I have a 19 off road. I did a 3 inch bilstein lift and falken tires and it makes a world of difference. The pro only made it up because it had falkens. The stock tires were for numbers in mpg testing lol.
A lot of this is driver experience as well. I have a 19 trd off-road and i can handle better trails that my buddies with a pro can’t. Again, experience
Don’t think you know how much of a difference a front locker makes. I straight up embarrassed lightly modified FJs and Tacomas with drivers that have 7 or more years experience off roading while I was in a stock ZR2 my first time off roading lol
I was that last yota several months ago in my 4runner off-road with running boards and stock street tires. Just adding AT tires and frame sliders makes a world of difference.

The power of the ZR2 is on another level. I owned a 2016 TRD Sport 2 wheel drive 278hp, and currently own 2018 Zr2 4x4 300+ hp. I always had to romp on the accelerator to pass people with with TRD. Zr2 is completely different as the power is there from beginning and just keeps giving to you as you go deeper into the pedal, Love it!

These videos amaze me some times. Why is it that people try to go out off roading in vehicles that don’t have the right kind of tires? I’ve owned 2 Toyota Tacoma 4x4’s and on both of them the very first thing that I did was to ditch the factory tires that are garbage! Had the last truck had at least BF Goodrich T/A KO2’s on it and the driver taken a better line I’m almost 100% positive that his truck would have made it up the hill.
Driver of the white Off-Road was not very good. Other than tires there's no reason the Pro would make it up relatively easily and the Off-Road couldn't do it at all. Curious if he was even in 4 Low with the rear locked.

@@dalephillips8250 Maybe, the new Toyota's havent went ten plus years like the 2nd gen Tacoma's have. I know Chevy in 2020 did a powertrain overhaul and fixed all there problems with the ZR2. I know the Colorado has a boxed frame and is build stronger then the tacoma is.
@@aldomaya13 Both Toyota and Chevy came out with there 3rd gen Tacoma and ZR2 in 2016. Its 2021 almost 2022. The ZR2 had transmission problems in 2016-2019 but they fixed it for 2020-present so now the ZR2 has no issues. The Tacoma still has a automatic transmission problem and an engine problem that still aren't fixed yet. Toyota's reliability is honestly going down while other truck brands are getting better. I'm gonna be trading my 2010 Tacoma TRD off-road in for a Chevy zr2 AEV bison diesel here soon.

I’ll take the Tacoma any day not even close for me , I have a 1.5 inch lift with rezi fox shocks on all 4 corners on my Gen3 automatic TRD OR 4x4 that’s sitting on 32inch tall toyo AT3’s and I have yet to hit a trail with a zr2 boys and not make any of them ? here in AZ trails are TOUGH! The only diff is Colorado zr2 has developed a oil leak 57,000 miles on it ! People are big and bold when they have a warranty let the truck warranty run out AND don’t go trading it in , and you will find out real quick what kinda truck you really have, been in this game for 30 years and I’ve owned several auto repair shops , I know what I’m talking about ! TACOMA IS KING in midsize…

Having a front and rear locker makes all the difference not to mention all-terrain tires or MTZ‘s …. They are pretty much the same until it comes to longevity
I'm starting to like the zr2 more having bigger more aggressive tires plus having that option for both front and rear lockers I think really puts that zr2 above the Tacoma. really nice
I feel that the only way to do a true comparison of vehicle performance and engineering is to outfit all the trucks with the same tires. That way it’s about build, not who’s got the better all terrain. 🤷🏻♂️

I don’t know why, but to me it seems that when people lift IFS systems they look so stiff. The Colorado honked the horn going over a rock, as if the driver whacked his face into the steering wheel.

Love my ZR 2. The locking front and rear dif are the bomb. The transmission programing is in an off road mode all the time and will downshift on a 2 degree down grade two ranges. Pure shit on an icey road.
You cant compare stock highway tires to zr2 offroad tires. that alone without locking the diffs will get it up. LOL also if you are gonna compare them, they need to take the same lines to compare capabilities in a controlled environment. LOL
Both vehicles are very capable...but I would guess the Toyota holds its value significantly better...much more demand / stronger used market for Tacomas
Both trucks are in the same segment and directly compete again each. Not really Chevy’s fault that Toyota hasn’t decided to put a front locker in an off road truck.
They're both trucks aimed at the off-road segment, same price range, and these examples are mostly stock. Pretty poor of Toyota to put in a garbage electronic traction system instead of a proper locker and not even include good tires. Seems like a pretty fair test of stock trucks to me.
@@hconnor3 keep in mind this is Canadian pricing but when you click off the boxes for a block heater and remote locking tailgate an auto TRD PRO is almost 10k dollars more than a ZR2 with Bose and NAV.
Definitely a fair competition, these are both stock vehicles the way their manufactures built them. Maybe Toyota should just try to step up their game a little bit to compete with the competition rather than coasting on their reputation for reliability from 30 years ago.

The only advantage the zr has is front lockers but I’d rather have my truck on the road forever then front lockers. Can’t beat a Toyota
