridors be back like mirage?
Anyone sleeping on Rise of the Ronin because of some malcontent review of the graphics is sleeping on a genuinely fun experience. It has the taken the Ubisoft formula, refined it and streamlined it, with an incredible combat system.
I'm not totally sold on Shadows, yet. While I have enjoyed the 3 RPGs, I thought Mirage was a bit...flat? I just didn't enjoy it, and I'm a Stealth Enjoyer. I don't know. I hope it is good. Ronin and GoT nailed two different angles for this setting, it'll be interesting to see if there's space for Shadows.
They mentioned micro-transactions in the most Wanted game setting to ever exist in assassin’s creed I’m worried
It’s no surprise. Ubisoft has been doing this for over a decade. All of a sudden people act surprised over the different editions you can buy. They have been doing it for years, and they will continue to do so because people buy them.
Pretty excited for this one. The dual protags sound interesting, switching between ninja and samurai fighting styles could be a lot of fun as long as the combat is done well and doesn’t get stale (my main gripe with Valhalla).
Dual protags was already a thing in Syndicate and it's not nearly as interesting as it sounds; what you get in some variation you lose a lot in characterization
@@ironwolf56 why you’re just a bundle of joy arent you?
The lack of East Asian male representation is a major concern. The last six male leads of AC games have been native/ethnic matches of their lands whether it be Greece, Egypt, Scandinavia, UK, Middle East, or France. When it comes to Japan, an East Asian male lead is sidestepped. That is no coincidence
People camparing this to Ghost of tsushima is the reason we dont have more games like ghost of tsushima. Same setting and concepts with different stories can still be a good game. Microtransactions in single player games just make no sense, it's a good thing Ubisoft doesn't rely on people like me to make their money.

@@Killayeen there are lots of bald black women involed too i bet
@@Killayeen Don't waste your time. These people always give themselves a pass but love to point out what other races do.
@@misterrightuk what the heck are you guys even offended about?
@@mattvaughn8525 don't be like those you are angry with. It's wrong that Asian men aren't represented, end of.
Ill pass, rather play ghost of tsushima or rise of the ronin. Also full game isn't on the disc and despite what ppl say on the internet most games r still on the disc. So that's two reasons why this is a hard pass for me. 1) ubisoft games don't excite me and I rather play other games based in feudal Japan and 2) game isn't on the disc
Scott already pre-ordered LoL 😃😃😃, I love Japanese culture so I can't blame you. But since AAA games rarely launch in a solid state, It comes out in Nov. 15th I'm gonna wait for a X-Mas sale but they do already have my money locked in.
There's no evidence yasuke was a samurai
yet japanese historians say he was.
@@FunnyTummyART Name one.

Need to see enough gameplay to be sure that it plays better than the last few games. Can't put up with the sluggish movement.
We are definitely getting the syndicate switching back and forth play option again where you can switch from samurai to Ninja and vice versa
I'm glad that not only Yasuke is in this but you can use him too. I noticed that the ninja wears blue instead of white. After all, 🎶REAL NINJA WEAR BLUE ;3!🎶 I'm glad the game is a bit smaller. Games should not be too big. They're not going to do the 369 rotary shot? Why the hell not? I understand Chronicles didn't do it because of it 2.5D nature of the game. I hope we get to use guns in this game. We should have the option to play this in Japanese which I will definitely do. If Sucker Punch can do it, why not Ubisoft?
Yasuke was cool in NIOH 2 and Tecmo made them the "Obsidian Samurai" in that game. People be getting salty about Yasuke and forget that Assassin's Creed does deal with Alternate History kind of scenarios with Science Fiction Alien like Objects and bits that go "What If" and fill in the blanks. People treating it like UBISOFT is trying to change history for some reason. I hope that this new AC game turns out great!
@@thebeaphomet9485 I'm not against the creative liberties AC made.
My biggest fear for the game is that is won't be diverse enough from Ghost of Tsushima and Rise of the Ronin. I would end up paying a Premium for a game I basically own 2x over. New narrative, with similar gameplay or stylization. I already call Ghost of Tsushima AC in Japan 😅
Edit: Dammit Josh said what I typed literally 20 seconds later.
Is it on game pass
I don't think it'll be on Gamepass at launch
Takes place during fuedal Japan and instead of a strong Japanese protegonist ... we get a black man. Why? You could have made any other Assassins Creed game with a black man. But nope ... had to be the game that introduces Japan to the AC Universe to introduce a black protagonist.
It just doesn't make any sense. I will play the game and maybe the story might be able to explain it. But ... if it takes place in Japan. Why would the main character NOT be Japanese.
For someone that’s played ghost of Teshima way too much is this definitely. On my watchlist I’ve been looking forward to an assassin’s creed sat in Japan for ages. and I’ve been disappointed with the last assassin’s Creed game that was such a disappointment and it was so short as well. Bring it on I can’t wait for this game
Get excited for AC: Tokenism! We have a Black Samurai AND a girl ninja!
Don't ask questions, Just consume product, and then get excited for next product!
Wild that this is only a problem when it’s a black character and a girl, but not the other way around
@@Luis-rp2lm white ppl are the definition of stealing culture stop it... u love to play hero in stories but we all know u are the oppressor
Hope it has in-game ads for nike or gatorade or some shit. Ya know, something authentic to samurai-era Japan.
Ubisoft has some truly wierdo haters. I have throughly enjoyed the last 4 AC games
14:20 I don't see the comparisons between Ghost of Tsushima and AC: Shadows in terms of GAME PLAY. Ghost of Tsushima very much aims you in the direction of action and one man army over stealth through just how fluid and fun the combat is and how utterly difficult stealth is by comparison. I mean there's literally duels in Ghosts which turn the game into a fighting game, mandatory I might add, for crying out loud. It's NOT a stealth game no matter how much you try to claim other wise. It has stealth options in the same way Hell Divers 2 has stealth options. Yes, they exist and you can choose to play it that way, but that does not in any way make it a stealth game.
I haven't played Rise of the Ronin so I don't know how that game compares in terms of game play, but if what we're being told happens in AC: Shadows game play is accurate then this game is it's own beast separate from Ghosts in that it gives you the option AND has enough proper support to make it so ridiculous in terms of difficulty of execution that you're just better off being a walking death machine than trying to finesse anything like you are in Ghosts. That's just my opinion though, I am clearly wrong because the entire internet seems to disagree with me.
There isn't a comparison, but children like to cry.
We all know they went the route of Yasuke for that Vanguard/Blackrock funds. They could've easily made a Japanese male/female protagonists but instead we get Ninja Girl Boss and DEI Black samurai.
You're a grown ass man crying that a video game character is black
@@goby1764 your a grown man crying because you don't want Asian men to be treated as equal to black men. Bayek was the protagonist of a game in Africa, and he is black. Why not give Japanese men the same respect? Whats wrong with you.
Hmm OK. was Tom cruise and Keanu Reaves being samurais a fault of DEI or sweet baby as well?

Only thing I didn’t like is Yasuke looks older than I would like lol 😂
Idc, I’ll get it Day One.
On paper it sounds like a great game. Unfortunately its going to be published by ubisoft 😂 & it will be compared to ghosts of tushima. I simply do not believe ubisoft can make anything more than an average game.
In other words: Fans dont overreact the game is good despite greedy dei ubisoft. I cant take them for being objective, it always sounds with these videos, that they don't address the obvious reasons that fans are not overjoyed with this reveal
How long until 'next gen' becomes 'current gen'?
It just occurred to me that I never heard a single thing about Mirage since it came out.
I still want an American Civil War AC game. Possibly with more descendants of the Kenways or Connor's grandkids.
RPGal? No one talking about this new world gambulary?
Preordering the game? Definitely part of the problem, rewarding Ubisoft before the product has been delivered
Agreed, this game sounds good on paper but I think this game will make or brake my relationship with Ubisoft
Can you imagine a world where you have to pay to assassinate npcs its only a matter of time😂😂😂
All I'm saying is it better have nympho in it
I want another AC3 homestead.
Instead of creating the usual freshly baked AC protagonist , This is the result when a lead character was taken from a historical figure with unclear biography.. far away from the fictional protagonists of the past Assassin's Creed series. Yasuke Should have been introduce as a DLC character just the way Ubisoft introduced Darius in Odyssey as a very important historical figure in the series.
