Crazy to think that Toshiro eating his snack is literally what kicks off the events that lead to Ichigo being born and thus the story moving on at all.
When i read this scene in the manga, it crossed my mind that throughout the series, whenever Toshiro shows up at Ichigo’s house, Isshin is never around.
can you imagine during that one time that Rangiku tried to flash herself towards ichigo just so she could stay in his house, just the idea of Ishin walking in and just seeing his former lieutenant doing that to his kid.
Dammit Rangiku, I leave for 20 years and this is the first thing I see? And you Toshiro, have you been letting her get away with things like that? How do you plan to land a man Rangiku, when you're giving the goods away for a roof over your head to any guy you meet? First Yoruichi, now you. Stop flashing my son FFS.
I just realize when they all in ichigo's house, all it takes is for isshin to go upstairs and bother his son, and toshiro amd rangiku would know they're in their former captains house, damn
I think the only other times Isshin and Hitsugaya/Rangiku saw each other in Bleach: -The scene when Rangiku and Isshin saw each other when Ichigo brought an exhausted Isshin with him after training to obtain Mugetsu while Rangiku tried to save Gin from Aizen's wrath. -I'd say more off-screen, but Isshin arriving to Fake Karakura Town to fight Aizen while Hitsugaya was incapacitated. Same setting and all.
Not how I would personally put it, on account they're essentially peers and Hitsugaya acts more like an adult than Matsumoto. Suppose them being my OTP also contributes to me not seeing it like that.

Well keep in mind although us fans would love to see more slice of life interactions, Soul Reapers still dont associate with humans from the world of the living. Even if thanks to Ichigo changing SS for the better, they still uphold their rules and traditions of doing their job and keeping the balance. This goes for Karin and Yuzu though. As for Ishin we should get a bit more at the end when he goes to SS. I do wish Karin accepted her abilities or get a short stories of her loosing all her powers like Ichigo to become human, something for her and Uruharas kids.
Can't help to wonder how long it was from this point to where Toshiro had to watch Kusaka(his best friend from Diamond Dust Rebellion) be killed over the dispute of Hyōrinmaru
It’s crazy that we don’t ever see an interaction with Toshiro and Isshin in the current events. Hopefully we get to see it in the final part of the anime…
I feel like people overexaggerate her "laziness". She doesn't want to do paperwork.....Like...who cares? She's not going to get better at fighting by doing paperwork. People act like she's lazy "in battle" or "in the field", but she really isn't. Anytime we've seen her fight, even if it wasn't particularly impressive, she's always been proactive and on-guard - not lazy at all. She's just....not really OP - as one may expect of a random side character. Even in this clip, when things got serious, she was ready to follow Isshin immediately. Proof that when it actually matters, she's willing to actually work and do her part. Now obviously she would have been way above her head in this situation, so Toshiro's call to stay back was very smart (and shows why he's already better than her at this stage since he's making better educated decisions), but the point is : Rangiku isn't particularly lazy, she just doesn't want to do boring paperwork. Which is understandable. Regarding her not achieving Bankai, well it's meant to be extremely rare to begin with, but also as others have stated : she used to have the Nail of the Soul King in her (which, imo, might have made her much stronger initially if she could have kept it) but Aizen stole it from her. He noted that she should have died from this, so the fact that she not only survived but also kept enough Spirital Pressure to actually become a Lieutenant-level Shinigami was somewhat note-worthy.
The "bull's-eye" line doesn't make sense without the context of the manga. They changed how the scene went down for some reason. In the manga, she takes a pan (or something) from a passerby and throws it into the tree, and that hits Isshin and knocks him out of it. Hence: bull's-eye
Ichigo and Toshiro's partnership in the second movie and Toshiro running into Karin in a filler suddenly don't seem like coincidences. It's as if Isshin's bloodline is positively attracted to Toshiro for some reason.

Only two days passed after that point and Isshin didnt return, rendering the squad captainless. Its never implied that Toshiro somehow developed bankai during this extremely small time period. Most likely, after Isshin's disappearance Toshiro was accepted as a temporary substitute captain, since he did all the paperwork already anyway. Then, before a better candidate was found, he developed his bankai and took this place - which could have taken quite a significant time, we dont know for sure how much. It is also possible that he bypassed the bankai requirement, since there are 3 ways to become a captain: to pass a test (involving bankai), to kill your own captain (Kenpachi exclusive) and to be approved by enought existing captains. This could easily have happened too. And bankai could probably be achieved like years after this point. Although, replying to the initial question in this comments branch, basically ANYONE is more preferable than Rangiku as a captain, despite her experience. Yes, she has the power of a lieutenant, but she is stuck on this level and has absolutely no ambition or desire to ever grow. She has troubles communicating with Haineko, as both are lazy and vain, and doesnt seem to like the idea of getting any more responsibility or the need to adher to a more reserved behavior expected from a captain. Never in a million years could she be entrusted with making any captain level decisions. But apparently, she really IS a solid lieutenant.

Third, well, then its a HUGE plot hole, because a bankai wielding Hitsugaya couldnt have possibly been a burden on Isshin if he went after his captain back then. Isshin himself couldnt use bankai in this battle, and although noone could know he would be wounded to not be able to use bankai, Hitsugaya's presence would have helped him immensely. I dont believe Isshin to be much more powerful in bankai than Hitsugaya was at the time, the difference couldnt have been so dire for Toshiro to just refuse to follow his captain because of it. It has no explanation, basically a very useful Toshiro just abandoned his captain while feeding Rangiku a lie that they BOTH COMBINED wouldnt be able to help and would only get in a way. If anything, i'd expect him to be more reluctantly put into captain's position after that miscalculation, and him personally to reflect on that for years after it happened. It was kinda a plot hole even before, since his shikai is much more capable in his hands than Rangiku's shikai - in hers, but with that bankai bit of info him being only a third seat is simply dumb.
