    Great tip with putting the tissue into the socket so you don't drop the nut! Very good video, thank you!

    Thanks for the video, very clear instruction and I like that you showed the tools beforehand. I just did mine, took about 3 days because I had to get a new gasket after taking it apart lol. In all honesty took me about 20 minutes of actual working, I didn't bother taking the wire off the temperature sensor it moved back enough without doing it. Also all three of my bolts holding the air filter housing on were 12 mm, not sure why that would be. I was seeing a thermostat housing gasket on rockauto and Napa had one show up but I didn't have a gasket and I think the way it's designed the thermostat o ring sits right on the mating surface so the mating surface doesn't get an coolant flowing over it in case anyone else is wondering about the thermostat housing gasket.

    Thank you for the video! I've never changed my thermostat, how often should you change it? I haven't had any overheating issues. My car is a 96 Corolla with 300k miles. I've had it since 100k miles.

      Hi Carlos, I am not sure how often to change it. You can wait till it gives in, but I prefer to do this as preventative maintenance. :)

    Hi mate, I got a toyota corolla super windy G 1998. Do I need to drain the coolant before changing the thermostat?

    • @Pen_Pusher
      @Pen_Pusher  Рік тому +1

      Yes, you have to drain it. If the coolant is still really good you can reuse it. (I would strain it.) But, normally folks just put in new coolant. :)

    Can I upgrade to steel nuts instead of the old aluminum ones?

    • @Pen_Pusher
      @Pen_Pusher  Рік тому +1

      Some people say you should never mix steel and aluminum. I guess it depends how long you want to drive the car.

    Great video thank you. When I tool mine apart the black seal was broken. Can I just use a gasket instead?

    • @Pen_Pusher
      @Pen_Pusher  2 роки тому

      I wouldn't do that. The black seal is made of rubber and needs to be replaced by a rubber seal.

    Excellent video!!! :D
    Please could you tell me if that sensor that is right on the thermostat cover, where does it show the information that it senses, is it the one that is shown on the instrument panel to the driver or is it for the computer? Does it have any difference with liquid coolant temperature sensor???

    If you dont drain the radiator first, will coolant come out of the thermostat housing when you open it up?

    • @Pen_Pusher
      @Pen_Pusher  Рік тому

      Yes, you have coolant in the hoses.

    i've got a 1.8 7afe 96. I don't want to drop it out yet and navigating my cities spare parts shops sites is a nightmare. What temp setting is that thermostat or have you a link to the parts site please?

      @@Pen_Pusher No. the a/c lines were in the way. The bottom bolt was hell. Later a mechanic showed me that you have to unbolt the a/c components and lift that stuff out of the way just enough to get a ratchet in there.

    This video is mistitled. It is not for a 2001 Toyota (Title says: How to Replace Thermostat: Toyota Corolla 1991 to 2002)
