Evangelist Exposes 'Darker Turn' of Taylor Swift's Music, Sounds Alarm

- An evangelist going viral for his response to pop star Taylor Swift's latest album is explaining why he spoke out and why he's hoping to encourage Christian parents to be discerning. "I'm not an anti-Taylor guy," Shane Pruitt told CBN News. "I'm [a] pro-Gospel guy." He continued, "Anything that I know is largely affecting parents, or Christians, or people in the church that seems to ... be anti-Gospel, I think we lovingly call it out."
Pruitt did just that in a April 22 tweet, gently raising concern over some of Swift's lyrics on her "The Tortured Poets Department" album. "LYRICS MATTER," Pruitt tweeted. "Disclaimer, I’m definitely not the minister or parent that has the 'no secular music' stance. Also, I fully realize unbelievers are going to act like unbelievers. HOWEVER, there is a difference between being secular, and being ANTI-CHRISTIAN."
He then pulled lyrics about people "in their Sunday best" who "try to save you 'cause they hate you," among other related sentiment. Pruitt also quoted Swift as belting out the following lines in another song: "What if I roll the stone away? They're gonna crucify me anyway. What if the way you hold me is actually what's holy?" Pruitt concluded his tweet by asking Christians whether it's appropriate to be "entertained by, sing with, and expose our kids to lyrics that aren’t just different than what you believe, but are actually mocking what you believe."
The evangelist and preacher told CBN News he believes Swift's music has changed over the years, with her songs becoming "more and more explicit" and taking a "darker turn" in the process. It's a concerning matter, Pruitt said, considering the music is consumed by many young and impressionable girls. "I think we just need to be very aware and very careful of what we're exposing our kids to and how we're even engaging with things and being entertained by things that are really anti what we say we believe," Pruitt said.
Of course, Pruitt said Swift isn't the only vice exposing some Christians' poor spiritual priorities. In fact, he said some people even struggle with sports teams and athletes, elevating these to a higher position than they should. Calling this out doesn't always go well, he said. "In recent years, I can say this - especially in the American Church - if I go, 'Hey, here's what the Bible says about sexuality, here's what the Bible says about marriage, here's what the Bible says about being pro-life, here's what the Bible says about God determining sex and gender,' you'll get some hardy 'Amens,'" Pruitt said. "People are emboldened by that."

That's true. But, I don't listen to the words I like the beat of the music. At age 76 and a Christian I enjoy all kinds of music. If you look at lyrics from my parents age that they loved those weren't always the best words. What some call the really old time Gospel came from the slaves and that's the way they communicated to each other, even their worship. Just as quilts were used by the Underground Railroad. They hung special ones on the clothes line saying if it was safe, directions. Right now I worry more about what is happening on college campuses. We don't want another Hitler World win genocide. Remember Israel is God's people and right now that is important what is happening.
@@mchyde9645 I cannot listen to any secular music. I always hear “I don’t listen to the words I like the beat” from others, but they do no realize that words can be way more powerful than we know. They can use music to program your subconscious mind to believe anything. You may not focus so closely to the lyrics or words of a song but the message is still there and gets into your mind regardless and can effect your thoughts on a subconscious level.

The same thing happened when I told a Christian sister about Disney here in Florida, she got angry and told me not to contact her again. The things happening at Disney are dangerious. One character took a photo of a teen with another Disney character and then the one holding the phone wanted the teen to pay it to get her phone back and someone interviened and asked the teen if she wanted to report it and she just took her phone and walked away. Another News report has said that some Disney employees have been arrested for sexual things towards kids and teens. Be very careful when going to Disney, always have an adult with your kids, either waiting for the ride to finish or escorting your child to the bathroom.

Just had this conversation last night with my teen who wanted to blast her eras show on tv and I told her I would not glorify sin in my home. She let me know that she would do it when she no longer lives with me as an adult and I explained I get that but I have lived that life before of glorifying self serving degradation and sin and I had to be dramatically rescued by Jesus from that life so God will also meet her at the right place and time for her and until then we will need to agree to disagree.

If a female is young and sexually attractive, she is a "girl" as Helen Gurley Brown said. Men are more attractive and taken more seriously if they are mature and that means older since males mature both physically and psychologially later as a rule. Men are also more attractive if they are older and have gained more experience that allows them to be wealthier and have a higher status as well as being a more effective leader, which the husband in a marriage is by position. It's an insult to refer to a mature male as a "boy" since boys are not to be taken seriously in these terms of commanding resources, influence, and judgement. In contrast, even teenaged girls are much more mature and they are fertile. Older women are not fertile and so they lose their attractiveness, which is nature's way of telling men to leave them alone for romantic love and sexual attraction (unless they are already married and the husband remembers them as "the wife of [his] youth).
Males are at a huge disadvantage early on while females have much more going for them early on. Then the situation reverses over time. So, the term "woman" is not the same as the term "man" in its connotations for attractiveness whereas the situation is reversed with the terms "girl" and "boy." The simple fact is that the sexes are different.

Wow! So good. As I was praying this morning Holy Spirit showed me that I am guilty of loving the “things of God” more than Him. The people and things I value most are all Christ centered, but sometimes the pursuit of HIM gets lost in church, Bible Studies and fellowship with HIM.
Don't mean to be critical here, but this doesn't quite make sense. Fellowship with him IS loving him. That's what it's about. That's how I spend time with him. Reading his word, talking to him, listening to him, spending time with what he has for me. Same thing could be said of a person - a person you fellowship with and spend time talking to and listening to IS someone you love.

If you are constantly listening to songs that make you sad, you're really going to start to feel down & oppressed,
if your eyes are taking in pornographic images, guess what - it results in a spirit of lust - same with watching violent films/footage, playing some of these video games it's has caused some youngsters (& older) to then 'act out' WHAT they've interacted with in the game.
Our souls are precious and I wish I had known this truth when I was growing up & starting to 'experience' the world - I would have been SOooo much better off for it!!!

What a great man and so eloquently stated! I was a longtime fan and agree with the selling of her soul, she herself has identified as a Christian in years past. There is definitely a dark overtone to Hollywood, possibly satanic circles and we need to be discerning of many things. I hope she comes back to the good side!

As a Christian we are to judge darkness by the Bible the word of God Its dark or light choice is yours but you can't have it both ways. No sitting on the fence those times are over . No lukewarm Christian you are or your not who are you going to worship.

I'm in my early thirties. And I feel like a lot of people are so lost. They don't know who they are and they haven't had life-changing situations to understand who they are. And if one doesn't know who they are they're going to follow others who don't know who they are.
A 26 I was diagnosed with brain tumors followed by three brain surgeries. They were failed leaving me in an extreme chronic pain. I'm finally seeing the blessings years later. That situation took me to my bottom and showed me who I was. God met me there and let me at my worst and I've definitely been humbled.
I don't wish for pain for anybody. But some of us learn the hard way. And I hope everyone is able to have this experience of hitting rock bottom and truly understanding where you are at and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior. We will never experience a love like Jesus Christ ❤️❤️

My 31 yr old just married daughter is all sold out for TS. She is saved, filled with Holy Spirit and sings on a local church worship team. I don’t get it. Even if TS is a great singer, what about her character. I can’t convince her of the conflict. Only God can. I can only pray for her. 🙏❤️

I didn't even buy this one, even removing the sacrilegious lyrics her writing has gone downhill...she USED to be a good writer who could paint a picture of that monent in time in words...look at All Too Well for an example, you can picture what she's singing about in your head.
