- Asian Corner Mall. Formerly known as the Tryon Mall, it is a dead mall that has remained largely unmolested since day one. It is a vintage treat to behold in a bad neighborhood.

Is grew up in that mall. When it was Tryon Mall. The first store on the left when the video begins was an ice cream shop named Breasler’s. Even though it looks different now, I can still remember it!
Seems this mall could be a hit if they'd update it but keep its original personality. And especially if they'd get good security and cameras and repave the parking lot. I love the idea of an Asian Mall.
Interestingly enough, Woolco had a mall similar to Tryon Mall but in SC. It’s name was Bell Tower. It only lasted for 14 years before becoming county offices. Greenville also contains a well-preserved 60s mall, McAlister Square, which is still open to the public, but is dead.
Fisitron - The Dead Mall Files We had a Woolco mall in Transcona 🇨🇦 called Crossroads Shopping Centre, it had a hot-dog stand and fountain, and a cool place called Syd’s Carousel, I remember playing Taito’s The Ninja Kids there in 1990
This place needs a lot of help. Boarded up storefronts, ceiling tiles falling, and parking lot craters. From the outside, the mall looks like it is doing well except for the vacant Peebles. The inside is a much different story.
Just to add, the Vietnamese sandwich shop (banh mi) is arguably the best in Charlotte and the dim sum place is amazing
My grandmother who's vietnamese used to take me to that shop all the time when I was 10
This place is fascinating, almost looks like a scene from Blade Runner..
Brings back some memories. The library, Hardee's, Park-N-Shop (grocery), A&P (closed~1977), Eckerd, pet store, record shop, cafeteria. Theater in the parking lot. All gone now. There is a smaller dead mall just down the road, Northpark. Once anchored by Richway/Target and Kroger/Bi-Lo.
Another great piece. So many place like this that have fallen to the wayside.

LOL I was there today. I drove a couple of hours to Charlotte (to buy my Asian ingredients from Super G market) and I decided to visit this place since I hadn’t been there since 1999/2000! It’s so sad and nasty in there. The banh mi is okay, good for Charlotte, I’ve had way better. I saw some homeless people in there too.
Used to work at the mall back in the day. Eckerd's Drugs was on the corner and had the best hotdogs.

This looks so much like Cali Saigon Mall in Garland, but that's in a decent area and thriving.
According to commenters on Sky City there was an Eckerd's next to the mall entrance and the building attached to the right side of Collins/Peebles was A&P which closed around 1977/78
Woolco closed in 1982 and the Peebles closed as early as 1992

Used to go here for the Asian grocery store, but I haven't been in years. The parking lot is a literal nightmare.
i roamed this mall as a kid its a strange feeling to drive past it also had a couple night clubs there

We used to go to parking shop and get a hotdog at Tryon mall I can't remember if it was woolco or Rose's that used to be a great part of town until the early 90s crime took over down there,sad will probably end up like EASTLAND MALL.

I wish developers had a heart for restoring...there cld be just as much money to be made in preserving properties original design. Athentic culture and historical design are valued by many.❤

During the 1960's it was a bustling go to mall. Don't remember early on deadness!?

The only mall I've seen you film that looks worser than this, is Pennrose Mall in Reidsville, NC. Although parts of this mall look borderline almost as bad, as Pennrose does. At least they haven't gone to the extent of roping off sections of this mall, like Pennrose has started to do in some parts!

I'd actually argue Pennrose Mall in Reidsville, NC is a little worser. It has roped off sections, unlike Tryon. Though the current condition of this mall, makes me worried that Tryon may not be far away from looking as bad of a condition, as Pennrose has fallen into. :( Will at least say this may possibly be the 2nd worse condition mall I've seen you do, over the years.
