Thank you so much. I am only a beginner and my photographs are probably the most boring things you've ever seen, however, I do get a great deal of satisfaction from getting a few good photographs when I go out to shoot. I get so excited for a photograph that makes me actually feel like I've accomplished something! Many of my friends are far much better than I, but my excitement comes from seeing what I can get that satisfies me. I will keep working hard at my photographs. Thanks again.

Surprising that there are only 5 comments on this one!
Thanks a bunch, B&H and Forest for this session. Super useful information covering a really complex subject in photography. I have been hearing the terms dark and offset and bias and light et al without ever fully understanding the why of it. Forest covered it really well explaining the what and also the why. I now feel confident about going out and capturing better pictures of the skies above.
    Thanks a ton again!

Nice to see another Physicist on here. I just started getting into Astrophotography the last few months - DSLR and Sky-watcher Sky Adventurer Pro - but just started using something I don't see very many astrophoto guys discussing. And that is using a laptop connected to the camera in order to setup the camera position. I found using the Live View panel extremely difficult. But the other night I connected my camera to my laptop running Lightroom Classic and was able to use the laptop monitor to review the camera aim.

This was an awesome presentation. Very detailed and just enough technical as to allow us to know what the heck is happening with all those fancy terms.

@@forestchaput Hi Forest, i really did. It has made me look at light differently as i never really considered the actual way the sensor collects light, next stop is the purchase of a tracker :)

Pointing a tracker at the southern cross will not work - it's a long way from the south celestial pole.

Actually all the polar scope in most trackers is calibrated for the southern cross.

This has great info... however.. you really should change the topic title. . I watched most of this before realizing its not for astrp cameras,, but for people with dslr cameras, which are total different , than cooled astro cameras..
I'm kinda of surprised you don't add DSLR-ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY for beginners ..
Being as I think you should know the difference.
Need to forget most of what I just heard. As it doesn't apply to cooled astro cameras as much.
But for dslr users great info..
