    This will also trigger alerts on my credit limit as I purchase 8 of something to create an 8-voice monster.

    Amazing video! I've been trying to figure out this module before i buy, couldn't seem to find a good clear video on it. Thanks very much!

    Thank you! Been trying to understand MIDI to CV converters and you are the first person I found actually explain it thoroughly. Do you happen to know if there are any MIDI to CV converters that allow for more than 8 channels?

    Great vid, I don't think I'll be trading in Yarns anytime soon, but that looks like an amazing interface. I especially like that it can power the keystep. Also, this would have been a good opportunity to use the disting as a percussion sampler or clocked looper, but I guess it wouldn't be doing anyone any favors to have a 1 hour video. Looking forward to where you are taking this series next :)

      I was going to say, "This is Yarns on steroids." This video is one I will have to come back to many times, trying to apply it to Yarns. It would be crazy useful if I had any idea how to play 8 note chords. Nearly impossible for me because I usually have a beer in one hand;) It's the first note priority, and then trigger these other things, magic as usual.

    Liked that tune with the sample. Literally sweet : )

    Great teaching skills, I can't afford Eurorack yet, but I'm learning synth functions for sound design from you already!

    What happen in First mode at 5:45 if you release the lower key you pressed first and repress it on a lower key while playing the upper melody? Does it understand that pressing a lower key should trigger the first voice again? Does it act truly duophonic/paraphonic?

    The Polyend Poly's manual officially says: "Please notice that Poly module Gate outputs are 0-12V (the Eurorack norm is
    0-5V)". And then all values are given:
    • 8 Gate Outputs (0-12V)
    • 8 Pitch Outputs (0-12V,V/oct.)
    • 8 Velocity Outputs (0-12V)
    • 8 Modulation Outputs (0-12V,selectable CC message 0-127 using
    DIP switch on the back panel) Poly Module play modes.
    If the Eurorack standard is 0 thru 5 volts, why do they build this thing offside these limits? I have bought it because I've seen youtubers using it on its own within a normal Eurorack. Moreover, the Moog Subsequent 37 is built to Eurorack standard and has 3 CV ins and one gate. Will I destroy it when I connect it to the Poly's outputs?
    I'm heavily confused now and have to consider returning it to the vendor... What I wouldn't like at all...
    Any suggestions or explanations? Thanks beforehand!

      I am by no means an expert, so hopefully someone can give you a more extensive reply, but since eurorack power supplies give +/-12v, any professionally made module should be able to handle those levels. If a module is designed with an input range of +/-5v and receives a signal outside of that range, I think it just clips at 5v. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. I own the Polyend Poly and I've had no problems with it so far, except some interference with another module when connecting USB devices.

    Excellent video. So I suppose that I can sell my Yarns, FH-1 and CV Pal now and replace it with this?

    The FH-2 und the Hermod can also do the chord polyphony. The Hermod doesn't seem to allow any settings for it, whereas the FH-2 is very customizable.

    Can you set it to have, say, 4 voices be drum triggers and 4 to do CV / Gate stuff or is it all one of the other?

    Can the Poly be setup to have the first 4 rows be set to midi channels and the next 4 rows to midi notes, for instance, if you wanted to have 4 note polyphony + 4 percussion from one sequencer/controller
    Also, could you use your app and only the modulation outputs from the Poly while still using the midi channels mode for polyphonic playing modes?

    So, on the channel mode for drum triggers of different notes, do you get a second out for each not to convert midi note velocity to cv for each note? I really need that.

    • @lockyp204
      @lockyp204 6 років тому

      Is it possible to plug in and modulate a digitakt. But then plug in say a linnstrument via the USB port and play a patch with that?

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  6 років тому +1

      luap ekcol: do you mean having 2 MIDI controllers connected at the same time in different ports? I'm not sure if that would work and whether the ports all get merged or if only one is active at a time.

    Does this do anything like oscillator cycling on every note like the korg monopoly or round robin mode on the matriarch? :)

    Menu diving vs dip switches, I like dip switches, just stick them up top;) Don't let functionality take a back seat to aesthetics.

  • @waltersmetak
    @waltersmetak 6 років тому +1

    Sorry if this a rather dumb question - but would this be something like a, say, Expert Sleepers ES-8? Could I integrate, say, VCV with my hardware via the Polyend?

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  6 років тому

      I'm not that familiar with the ES-8 or VCV. But anything that sends MIDI can be used with the Poly. So as long as there's a way for VCV to send MIDI data then you should be able to integrate it. There's no way to send data from the Poly out the other way though, so it would be one way control.

    • @mynmyself
      @mynmyself 6 років тому +1

      Es-8 will convert the signals from VCV into actual CVs you can use in your modular (this could be gates, pitch, velocity and "modwheel", but you could also send lfos, envelopes, etc). I use ES-3 with Reaktor and my eurorack in that way, so is like having extra 8 cv or gate sources I can reprogram everytime I want inside Reaktor. You could do the exact same thing with ES-8 and VCV with the convenient that the ES-8 also offers inputs, so you could send voltages and gates from your hardware inside the computer to control VCV (so for example, trigger VCV Rings Resonator with an actual hardware trigger sequencer).
      The Polyend is great in many ways as it makes it very easy to make actual poly or multitimbral patches that will receive note on/off and pitch info from a digital device. I used to have a Vermona quadmidi, this offered the same although only had 4 voices, and I would use it to sent midi sequences from my MPC and electribe into the modular. Now with ES-3 I can do the same, plus add all the extra modulation I want from Reaktor (or VCV, Silent Way, OScilot, Max/msp, bitwig... almost any modular software), the only problem is I need to use my computer, whereas with something like the Polyend or Vermona quadmidi, I could just go to town with my MPC and eurorack
      Hope this makes any sense... ive decided to give a long answer as I myself struggled with this same stuff a couple years ago

    • @waltersmetak
      @waltersmetak 6 років тому

      Thanks for the reply! Looking for ways to integrate VCV (and VST in general) with hardware - the ES 8 seems to do the trick - expensive module (though necessary) - caught you very fine video and got to curious about integrating it with something like VCV or Softtube

  • @DIGITALSWOON

    it sounds like modular would be better for polyphony with different timbres, but not the other way around; might be harder/more expensive to get more of the same modules if you wanted more of the same timbre? in that case maybe you'd want to just get a nonmodular or semimodular synth?
