Duuuude, this looks SICK. I'm seriously looking forward to future episodes. There are a number of pointers I want to make however as a means for improvement in future episodes:
0:20 - Room looks too bright considering how ambient the light was when he woke up. It looks almost as if shading was removed from the scene.
0:30 - The physics of the bin landing is really strange. If you wanted to carry across the impression it was really light than you achieved that. But if you were going for an impression it was heavy, I recommend making Joel's movements more dynamic (imagine how you would lift up something heavy and take note of your foot placement, arm/hand placement and how your body moves). This wacky physics is present throughout the whole video where everything is absent of acceleration and deceleration in its movements, severely messing with the video's immersion due to everything lacking a sense of weight and realism. Another thing constantly present is how the characters have really stiff bodies. Not everyone stands perfectly straight and rigid when they're standing still, you have to give your characters life through action, not just dialogue.
0:32 - Continuing on with my previous point, Joel's head turn "just moves", the turn didn't have any sense of acceleration and deceleration and making his head movement look and feel extremely robotic. The transition from his head turn to his wave felt really robotic since his movements had sudden stops and starts and they didn't flow into the next movement. Just compare Joel's movement in this scene to the old man right after. Look how fluid and realistic the man's movement feels and looks because he has a multitude of different movements that flow together like a real person in addition to his back not being stiff (an issue that all the characters seem to have apart from the zombie who's slouched posture ironically gave him more life than the unturned)
0:54 - The voice actor for Lt. Chris, when introducing himself, had a mic pop when he said "Chris". Avoid this! It affects the immersion greatly since it doesn't sound like Chris is really there.
1:21 - The door swing behind Chris again, suffers from lacking a sense of weight and presence due to its lack of acceleration and deceleration. Seeing how Chris let go of the door rather than pushed it close, the door close should've gone slowly, then quickened its pace. However, it was in the reverse which made the door look really strange. Also, every character in the room just stood there, with no passive movements to give them life, per se. Do avoid this in the future, especially with inactive/passive zombies since they'll look like statues rather than beings know what I mean? These movements don't have to be anything major, just something small. Maybe a foot shuffle, scratching themself, very minute head bobbing and shoulder rising (to imitate breathing). Just take a look at when an unturned character doesn't move in the game. Notice how their arm swings ever so slightly? This little thing makes them feel and look more "alive".
1:42 - The volume and pitch difference in Joel's speech and Chris's speech is rather strange since Joel sounds quieter and almost muffled in comparison to Chris's crisp, clear voice despite being in the same room. Especially when at 3:30, Joel's voice is crystal clear and at a perfect volume. This may be a mic problem or an editing problem.
2:07 - Chris's dialogue here just doesn't fit with the character he is. He's a Lt in the Army, that kind of phrase of "tear you open and eat you while you're still alive" just doesn't fit. If he said something like "They have shown no hesitation in eating those who aren't one of them", that would've been more suitable. Also, if the military is going to be a common theme/occurrence, please do prior research regarding terminologies, military procedures, weapon/equipment handling, tactics and so forth to keep the immersion going.
3:33 - Again, the arm movement is too "paced", making it feel, again, robotic. There's just no easing, acceleration or deceleration.
3:40 - Whilst the zombie movement prior was just *chef kiss* perfect, the zombie dropping after getting headshot was too slow. A bullet quite literally passed through its head, so, seeing how it was from a pistol, the head could've either snapped back then forward again, a moment of stalling, then the zombie just plopping to the floor. Or the zombie just straight dropping to the floor since that's how stationary pistol headshot victims act immediately after death.
3:48 - The inhale Joel does; you can hear a bit of spit interfering with it. While it's not really a big deal, it's not particularly professional. Also, Joel's hair clips a bit too much into the tank to the point where it's basically cutting into his skull. While clipping isn't really a major deal-breaker, it's just something to look out for and avoid to maintain immersion.
4:03 - Joel's neck is clipping out of his collar. Seeing how the models are, I don't think could've been avoided, but if you don't want that happening in the future I recommend maybe making him lean forward a bit more. By doing so you effectively maintain immersion whilst still achieving the goal of him turning to his left. On top of that, again the head turns looking robotic. However, the main issue is actually the lighting. There appears to be some light leaking on his mouth and hairline. Perhaps there are some issues with the models?
4:05 - The camera panning speed is suddenly stopped abruptly, making the scene incredibly jarring. I recommend keeping a consistently slow camera pan speed to prevent this. Chris's whole range of movement in this one scene again looks robotic and stiff. What I suggest you should've done to make him appear more lifelike is instead of him slowly raising the radio at a very forced pace, have him keep fiddling with the radio then his head snapping up upon hearing the hatch closing. His body turning in this scene was "paced" again, also again easily remedied with easing, acceleration and deceleration.
4:21 - The light disappearing for the explosion was really weird. There was the explosion of light from the shell, the light lingered then suddenly disappeared. Explosive and gun fire light disappears instantaneously, there's no lingering.
PLEASE don't misunderstand, I really enjoyed this episode. I'm merely pointing out the things I noticed in the video which affected the video's immersion in some way. Overall, your camera angles are amazing (especially that camera following the tank's barrel turning that was just pure *nut* ), the voice acting is really well done (You can tell the voice actors are trying their hardest), the storyline is most certainly entertaining and the sound and music are extremely well done (especially the fade away of Joel's voice as the camera pans away from his kitchen, I applaud your attention to detail). Another thing I want to add, at 0:07 we see a sheet that says "GEORGE MILLER, YOU'RE DRAFTED". This a great example at "show, don't tell" in narratives. You didn't tell us anything and as the viewer, we already know that the protagonist is George Miller, and he's forced into the army. Again, I applaud your attention to detail. Please keep this up, nothing ruins a good story by the writer choosing to tell and explain everything rather than the environment "explaining" itself. If your story gets the viewer's to theorise, speculate and generally just think about the story and draw connections and conclusion about it, then you've done a superb job as a storyteller.
I'm really looking forward to seeing new episodes and watching you grow as an animator, writer and film-maker. I got a lot of high hopes for this series and you :)
Subbed and turned on the notif bell ;)

Thank you so much for the feedback! A few things to note myself.
The lighting in the bedroom is quite bad there like you said, Im still learning about lighting in general so for sure it will hopefully look much nicer in the future episodes when i learn more!
      The characters did move slightly
when they weren't doing much in the meeting scene. Though it is very hard to spot, but there's little slight movements with their bodies and heads, but for sure i will take your advice and make it much more clear later.
Joel's voice was made quieter in those scenes due to him being a little further away, but you are right about them sounding a little too quiet at parts. And military wont be a common thing, but
it might make some appearances later on so i will for sure do a much better job with it.
The zombies dead not snapping back, ye i forgot that one
, my bad, and i will for sure have many more things sped up and less slow.
Many of the lighting issues like with the teeth/hair on the models are all due to the denoiser
i was using im hoping to use a better one in the future, now that i know quite a few, it even took away the textures i had on the road to make them not one static colour! Who could have seen the denoiser would take away the noise from it...
The explosion light, yea, i kept it around with the fire particles, i really should have turned down the brightness or taken it out of that bit entirely.
But like i said, thank you so much for all the feedback, I am always looking to improve. All of your advice will for sure help us improve and make the best content we can possibly make!
Also congratulations on making the longest thought out comment on my channel!

Unturned could use some quality UA-cam content, especially nowadays. Super nice work! I always wondered how the infection managed to get to PEI even with the bridge destroyed. Belfast Airport? Beached cargo ship? Might as well have been Joe Miller leaving the Lieutenant to die and turn The-Walking-Dead-style on the island side of the bridge. I suppose Nelson wants us to fill in the blanks, which is what you did here. Probably takes forever to make one of these too, but looking forward to episode 2 if there is one! Hey just spent an hour scrolling through the unturned reddit top of all time and couldnt find it... rip. Anyways wanted to ask how you got all the unturned assets? Is there a folder for all the models and textures or did you have to remake them?

    • @DeerryteTV
      @DeerryteTV  4 роки тому +3

I plan on making a full video series on how I set everything up and do all this stuff but that might be awhile.
For the meantime, there's quite a few places you can locate the models and textures. But first you will need this tool if you don't already have it. community.7daystodie.com/topic/1871-unity-assets-bundle-extractor/
Now for the character itself, it has a .blend file with no need for extraction located under:
      Steam\steamapps\common\Unturned\Bundles\Sources\Animation
For the main files, models AND textures, they are all stored in the "core.masterbundle" file under:
      Steam\steamapps\common\Unturned\Bundles
All the proper models that aren't the low detail skybox models are all called Model_0, yea, it took 3 full days of nonstop file sorting for every model.
Also the hair for the characters, I was never able to find them so idk where they could be.
But since the main models are a huge unsorted mess, i recommend going to:
      Steam\steamapps\common\Unturned\Bundles\Sources
And grabbing some of the files from the "ExampleAssets.unitypackage", It doesn't have all the models, but it does have all the guns properly sorted with all their parts and textures, but blender cant read some of the fbx files since they are ASCII, and if thats the case you can use this tool:
      www.autodesk.com/developer-network/platform-technologies/fbx-converter-archives
      Hopefully that helped!

Plot of that episode is actually not that good as it could be. Main character's motivation looks unjustified; but this was matter limitation of lenght that have this episode I see.
Potential of an idea to show what happened on Confederation Bridge is very exciting.
It could be a story about how the military arrived on a special mission, but faced the problem of spreading the virus among civilians on the bridge. There could be some kind of conflict between the main character and the command on that question. And in the end, the character might defect because of wrong things that he didn’t do, but for which PEI, his entire island where he grew up, would soon be turn into a deadly trap. But this is just my imaginations.
And about animation. Why didn't you just pull the game assets from the files? Like models etc.
Anyway, this is a great series
despite all the shortcomings that I have described. Good luck with that beginnings!
    P. S. Sry for my English language knowledge if it worse. (I used Google Translate tho)
