From around The Reloaders Network, it seems most people prefer the older version saying that it is more sure with the click. Great comparison and I'm glad to see both are working for you. Nathan
The Reloading Press : Don't have the new one(s) so can't comment about the "shuttle". But I have used both the round and triangular tray holders and much prefer the older round one.........
Great video, I just set up my first of dies for the turret press and I am trying to figure out this primer feed alignment. The key, which isn't mentioned in the instructions, is simply align the ramp of the reciprocating primer ramp with the feeder discharge chute. Seems obvious watching this great video. To the point. Can't thank you enough.
The new safety prime is hands down not even close to as good as the older version with the "U" shaped return spring and in fact the updated 'U' shape return spring with the 2 loops at the corners sucks even worse and thats all they would sell you at Lee for the last 5 years that is untill they stopped even making that and selling it . Since everyone who has owned all of the Lee saftey prime's over the last 20 years is in agreement that the old style with the round tray and the original "U" shaped return spring is the hands down best and since you can no longer get the original return springs (BP3376) the best thing to do is to make one yourself . Its really really easy. You go to the home depot and get an actual spring that is the same diameter wire as the original return spring and you come home with needle nose pliers and a set of wire cutters and you straighten out 3 inches of the spring till its straight then you bend it with the needle nose to the exact shape as the original BP3376 spring and then you cut it with the wire cutters to the exact same shape and it will work AWESOME !!!!!!!!! all you need is to start out with actual "spring steel springs" so it will spring back and forth for you . I tried to use paper clip wire and it was not spring steel and would not spring back and forth . I promise you this WILL WORK !!!!
Nice video! I have the newer version too and the only thing I dislike about it is the fact that it usually takes some shaking of the assembly to get the last two or three primers into the 'shuttle'. Otherwise, works just fine, like all Lee products.
Good question that I honestly can't recall. I know that I had/have risers for my powder measure and so used to it that I didn't even consider removing the riser when I tested the newer primer trays. I'll have to go back and check if the riser is still necessary.
@@ReLoadersBench I have a 4 hole turret press with the red aluminum base. Using an old auto disk measure, the riser is needed, but the auto drum measure can be positioned where it does not hit the primer tray (round kind) without the riser.
Can you get the last couple primers to feed into the shuttle or do you have to use a pipe cleaner? Pipe cleaner works the best for me to help push the primers down. I always have issues with the last 2-3 primers.
I haven't had any issues with having to use a pipe cleaner. On the older, round version of the carrier, the last (just that last one) primer would never feed and I would load that by hand.
Great tip for laying the primer tray on a reloading block thanks!
Biggest improvement that you don't mention are the ears or guides on the bottom of the shuttle. To me that is the number one improvement.

In regards to loading the primers I hold the triangle hopper upside down place it over the primer tray & flip right side up again.
Works very well

Glad my video helped you. Enjoy your press and reloading.

Does this eliminate the need for risers on the auto disk?

@@ReLoadersBench Sounds like a good upgrade then. Thanks
The new ones are no better than the old when it comes to that issue. I always have to place the last two or three by hand.
