For the Italian illustration, I always thought it was showing Harry traveling through time with Riddle's diary.
So glad you decided to keep going with this. Part one was so interesting. To see covers that looked like kids drawings and using random clip art was crazy
More to come!
The book Harry's flying on, it's probably Tom Riddle's diary.
Too funny I was just thinking it might be a diary reference since it shows up in more than one cover.
That is brilliant. Totally didn’t think of that.
That's a really good explanation.
I've always thought the flying book represented indeed Tom Riddle's diary taking Harry to a metaphorical journey through memories (as in "flying back in time").
The silly hat featuring a snake head is probably meant as a representation of Harry's fear of being the heir of Slytherin.
In the Finnish edition, the girl on the front cover, is Ginny, she had red hair.. Also Hermione in those covers looks different from that (not in this book but in the first one for example).. And the two other people in the background with dark hair, are Draco and Lucius Malfoy, the red think on Lucius hand is Tom Riddles diary..
Thanks for the info! These assessments make sense.
Portugal @@ThePotterCollector
Yes, that's who I always interpreted them to be as well!
I can't be the only one who caught this, you calling Fang, Fluffy
The king cobra would make sense since isn’t the basilisk the king of snakes in the wizard world? And in muggle world the king cobra is that.
You should do a read along for the Harry Potter books to refresh your memory. I haven’t read / listened to any bc I just don’t have the patience. But I really think I could if you read them
Its kind of amazing that so many covers look like the person who created them did not read the book they were supposed to illustrate.
The oddest thing to me about the CoS covers is that so many of them explicitly spoil the whole plot. Like what's the point of reading a 300 page mystery when the answer is on the cover, big and centre?
Yeah maybe there could just be like some red stern eyes in the corner but not show the outline
good point!
The Finnish book: the hat is more reminiscent of Dartagnan and the three musketeers.
Hi Peter! I’m confused too with the pink background and the star book cover for Chamber of Secrets. You’d think it would be for Order of the Phoenix with Umbridge. Lol I love the big noses and Dobby’s big ears on the book cover, is that weird? Lol The Japanese one is an interesting book cover, I like it. The Persian book cover is pretty cool, I like the wings on the Ford Anglia. I love the details on the Ukrainian book cover. Thank you so much for sharing! 💚🖤💚
In Bulgaria there is( was) a publishing company ( Egmont Bulgaria) that sometimes did contests about child drawings that could end up as book covers of a future edition. The reason why I am saying that is that the bosnian cover of the HPCOS to me ressembles such drawing. Usually that publishing house contests were opened to children age 6 to 13.
Oh it totally looks like something like that!
@@ThePotterCollector If I am not wrong the last time you showed us your total HP library( 2 years ago I think) the Bulgarian edition was different from my own( I think my covers were the scholastic edition covers). The covers looked exactly like a child drawings of the HP series
Hi Peter, i hope ypu and your family are all happy and well. Oh i live this series, as a book geek i would live to learn more about your book collection and your library, as in do you read anything else what other books do you have ?? Oh you should read Bella Forrest secrets of spellshadow manour series, its very harry potter but so much darker !! 😃 i also collect harry potter books, i over 80 in my library mostly in uk editions, i do have the hogwarts library in American editions aswell, but im beyond excited as i have finally found and bought my dream American box set, of course you will probably have it already in your wonderful library, the 2007 limited edition box set that comes in a trunk 😃 im been searching years for it but it looks like amazon who sold out within a few days when it came out, have found a few in some hidden corner as thry have it back in stock so i finally got one. My next dream wish list item on my list is to get a copy of the Harry Potter Monster Book of Monsters 1:1 Scale Prop Replica the one that looks like the monster book of monsters. I had 3 harry potter books on my dream wish list, which usually means that I really, really want it but ill never own it, 1 - the collectors edition of beedle and bard, i know you already have this, i finally found a copy in my budget 2 years ago, and the only reason it was in my budget was because the outer cardboard cover and the envelope the prints come in are missing, since i wanted it for myself and will never sell it , i didnt care about thoses minor issues afterall i just wanted the beautiful book inside and the the cool leather bound box it came in lol, 2 - was the American 2007 limited edition trunk box set which i finally ordered last week, so who knows i may get thr monsters book one day too. 😃 of course i have a none harry potter dream wish list too but i know for a fact I'll never get any of those unless i win the lottery 🤣 if i do win the lottery the first thing i would get is a true first edition first printing copy of watership down, that is at the top of that list but i need a few thousand spare to get one of those, why did my parents have to throw away my copy i had as a child along with all my other books, some of which would be worth a fortune now 😳, so since i cant afford a first edition i had to settle for a second edition instead to add to my signed first edition and my old paperback first editions and my collectors first edition copy, yeah i have around 6 copies of the book lol. Please , please do more videos on you library and books 📚 i love all your videos but those are my favourite 😃
So glad you decided to keep going with this=3 Part one was a fantastic experience=3
❤❤❤ During the Defense class remember that the snake was a cobra in the movie, it could be an inspiration from that edition
I read them as they came out. I always thought like a giant anaconda type snake for the basilisk.
Maybe it’s Tom Riddle’s diary on the book cover from Italy 🤔🤷🏻♀️
Like your T-shirt. Where did you get it?
Thank you for another cool video Peter ❤
The artistic style of some are more beautiful and quirky than others but It's interesting to see the interpretations of the books through their point of view to create a cover. I'm so curious about Harry riding on a book like a magic carpet, reference to being pulled into the diary possibly.
Totally agree. That’s why I love collecting translations. Seeing how other countries interpret the books is so fascinating.
I'm really enjoying this series already. Any excuse to look at all this wonderful wacky artwork. So many creative interpretations of these stories. That Finnish Dobby though!
Finnish book, the redhead is Ginny, the background guys are the Malfoys, notice Riddle's diary on the bigger ones hand (nobody knows why they've got black hair).
I'm really looking forward to seeing the original Artwork. What a great idea
As a fellow Bosnian I love our covers, thank you for including them! 😊
Same! There’s something very magical about them.
Hi Peter.
Is Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone filipino edition a difficult book to find and what is a reasonable price for it?
So awesome. I only want (now) the Jim Kay and the Minalima editions.
Maybe the flying book, precents tom's memorys in diary?
The Japanese editions were the first non English language editions I bought. covers are stunning, and I love the interior illustrations. Definitely my favourite set. Also the drawing of a scroll around the text of letters that are received
3:08 The Chamber of Secrets in the American edition also has windows!
I think Harry riding on the book is supposed to represent Harry's connection to Tom Riddle's diary and the journey it takes Harry on in the book.
I did in fact imagine the snake (Basilisk) just like the one on the cover untill i first saw the movie, but that is because i grew up with that version of the book :)
Hi there Peter, I am glad you are keeping up with this series looking forward to your next video God bless Peter
I don't think that is the golden snitch. It looks like the bludger headed towards his hand from off to his right. In the Danish edition.
I don't think any of the illustrators ever read the original books?! Peter you should listen to the books if you don't have time to read them. You may have already heard them but if not try the Steven Fry one. I listen to them every night as I go to sleep. I'm 66 & have done this for about 10 years. Don't know how many times I've heard them!
Hi Peter great video very nice books 📚. I liked to read books but now I would just love to watch them on DVD 📀 or on television. ❤❤
It’s been a long time since I first read the books before the movies (almost 10 years) but I think I imagined the basilisk to be green and kind of look like the eels from the little mermaid, but with dragon legs because my 5th grade brain couldn’t process how it was moving without legs
I love the Bosnian, but at the same time I hate that so many covers spoil the big snake reveal. New little kids are hopefully discovering Harry Potter all the time, and it's a bit sad that a plot twist is just on the cover.
Please do a set of the beautiful book covers
Isn't the flying book on the Italian cover the diary of Tom Riddle? Travelling through Riddle's memory?
Could the book on the cover of the Italian and Portuguese versions be the Tom Riddle Diary and Harry flying on it represents him being taken back 50 years in the past. Just my interpretation.
Maybe the covers with Harry flying on a book are supposed to be referencing the Very Secret Diary sequence…just a thought.
Bosnian version of Dobby looks interesting. I thought the Basilisk looked like a king cobra. I love the way Dobby looks like on the Finnish cover. For the Italian cover, Harry was writing to Voldemort's alter ego in the diary, and in the film it was like he was seeing the past, but was still living in the present.
Finnish Dobby is cursed
4:19 THATS GLINDA FROM WICKED. ❤
😂😂😂
I was thinking the same thing.😂😂😂
The "flying book" is Tom Riddle's Diary. And it's not flying so much as taking Harry through Tom Riddle's memories!
The Harry Potter logo designed by David Saylor. ❤
The book on The portugese edition made me think of Tom Riddle's diary...
I think the basilisk shouldn't be on the covers at all because that's a big spoiler and it makes no sense at all.😅💁♂️
Agreed! Good observation!
if you google Harry Potter in Anime style in images they look very cool
Fluffy or Fang at the end?? 18:18
maybe they mistook "house elf" for "mouse elf"
The star is the three stars representing Harry Ron and hermione I have them tattooed
The Italian book ..could that be the Diary of Tom Riddle ??
The atar is a wand!
When I read the 2nd book for the first time I thought they Harry was being traumatized by a giant snake that was being controlled by Draco Malfoy
I feel the Mongolian version has the place where he landed after saying diagon alley wrong. Nocturn alley?
Bosnian is my favourite again. I really like those so far.
Maybe the book is supposed to be harry going into tom riddles diary?
I like the Bosnia and Herzegovina book covers to be honest. They have all the key elements and if you are not familiar with the plot at all it all looks like what the heck is happening in this book, it can't be all of this is in the novel. And then it is :) remebering my childhood and how I loved crazy looking cover and fantastic stories that would catch my intention for sure.
I like your videos.
Harry Potter gryffindor ⚡ ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
Cocktail wand 🤣
This silly hat illustrator - lol I do not know how to feel about her - I like the whimsy but it's so wrong at the same time haha
How fun !
I kinda like the Portuguese cover 😂😂.
Does Rowling approve of these covers (and release of these versions ) or how does that work? And why not just use the original covers in these other countries?
i imagine she didn’t approve the uk ones either cos the original covers had a younger wizard on the back which got changed to an older wizard once people started reading the books
different countries have different tastes, and publishing companies have the freedom to design the book covers themselves
Persia is the winner in my eyes 👀 ❤
Is the star on the Catalan cover supposed to be a snitch? I actually really like the Bosnian cover.
nice
Love these videos my favorites are the Finnish Italian yes why is harry flying on a book Japanese Persian and ukrainian
The japanese book is very 90s, abstract :-)
and im a harry potter fan
Harry never flew on a 📖 in a dream 👍 🛌
He flew on something… I just can’t remember what.
Wait, was it an owl?? I swear there’s a dream in the books…
@@ThePotterCollectorit was an owl, in goblet of fire, which was delivering a message to voldemort and wormtail from crouch (when harry would see into voldemort’s mind)
😊🎉🦁
Pretty early

i subscribe can i please have a harry potter wand
You should have included the bulgarian editions. They are ugly, strange and so crazy that you can not even make out the meaning of the drawings and we can not look at them. I am from Bulgaria when the fans see them, we run away like a troll is behind us.
