  • Greenwood Mall is a surviving mall in the Bowling Green region of Kentucky. Although a tenant rot is beginning to form, it still has a fighting chance at staying alive and being a destination.

    Aladdin's Castle was a great arcade right off the food court. You exchanged cash for coins and won tickets to get items. It sadly closed many moons ago. Used to go there as a kid in the mid to late 90's and in the early 2000's it was a favorite gathering place with friends as a teen and fresh out of high school for a short while. Good to see Hot Topic still there. I remember when it had the hell's gate style entrance. Good times!

      I got some years on you my friend. From Glasgow, a trip to the mall was a big deal. I remember passing by the ashtray/garbage cans by the big clock, getting the Return of the Jedi Max Rebo Band from KayBee Toys and looking up at the plastic bagged playboys on the top top shelf at Waldenbooks and B.Dalton Bookstore.

    Thank you for covering Greenwood! My grandparents lived in Bowling Green the longest and whenever we would visit them, we would frequent the mall to keep ourselves entertained. Aladdin’s Castle was my brother and I’s haven when it was around. We spent hours in there playing near every game!

    Vacancies don't took too bad, an empty Sears is almost a given, and Brookfield is one of the better mall operators.

      It’s a shame that there are no more Sears left. I used to love going to Sears and JC Pennies growing up. JC Pennies is still open at the mall in my town. Our Sears closed down about 4 or 5 years ago and last year the local hospital rented it out for Covid Testing and Pfizer vaccines.

    This mall still seems in VERY good shape, to me. I think some of the store closings, were beyond this mall's control, and more due to bankruptcies and certain retailers reducing the number of stores they operate overall.
    I wonder if anyone still sees that ghost, in this mall's parking lot? Good video, and I like the inside look of this mall. Thanks for the tour, of this mall.

      Message me if you need some suggestions for Kentucky. Although in the grand scheme of things, there are only two or three malls in KY (out of nineteen to twenty) that aren't worth the time.

    Very nice mall. Gotta fix that flickering Victoria's Secret (unless thats the design.) I really find it cool how there's a Chuck E. Cheese's here too.

    • @DoomieGruntVentures
      @DoomieGruntVentures  2 роки тому +3

      I've seen the flickering happen at other malls. Its more to do with the camera itself, so you wind up with a very slow flicker effect.

      Yes, it was very a nice CEC with lots of classic decorations on the walls until it remodeled recently into a very bland arcade without even the famous animatronic stage :P

    I really liked the inside of this mall. It to me feels like the modern redesign and retro styles really came together well in here. I would love to shop there if I were a little closer.

    Oh god, I love this mall! I remember this mall being so much more alive back when my family and I went there a lot when I was younger. My dad and I still visit here a lot and there’s still that glory to it. Love the Greenwood mall and I hope it doesn’t go.

    Man. I can smell this. This mall RIGHT HERE! Was my childhood, I especially loved the food court. I used to eat there every weekend saturday with my mom and dad, and my grandparents. after that we would all go check out the stores, and after that I would get to ride the carousel in the front, or go to the jointed Chuck-E-cheese and play arcade games.

    • @ashthewolfdog1380
      @ashthewolfdog1380 Рік тому

      The mall has always had a potent smell of lilacs and fresh store scent, a very nice smell, kinda like entering a target.

      This was my childhood mall as well, but my best memories were of the mall before they added on in the front (including the carousel). The old food court was so good and had a lot of national names like Chick-Fil-A, Dairy Queen, and Wendy's (much better than the food court today). Spent many weekends at this mall and remember always agreeing to "meet back at the clock" at such-and-such time before the days of cell phones. Glad that clock is still there. Great memories!

    Haunted mall/store experience: My friend Alicia worked for Sephora for ten years and was a district manager. She was loved by her employees and knew everyone in the mall. She didn't show up to work for her Friday teleconference and when she didn't answer the phone the police were contacted for a welfare check. She was found a victim of domestic violence. Within a week after her death, the security alarm and registers would go crazy five minutes before opening every day. I was in the store for a class before opening and witnessed it. My friend Shayna worked in the store and would say out loud, "Yes Alicia we know know it's time to open" and everything would stop. This continued for almost a year. It made sense because she was a Type A personality and would run around the store five minutes before opening to make sure everything was clean and organized. I think she just wanted to keep everyone on their toes!

      If this story is real it’s kinda touching in a way. Like a part of her wanted to keep the place running while she could.

    This mall has lost a lot of stores in the past few years. Abercrombie, Express, FYE, The Childrens Place, PACSUN, Gap, New York & Company, Vanity, Body Central, Christopher & Banks, Justice, and Gymboree are the few I can remember and I’m sure I have missed a lot more. Express and PACSUN have both closed, reopened a few years later and then closed a second time at this mall. Victoria’s Secret used to be in the large corner location on the right as you enter the Sears wing and had a strange layout with multiple entrances.

    I think it would be great to fill a mall, in any city with nothing but local small businesses. With one wing dedicated to family friendly events and one wing to an adults only entertainment/bar & grill segment.

    The place still gets enough business. I know people who work there. Other people in town lament being unable to visit nearly as often as they would like, due to long work hours and poor transportation options. I'd definitely go all the time if I could get to the other side of town so easily.

      I just rechecked Doomie's google map of malls he has visited(last updated 7/20/22). And presuming that map is fully updated, no he hasn't gone to those 2 malls yet. I think those 2 would make for interesting videos, though. I hope he also hits Hickory Hollow/Global Mall, IF he can get permission to go inside.

    My partner and I had the same experience with the shoe cleaning guys in this mall. We had somewhere to be, and they literally stopped us and then wouldn't let us leave until they cleaned my shoes. They actually lead me over to clean my shoes without me even agreeing to it. Then when we couldn't pay for the shoe cleaning stuff they were trying to sell (Wouldn't have gotten much use anyway), they continued to be super pushy and aggressive. It was actually kind of scary for me personally...

    Not sure when you visited this mall, but it doesn't look to active. When I saw the title of the video Greenwood Mall, I was thinking about the greenwood mall in Indiana. However the mall in Indiana is a really busy mall still and is way more active than this mall here.

    Haven't been here since 2020 the fye I believe had two locations in the mall the first when I was a kid looked twice the size than the current location that closed or least it looked that way when I was a kid. Can't remember which spot the original FYE was at in the mall been too many years. Also the Spencer's and hallmark stores moved. Where the Hallmark store is now use be a big arcade in that location before they added the new onto the building. Or maybe it was where claires is 🤔The arcade best I remember use to have an entrance to the outside as well. So thinking Hallmark . And restrooms were located in a different spot before the add on... think they were about where Spencer's is now 😅😂also the the chuckies use to be a Home Town Buffet. Use to eat there a lot. And I miss KB Toys! Also the food court use to have an Arby's also remembering a Captain DS but could be wrong about the capitan ds

    It looked like this mall was doing well until you got into that weak wing. Some of those aggressive kiosks were cell phone companies years ago before they moved into their own spaces

    • @wcguy2002
      @wcguy2002 7 місяців тому

      In fairness, that wing has always been the weak wing, even in the 90's when I was a kid. It seemed to always house the second-rate businesses. The first-rate ones wanted to and could afford to be in the mainline. Seems fateful that the Sears was at the end of that wing.
