- In this video we'll take a look at the ATEN StreamLive HD video mixer, talk about what it does and who it's for.
The StreamLive HD UC9020 is a 3-input video mixer with support for 8 layouts including custom graphics and multiple picture-in-picture arrangements. It looks like a great option for specific use cases.

Disclosure: This video is not sponsored, but ATEN did send me this unit to review and I have to return it when I am done.

I purchased this mixer several months ago and ran into a few snags, this by far is the best video explaining this mixer. I wish I have seen this two months ago.
Thanks for this video. I have the ATEM mini but this has the features I wish the mini had. Love that you can put two cameras in the same scene
Found you from Gerald Undone's Discord. Great review man. Pretty solid looking piece of hardware.
Thanks for this. I've been trying to find a real review on this product but couldn't find anything.
Interesting product! Thanks for doing the review.
I’d be interested in a review of the new UC-9040 when you can get your hands on one...the manual is available and it looks like they did add the ability to record without streaming and true 4 camera inputs. However, not sure 8 scrims are enough with 4 inputs. I agree it looks great for presentation with a computer/projector. Thanks, Tomg
Top quality video! 👍
Is this able to stream to a Zoom feed?
Very interesting product. Never came across before. I am currently using an Atem Mini Pro. I like the functions here. Will take a deeper look. Cheers
Thanks! The ATEM Mini Pro is definitely a fantastic device, this is a very different kind of switcher though so it's worth investigating to see if it makes sense for your workflow.
If you had to choose between this and the Atem mini pro which would you choose?
another great video
Great video! How would you create and use title bars with this device?
I wish the ATEM mini did resizing on two inputs too... All in all, the ATEN seems like a relatively "cheap" solution for all in one Presentations recording, even when adding the cost of an iPad, you save on the cost of a PC, I guess.
The fact that there are 2 encoders is a big plus to be safe, but it's still a single point of failure on one device. Still, seems interesting to me.
Will this work with a ptz camera? And how many cameras can you switch between?
Hi Aaron do you think I can use both atem mini pro and this device?
Great video! Looking to compare this with the Yolobox. Does this allow you to save the scenes and load it later?
Thanks for the video. I would love a device that can use the mobile network from an iPad for the streaming. Also, if it could be powered by USB-C it would allow for use in the field
Good review. Thanks for the insights, Aaron. Oh, and: lovely t-shirt 😁
Works with mevo start cams?
Aten is dangerously close to ATEM. I wouldn't wonder if Blackmagic would take action against it trademark-wise.
It turns out ATEN has been around since 1979, and is the parent company of IOGEAR since they launched that brand in 1999. I probably should have added a little history lesson at the start of this video 😂
@@aaronpk I probably still have some ATEN VGA DA's laying around somewhere that are at least 20 years old... Even back then, they made some solid gear - the only knock (at least for the DA's) were the inputs were HD15 male so you most often needed a F-F adapter.
Great. How would you compare this to the atem mini pro?
They are actually quite different products. The ATEM Mini Pro is great cause it's cheaper and more responsive, but this can do some things the ATEM can't.
Still one thing i miss in these kinds of devices.. A way to have a web browser "source" for dynamic graphics.. Does it have this (and it just wasnt mentioned in the video/i missed it)?
It does not, and even if it did, I wouldn't trust a browser in a device like this, browsers are hard enough to get right in regular computers.
Not sure if this is something you covered, but would one of the outputs be usable as a virtual webcam feed similar to the ATEM mini? TYVM.
Unfortunately there's no USB output, so you'd need to use a separate capture card to do that
Aaron Parecki thank you. Good to know. Still looks like a nice piece of gear though. :)
Sounds quite similar to the Epiphan Pearl Mini, but about half the price. Were you using different audio for the test using the ATEN? Sounded different.
I shoulda mentioned that. It was actually the same mic and same Zoom H6, running the H6 line out into the ATEN device. The ATEN does have a built-in compressor so that might explain some of the difference.
I haven't used an Epiphan Pearl Mini myself, but I've watched a lot of videos about it. It's similar in that it's layout based, the the Pearl Mini can do a lot more than this even.
You can definitely do what you want with the slides using just the ATEM Mini, for $600 less than this one. Just have the presenter's slides set up using the usual picture-in-picture, then route their video feed onto a monitor and set up a separate monitor with a white box where you want the presenter's face to go (in a full screen black background). Then their face can just be included as a downstream key by dragging/resizing the window with their video feed until it aligns with the key box on the other monitor.
Im not quite sure I understand what you're suggesting with the external monitor, but unless you attach extra devices to the ATEM Mini you can't get it to scale two video sources and overlay on top of another image. I was able to create this layout by using two ATEM Minis however.
have you done a side by side comparison of this ATEN and the ATEM mini ?
i have not, but i might have to now!
@@aaronpk can you show how can we use this streamlive with the atem mini pro?
Aaron, please do a side by side comparison between the BM ATEM Mini Pro and the ATEN. Looking at both right now, mainly for conferences and occasional streaming for a local non-profit, and want the best bang for the buck as well as some future proof. Generally, two computers for input and one camera. Thank you.
Did you try using the 4K input and create multiple scenes to simulate multiple cameras? I would think that would be a cool use of the 4K input. Thoughts?
oh that's a great idea!
@@aaronpk do you still have the unit? I'd love to see how that works. If it works as I expect it might, I'm definitely going to order one. I may even do that just to test this one idea.
I do still have it for another couple weeks! That sounds like a great video idea
I did not make a note of the website you mentioned because these days that information is included in the description under the video. Alas, not this time. 🙂
which website? I'll add it!
Why would someone purchase this instead of an Atem mini pro?
Is there a built in possibility to show UA-cam comments? Thanks!
Nope nothing built in, you'd have to use one of the hdmi inputs to bring them in from a separate computer screen
I hope it can add wifi connection to it so that we can do outdoor stream with all these amazing functions.\
Does it seem slow on iPAD?
Yeah there's definitely a bit of a lag between tapping stuff on the iPad and having it show up on the device.
Can u add to it an audio mixer?
Yeah! There's a 1/4" input and RCA jacks on the back to run audio in from an external mixer
First :) (Great videos Aaron)
Don’t forget the importance of just SHOWING a good tight shot of the actual product!! I scrubbed through this entire video trying to find a clear shot of just the face of the control panel. I want to SEEEEEE the product. Up close and in focus. And on the screen long enough for me to read everything I need to see in the picture. Lol. Just some friendly viewer feedback.
Thanks for the feedback! I always get self-conscious that I leave b-roll shots on the screen too long.
Aaron Parecki my pleasure! I like to use caps for some words to convey my passionate thoughts and ideas. Lol
I kept wishing that you'd give the product insert shots more time.
Sounds like twice the price for basically the ATEM Mini Pro. And only works with ipad, which is a strange restriction.
Yeah it's definitely got some parallels to the ATEM Mini Pro, but they are pretty different at the end of the day. The ATEM Mini Pro is a great device. If you need to do side by side scaling of two sources, it'll be way easier in this device though.
Interesting product but it's very expensive >___
It's certainly expensive compared to the ATEM Mini, but surprisingly it's on the cheaper side compared to other products in its normal market!
This device is just horrible in so many ways. Just get OBS and Touch Portal and you have the best switcher. Period!
