Good demo. Sad that you don't know more about Nuno. Extreme's III Sides To Every Story is their best album. Extreme's last two albums: Waiting for the Punchline and Saudades de Rock are excellent as well. His solo stuff and with Dramagods and Population One are pretty awesome.
It's Crazy, Just insane how thick the fretboard is, absolutely nuts! were talking like literally 5/16ths, and the complete and utter lack of a heel totally mind blowing!!!!!!! LMAO
Actually, I just found out he's also the musical director on the Rihanna tour, so he's probably getting a few more bucks to get the band in shape and control the sound-checks, etc. Awesome!
Always wondered about this guitar.Great review and answered all of the questions I had about it,mainly how the neck connects to the body.Very cool. Old guy here who has played pretty much every day of his life for the last 35 years.Just discovered your show and I am really enjoying the hell out of it.It was Roy Clark for me as well, and it blew me away that you had a Ibanez LP.Good times!!! I have a cool old Kramer I would like to run by you sometime. Thanks for your efforts, well done! Mike
I have one of these - will have to post a quick vid. I totally personalized the look though! The rails are hot and the floyd is a champ. The guitar is just straight up rock - one knob...3 way pickup switch, and split coil. And.....despite it's simplicity in build, it's really versatile. I love mine!!
Just checked out TH2 after all the hype of it coming out from this channel and wow. I love the Mr. Scary presets, and the Big Stack 80 preset. That one has got to be my favorite.
I listen to you all the time & i need to get a setup like yours i can't believe computer guitar sounds this great!!!! Plus you kick ass rock on dude!!!!
Unbelievable. Thats an awesome looking guitar, I love that natural wood thing over the cheesy bright red guitars you see everywhere. That or flame top or quilted trans blue. Even though you didn't use it much, I thought the neck pickup on that N4 sounded real sweet, a creamy strat kinda tone to it, though from the facial expressions I could tell you prefer the higher gain over the top sounding pickups, heh. Once or twice you made an expression that looked like "not squealy enough for me"
Hey Pixxy, Excellent Video. Love your Playing. Cool Guitar. I had a N2 which is the cheaper model and mine had a coil tap on the tone knob. Thanks Take Care
Thanks!! I mainly use a pentatonic framework and then throw in a few notes from other scales (major, minor, dorian, blues, etc). It's mainly blues-based riffing, but a few interesting "color" notes go a long way.
Thanks! I like the tone, too, but I'm not crazy about the reverse headstock. That neck joint and ebony slab fingerboard were really nice, though. Very different from anything else I've played.
Thanks so much! Very much appreciated. I'm working on something for this year. I know I said that last year, lol, but I'm really making an effort for 2013.
I recently bought this guitar. A few disclaimers I wasn't told about when I bought it. In order to adjust the truss rod, you must REMOVE/take off the whole neck. They didn't mention that when I bought it. Also it has a specially designed Buzz Feiten Tuning System works great, but is recommended by Washburn to have a special $250 guitar tuner to tune the guitar properly. However you can get it pretty close by tuning each strings E note to perfect pitch. The guys playing here has some nice digital presets and is getting a good sound out of the guitar, but playing the guitar live I've had problems with the guitars tone compared to my Music Man. The N4 doesn't seem to cut through and is a bit muddy sounding and not very dynamic. Again, I recently bought the guitar because it played and felt like no other guitar. I'd recommend also getting a good guitar tech to go along with the guitar for maintenance and mastering it's tone.
Just found out another thing about the N4. It comes with a "Bill Lawrence" bridge pickup. I wasn't crazy about the tone and dynamics so I bought a Dimarzio Tone Zone, but it turns out the preexisting pickup is shallow and to install a standard humbucker the guitar needs to be routed out. Just FYI.
I agree, didn't have have the same model, I put nice pick ups in and set up by a pro, sounded great through my Roland cube at home. Played it live, what a let down, no sustain, and not a great tone. I ended up playing my working mim Stratocaster. I should have salvaged the Floyd Rose and my Seymour's but I sold it. Bummer guitar from Washburn.
No going to lie, I talked alot of trash about these N4 guitars. Then I played one. It is a rediculously comfortable and fast playing guitar. Very smooth. sounded very bright and articulate for blues but under gain it just screams! I played the N4 authentic which is the exactly same as the regular N4. The heel is nice unles you prefer palming the neck, because there is nothing to grab onto. I still prefere my prestige EGEN18 Ibanez but this is great axe.
yeahhh, Nuno Bettencourt Sig model!!! FYI: the heel is known as the Stephens' extendedcutaway, they had the same thing on my Washburn cuaway 12 string I had long ago
Nice! I should send out letters to manufacturers and see if they'll send me stuff to review. But then again, that sounds like a lot of work. lol I agree, it was a really nice playing guitar. That slab of ebony was like a friggin' plank!
Hey Steve, Interesting axe. I just got a Yamaha Weddington Custom - has a through neck (laminated) with no heel and an Ebony finger board. Should check em out - some call them the LP killers - interesting. 5 switch settings with series and parallel options
Ha! Talk about full bodied. My custom Strat Kit guitar is Basswood Body (low tone wood), Maple Neck (more warm than bright), and a Duncan Custom Custom (low voiced pickup). On some amps it sounds like the bridge is either a neck pickup, or if I had a tone knob and turned it all the way down. I may replace it with a JB one day, but I like it right now. But yeah, like you said, LOTS of readjusting for me.
I haven't listened to Extreme in years! Nice guitar, only one knob which is interesting for a lead guitarist such as Nuno. Wonder if I remember the chords to More then Words....Rock On.
HA! Go for it! And make sure you take plenty of insurance, in case they go "missing." lol Seriously, though, you got some KILLER axes over there, much nicer than most of mine. Hell, your Kramers alone are just awesome. And you don't need me to demo them, you're doing a much better job than me, Satch. Agreed about TH2. Every time I go back to it, I really love how the amps just kill. They may not have all the features of GR5 or Amplitube, but they got the TONE.
Hey.. thats a nice guitar.. i had both this N4 and a N2 back in the 90´s.. they are pretty decent guitars..but i am not a washburn guy so i traded both those to get a JEM 555 wich i traded 2 weeks later for a 1991 (i think) Gibson Flying V... wich i broke the headstock on and had it glued back on it..it all started with those N2 and N4...
Leaving NO STONE unturned... Busting out the ruler!! Rock on man.. Yeah.. that Ebony slab is HUGE for sure. I haven't seen one of the N4s in a store for MANY MANY years.. are those still in production?
I just picked up a Stephens Extended Cutaway S-22EC. I'll do a video on it soon but it's almost the same guitar, it was built by Stephen Davies in 92 at his custom shop. Seymour Duncan pickups in HSS configuration, Ebony fret board as well. it plays like a dream, super low action but it features a Schaller Floyd rose which is better than the ones on these N4s.
I hope so! It's common for players in a backing band to make between $500 and $1000 per gig, plus touring expenses (hotel, meals). It's certainly not bad money, but not the kind of cash he deserves for his talent.
Agreed! It's a shred monster, for sure. A nice wide neck with very slim thickness. Reminded me of the early Kramers. Yeah, Decadent Dance, I forgot about that one. I agree, Extreme's music has probably run its course. Yeah, bummed about the Pats loss, but the Ravens were the better team that day. With Gronk out and then Ridley going out, we weren't the same team. And terrible clock management at the end of the first half. I was screaming at the TV. They usually have their shit together.
By the looks of the tight grain that N4 looks like Padauk. I have that guitar in the vintage relic spec. Cool guitar and you make it sound great. Too bad those guys giving you copyright notices don't realize that you are selling their guitars and albums.
HA! I had to. It was just so insanely thick, I was curious as to the exact thickness. I don't think they're still in production. I'm pretty sure he scored that one used.
It's amazing that Nuno Bettencourt guitarist from Extreme rocks just and only this guitar whole life with amazing sound and skill. I was tried few Washburn guitars before, and they was so amazing in many aspects although looked simple, but very handsome ...
Stretching takes some time. Like Marten says, check out some videos on it and be sure to stretch from the bridge to the nut. It that doesn't work, see if it's just one string and maybe it's a slipping tuner.
Search for Come On, Come on by Rock Candy. Also the singer (Jose Anes) had a band B4 Rockcandy called Sinful with Nuno Bettencourt on guitar B4 Extreme! Search for Sinful Demo Album 1985. you can find it here on UA-cam. Enjoy!!!!
i'm new to your wacky sorta approach to this guitar anatomy /dissection sorta thing... as a guitar player for a better part of 25+ Yrs now i've noticed more guitar players getting into the software driven stuff .. if possible I would like to see a video of what it is you use.. cause i'm more into direct recordings and find that maybe my next step should be software driven for sound variety
I own about 25 guitars including some Ibanez jems and a fender stratocastor and my washburn n4 blows them all away! I got mine the first year they were made so it doesn't have the tacky n4 sticker on it, and mine has a Kahler Floyd Rose on it!
Hey dude awesome vid just wondering I've been playing guitar for a while but just wondering what sort of scales you use for your solos because they sound awesome just the sort of sound I'm lookin for. Thanks Ozzy.
is it me or is that Stephens cutaway sanded down at the heel for easier thumb insertion? I have an n24 that has the Stephens cutaway but it doesn't look altered or sanded down to make it easier to use. in fact mine is blocky and uncomfortable. however if this is sanded down I'm assuming nuno's probably is too. I will do the same if so.
Hey, can you compare this neck to the Ibanez Wizard neck? I can't get my hands on one of these before buying, but I want something with a hair thicker than the wizard. Help, please?
Oh man that Washburn really screams it seems to me that the lighter the guitar the more computer processing friendly it is and who can forget Decadent Dance.I would think who ever owns the rights to Extreme's music isn't making a whole lot of money.Tough loss up there Steve I had them winning that game it just seems that Brady needs better people around him he can't get it done alone.
Nice review! Just remind me not to lend you any of my guitars. All that twisting, hitting, banging, hard switching over and over😂😂😂. Even the case's latches are crooked!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Looks like a great guitar. Certainly not cheap.... Think you said it was Bobby's ... so wonder if he still has it. Man you're getting some clean freting with that. Clean as in clean playing not clean tone. Tone's great mind you but you're really hitting it clean.
Where exactly do I say "Extreme only made 3 good songs"? I mentioned they had three songs with commercial success (and that's a bit generous), but I'm at a loss as to where I say they "only made 3 good songs."
Nice! That Bill Lawrence bridge pickup is awesome!
Nuno stole my heart & attention, he's literally the total package deal as a guitarist & musician over all.
Phenomenal tones. N4 is one of the top axes for sure. Nuno is a beast. Great playing.
Agreed! It's pretty damn nice and the neck-joint is insane. Really a one-of-a-kind heel.
The N4 is just a bare bones rock machine!! One of the best guitars produced in the past 30 years.
Good demo. Sad that you don't know more about Nuno. Extreme's III Sides To Every Story is their best album. Extreme's last two albums: Waiting for the Punchline and Saudades de Rock are excellent as well. His solo stuff and with Dramagods and Population One are pretty awesome.
Armored Saints new album - Punching The Sky with John Bush is a great one in 2020
Love Extreme's first record!
Nuno is so Underrated when compared to other major guitarists...
DON'T FORGET REST IN PIECE MAN
It's Crazy, Just insane how thick the fretboard is, absolutely nuts! were talking like literally 5/16ths, and the complete and utter lack of a heel totally mind blowing!!!!!!! LMAO

Im 19, and Nuno is the reason why I am still playing guitar :D Epic player, epic guitar, epic band, AMEN!!!
Thanks! I'm loving TH2, too. I think it's the most natural of all the amp simulators I own. Rock on!!
very nice guitar!! Especially the way the neck and the body are joint :O amazing:D
It's got a slightly wider neck than the Ibanez, but it's really thin front-to-back. And that ebony fingerboard is insanely thick!
i would love a hardtail version of this guitar.
bloody fantastic playing too (love your videos :-)
I had one of those once and a great playing axe for sure! The extended cutaway was a nice feature!
haha - just seeing this video. still have that axe? LOVE it!
+The Tone King never mind - you just said it belongs to your bud bobby.
Unbelievable. Thats an awesome looking guitar, I love that natural wood thing over the

Steve I could listen to you jam all day :)
wow pixxy, your Gods gift to guitar lessons
Hey Pixxy,
Excellent Video. Love your Playing.
Cool Guitar. I had a N2 which is the cheaper model and mine had a coil tap on the tone knob.
Thanks
Take Care
Agreed! He really does have monster chops.
Those pickups combination just makes that guitar scream
Thanks!! I mainly use a pentatonic framework and then throw in a few notes from other scales (major, minor, dorian, blues, etc). It's mainly blues-based riffing, but a few interesting "color" notes go a long way.

The guitar is either Alder or Swamp Ash.
More than likely alder. Swamp ash is almost white and has a very noticeable grain that would show
I think that's what he had before, too, the N2. Very slim necks!
I recently bought this guitar. A few disclaimers I wasn't told about when I bought it. In order to adjust the truss rod, you must REMOVE/take off the whole neck. These are some of the best guitars I've ever played back in the days ...the thing i had a problem with was It's tiny . almost 3/4 size
No going to lie, I talked alot of trash about these N4 guitars. Then I played one. It is a rediculously comfortable and fast playing guitar. Pornograffiti is one of the best albums ever PERIOD. Nuno is such a talented guitarist...even if he does play for Rihanna now haha
RHCP rip off band...but excellent tribute to Freddie Mercury in 1991.
Great playing man, pity you couldn't run through the old Extreme riffs, seems everyone else can.
That thing is a friggin monster.
im not religous but i think ur a geetar god! i can only dream of ever playing at this level...love your vids man!
yeahhh, Nuno Bettencourt Sig model!!! FYI: the heel is known as the Stephens' extendedcutaway, they had the same thing on my Washburn cuaway 12 string I had long ago
Thanks! I wonder if this had a tap on it, too? I never checked it.
I'd love to! Though I think we're about 250mi apart. That's a helluva commute!
Nice! I should send out letters to manufacturers and see if they'll send me stuff to review. But then again, that sounds like a lot of work. lol I agree, it was a really nice playing guitar. That slab of ebony was like a friggin' plank!

the bodies of the n4 were made of unfinished alder
We can choose the N4 body from alder or swamp ash. The one on the video is alder. They never came out made of basswood.
YEAH UNFINISHED BASSWOOD WOOD CRACK AND DENT IF YOU SNEEZED ON IT.
I haven't listened to Extreme in years! Nice guitar, only one knob which is interesting for a lead guitarist such as Nuno. Wonder if I remember the chords to More then Words....Rock On.

I'm looking a Washburn 4N but there is no stock in the stores😢
Most excellent my righteous com padre
Leaving NO STONE unturned... Busting out the ruler!! Rock on man.. Yeah.. that Ebony slab is HUGE for sure. I haven't seen one of the N4s in a store for MANY MANY years.. are those still in production?

same bridge pickup as dime i think. looks great
Love these videos, keep up the great work! :D
I loveeeeee my N2! Before I die, I will own an N4.

Extreme is still one of my favorite bands of all time!

HA! I had to. It was just so insanely thick, I was curious as to the exact thickness. I don't think they're still in production. I'm pretty sure he scored that one used.
Interesting! I wonder if that's what he meant when Bobby said his old one was one he made himself. Maybe it was a kit and he just added the N4 decal.
It's amazing that Nuno Bettencourt guitarist from Extreme rocks just and only this guitar whole life with amazing sound and skill. I was tried few Washburn guitars before, and they was so amazing in many aspects although looked simple, but very handsome ...
Awesome as usual Steve! Hey do you have any videos of you performing with a band? It would be cool to see you showing off in a non-demo type way.
Thanks, Leo! More lessons this year, for sure. I forgot I did a little tap thing in this.
Stretching takes some time. Like Marten says, check out some videos on it and be sure to stretch from the bridge to the nut. It that doesn't work, see if it's just one string and maybe it's a slipping tuner.
Correction, Mr. Vai plays that little tapping bit in "Attitude Song". My favorite Vai song.
This guitar used to be a kit guitar back when i was a kid.. It was sold in musicians friends and a Do it Yourself kit. (Before it was a signature)
Enjoy!!!!
fine guitar you got there sir!
Wow! Sounds Killer!!!
u look really happy! Fucxxin Asesome guitar like Nuno
one of the most 'good looking' guitars ever made !
I'm not crazy out the shape, either, but I gotta say it really played nice.
i'm new to your wacky sorta approach to this guitar anatomy /dissection sorta thing... as a guitar player for a better part of 25+ Yrs now i've noticed more guitar players getting into the software driven stuff .. if possible I would like to see a video of what it is you use.. cause i'm more into direct recordings and find that maybe my next step should be software driven for sound variety
awesome cut away..is the best
Where do I say that? I mention they had three songs that had commercial success, but I'm at a loss as to where I say "3 good songs maybe."

The little black letters on the the neck joint on the front of the guitar say the brand of the cutaway joint.
Bill and Ted brought me here. Lol. Damn I want this guitar.
Hey dude awesome vid just wondering I've been playing guitar for a while but just wondering what sort of scales you use for your solos because they sound awesome just the sort of sound I'm lookin for. Thanks Ozzy.
I suggest you stretch the string when you put new ones on, it will help it stay in tune. You can find some tutorials on how to do it on youtube.
Thanks, man!!
Pixxy, what's your opinion of the Washburn N1b affordable nuno model. Read it's alder with graphtech nut.
is it me or is that Stephens cutaway sanded down at the heel for easier thumb insertion? I have an n24 that has the Stephens cutaway but it doesn't look altered or sanded down to make it easier to use. in fact mine is blocky and uncomfortable. however if this is sanded down I'm assuming nuno's probably is too. I will do the same if so.
My local music shop has one, I'm gonna save up and buy it during the summer :D
Delay and Verb are cool, but, DAYUM dude !
One of the smartest guitars of all times! Got 3 of my own, thank you very much!
Nuno Bettencourt was crazy talented.
Nice guitar.
That is a monster tone, I love it. Is that Guitar Rig?
Nice review! Just remind me not to lend you any of my guitars. All that twisting, hitting, banging, hard switching over and over😂😂😂.
Even the case's latches are crooked!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Looks like a great guitar. Certainly not cheap.... Think you said it was Bobby's ... so wonder if he still has it. Man you're getting some clean freting with that. Clean as in clean playing not clean tone. Tone's great mind you but you're really hitting it clean.
Thanks! More on the way! \m/
Seeing him live today
Where exactly do I say "Extreme only made 3 good songs"? I mentioned they had three songs with commercial success (and that's a bit generous), but I'm at a loss as to where I say they "only made 3 good songs."
I've tried it and it didn't come out too well. Plus, I mainly record late at night, so I can't really use the amp then or I'll wake up the family.
Try the Washburn EC-29/EC-36. Those are pretty weird.
