I actually prefer this to the Christ ward 12 and PRX. It has much more character because of its quirks and flaws. Would quite like to add one to the collection.

Couldn’t agree more with your review. So faithful to the original. But for the price I’d still want an on the fly adjustment and a way to get SOME MORE LUME. But if I ever saw one with a discount code or used I’d pick one up for the right price! Looks great, flaws and all!

I first got wind of them when they re-issued their 3, 6, 9 Super Antarctic and had my eye on them ever since. I hope to get my hands on one at some point and, with now many retailers in the US, I may get that chance. I bought this watch after watching this and several other reviews, but I’ve since sold the watch after only a few weeks of ownership. It just never wore well on my 18cm (7-inch) wrist. The end link design was a flaw back then, and it’s still a flaw now. On the wrist, one side of the watch would often jut out because the endlinks could never articulate adequately. I feel Nivada should have addressed this before deciding to reissue this watch. As it is, I would never recommend this watch to anyone regardless of wrist size.

Genuine question for everyone here… how do you differentiate between a good micro brand that’s worth considering in their own right vs. a brand that just does look alike or knock off designs?
I suppose the simplified answer as an example would be this: If a watch looks "exactly" like a specific model, copied to a T, except it is re-badged..then walk away However if a micro-brand draws inspiration from certain watches or era's and puts their own flair and individual style, then maybe this micro-brand is worth a second look and deeper investigation My 2 cents worth
Thanks for the review. One point that really resonates is that reissues shouldn’t clean up the quirks or flaws of the original. Think of what the Yema Superman would be without that impractical locking bezel… Probably overly-iterated, sanitized, and homogenized to point of becoming generic. How about a Doxa Sub 300 that ditches the exaggerated tonneau case with the relatively small bezel? Dull as dishwasher. Quirks and even flaws are what make icons of these designs, and make this hobby fascinating. On an unrelated note, this watch shines in the integrated bracelet watch market because of its moderate size and because the bracelet isn’t nearly as wide where it meets the lugs compared to most other IB watches. It’s a subtle thing, but it makes this piece much less of a showcase for wide and heavy metal cuffs, like the PRX.
Came out the same week as the IWC Ingeneer came out, the no date is a very pretty watch and 10% of the price😢 If it wasn't for Christopher Ward it would be the class leader.
I owned this and maybe my main gripe with this watch is the way the lugs attach to the case. There is a lack of articulation in the connecting center link and if you really look at the way the bracelet attached to the case, it actually attached outside the case and sort of hangs off of it. For larger wrists, it's not a problem and looks like the bracelet more perfectly flows into the case. With smaller wrists, however, such as 7" and smaller it doesn't look as good. Let me explain.. The bracelet starts to take a hard turn down off the center link and thus you will see the top end of the bracelet links and thus it looks separate from the case and doesn't flow. It is very apparent at the beginning of your video where you show the side profile of the watch. I really don't like this look as it breaks the visual flow and interupts the integrated bracelet concept. The watch is very flat and thin, too, and thus for smaller wrists, the watch can look like it hangs off or plateaus off the wrist which doesn't look that great all the time, unfortunately. It's a shame as the 37mm integrated bracelet design you'd think it would be so ideal for smaller wrists. However, because of its particular design it is actually better suited for larger wrists 7.25"+, imho. The overall build quality is much more solid and clean than early videos and pics may have suggested. Too bad as I really wanted an AP RO style watch and thought this would be it.. but, the fit was not right for my 7" wrist so I sold it before long, with great reluctance. In my opinion, I think NG defeated the purpose of a 37mm integrated bracelet sports watch by catering a better fit to larger wrists sizes instead of smaller. Idk about you? but I feel larger wrists folks 7.25" and up probably aren't looking for many 37mm watches.
Hi Peter. Nice watch, I really appreciate that ‘Nevada / ‘Squale mid case and crystal profile. I’ve been wearing a few ‘70s Genta inspired watches lately my favourite is the Bulova Royal oak. Insightful review as always, I think Nevada should take a look at some of those highlighted issues and amend them for future production. The Bulova, Ingenuer, and Seiko of old are comfy on a normal wrist and the bracelet drapes beautifully. 👍🏻🦘⚓️
Sorry to say but even the Chinese would have made this endlink-case connection better fitting. Nice watch but the total package seems like it’s got only a short glimpse by Nivada’s QA department

By IX&DAO, called the Engineer, all the reviewers are extremely impressed saying if it was a microbrands it coukd retail in the region of five to six hundred UK sterling. As today is the last day of the 11,/11 sale, it's currently going for £205 before various other discount codes. Would LOVE to see you review of this model. Sounds like a game changer for Chinese made timepieces. As always, loved your vid. Watched it on the big TV as my wife is out. 😅 Thanks Pete.
That IX&DAO is not an homage, but a blatant clone of the IWC Ingenieur (engineer). I might not like the exorbitant price of the IWC, but I like rip-off watch designs by another name even less. There are so many amazing affordable original watches out there, why waste your money on a fake?
Very enjoyable review and it has to some extent justified to me why this release did attract me but also perhaps isn't the watch for me. I can appreciate the flaws they carried over, but I cannot help but find this aspect actually a bit inconsistent. After all, in many respects quite noticeably so, it is now a modern watch and at least based on the examples you included, there are also differences in detail with the original. So, I have to ask myself, why permit yourself as a brand creative licence in some respect and then not attempt to address some of the flaws in that same process? Would that have really detracted from the reissue feel of the watch? Somehow it feels to me, through your eyes, that this is the F77 one would make today in some respects, but not in others, and that inconsistency (and at this price) is quite possibly why it's easy to like but not equally easy to persuade.
My purchase experience with Nivada Grenchen has been a nightmare. Starting with QC issues on my Super Antarctic. Compounded with totally unacceptable customer service.
It's interesting and if it was the price of a PRX I think people would give it a shot but since it costs basically the same as a Christopher Ward 12, and isn't nearly as well finished, and only comes as a 37mm, I can't see this moving too many pieces. Although the 'Smoked Brown' dial might be enough of a draw as that's a very unique dial colour. Had they released this 3 years ago it might've been a bit of a hit.
1st: stop calling the brand “Nivada Grenchen”. The brand is called “Nivada” and they are located in Grenchen/Granges in Switzerland. 2nd:readability indoors is far greater inside compared to outside depending on your dial variant which makes the difference in contrast 3rd: the lume is that weak as they want as much of the watch be like the original as possible giving it the vintage vibe.
37mm case horray, 50mm L2L with bracelet oh no.😢 I think CW did a better job in comparison. I'm going to get my self fired if i keep watching your videos at work.
No Quick adjustment clasp in 2023 is a big no-no. Same with brands like Sinn, Damasko, Archimede - my 200 Euro San Martin has a perfect produced bracelet with quick ajustment.
To say it's not an homage, but a reissue of their own watch from the 70s which was an homage feels like a bit of word salad. It's unoriginal, over-priced, and in my experience that integrates bracelet looks cheap where it connects to the watch.
Could've been a great watch, dial and case look good but bracelet design and the way it connects to the case is not good at all. They could've make changes to the design to make it better, re-releases doesn't have to have the flaws of the old ones had. As others mentioned CW12 and PRX are way better watches in this price range, even Citizen Tsuyosa looks much better designed than this and it's about $300.
This is a brand that has been doing great things recently. For sure a brand to monitor in the next future .
