Though it was 3 losses with Reeves and 2 wins with Shanahan, John Elway is the only QB to take multiple head coaches to multiple Super Bowl appearances.
Watching John retire broke me. I watched my 1st NFL game at 13 yrs old. Don't ask y so late. But the game I watched was Browns vs Broncos. Playoff game in Cleveland 1986. When I watched Elway play I not only fell in love with football but I instantly became an Elway fan and a life long Bronco. Watching him masterfully orchestrate that 98 yard "The drive" was the hook for me. I went thru 3 horrid SB losses with John when he took 3 teams that had no business being in the SB on his rocket arm and almost single handedly got them to the big game. Unfortunately no 1 man wins a SB and each loss was worse than the 1 before it. Then, after over a decade of waiting and wondering if my favorite player of all-time would get a ring before he was too old, 1997 came. In 1 of the best SB games in history I cried with John as he held up that trophy. Then, when he put icing on it in 98 I knew it was over but having fore-knowledge didn't help when this day came. Again, I cried with John for the 2nd and last time. I miss watching him play. Unfortunately in 2015 the league was going somewhere I couldnt follow. The game is a shadow of what it was and I just can't handle it so I quit in 2015. But John, thank you!! Thanks for giving a beaten and broken kid hope. For helping me find something to be passionate about and something to help me forget the horrible hand I'd been dealt. Thanks to you I became an all state player for my school and found some happiness. Even though I don't watch anymore IM STILL A BRONCO AT HEART AND ALWAYS WILL BE! THANKS JOHN ELWAY ❤🐎
Absolutely. Those who haven't seen Elway owe it to themselves to look up some of his old games. You could never coach a kid to be like John Elway....too much of it was just Godgiven greatness...one of the best arms in history....among the toughest and most durable qbs ever...but above all else, this otherworldly instinct to make his greatest plays when it mattered most.
Grew up in philly. Birds fan my whole Life. But when I was 6, I took two white tee shirts, one my dads size and one mine, and made two homemade jerseys. His was a green number 12, Randall Cunningham. Mine was orange 7. Elway. I just loved him. I was around 12 when john retired. Cried when I watched this live. Broke my heart. When he said he can’t do it physically anymore, I was as crushed as he was. John elway was a super hero to me.
This man really loves the game of football.... Gave me a couple tears, shit... You were the first Bronco I ever met back at the Garts Sports grand opening in 1992 by Aurora Mall Shannon Sharpe was also there that night but my mother worked there and was able to get me in the front of that long ass line, it wrapped around the entire store, I was only 7 years old but I definitely remember shaking your huge hand and getting your autograph on a football card, been a die hard Broncos fan ever since I am now 34 years old and I am very thankful to have witnessed all 3 of our superbowl wins! Thanks John for all the great memories....
The Greatest Arm in the NFL, the Greatest Personality, the Most Heart, and after meeting JOHN ELWAY on May 10th, 2017, I consider John Elway my Friend.
Elway retired at age 38 so he probably could of played another year or so and the Broncos probably could've become to first team to three-peate but again he won back to back super bowls as time was running out on his career so I can see why he made that decision to retire.
@@BroncoJosh Nah, you ain't alone on that thought. Also imagine if we would've beaten Jacksonville in that 1996 playoff game and went on to win SB 31then still won SB's 32 & 33.
I’m definitely in the minority here as I’m glad Elway got his rings and retired at the end of 1998. That way Warner got his title in 1999 (I wish he got a second one in 2001).
Huge patriots fan but i have so much respect for the Denver Broncos and this is gonna be Tom but Age catches up and i think were seeing it again now with Tom. You did great John! You besides Tom their is no qb id rather want to lead my patriots you are a true hero! I am gonna miss Tom too! It's ok to hang it up !
Mr. John Elway played 16 years in the NFL (1983-1998). I'm an original Washington Redskins fan, but I was upset to witness this man retire. I wanted him to play for at least two (2) more years to potentially be the first team in NFL history to win three straight super bowls.
If you are not a Broncos fan, you have to respect the way he played the game! If you are a Broncos fan, damn we had one of the truly greatest football players ever
I don't like that Pat Bowlen's intro was cut, because it provided the context for how John opened the press conference. Pat brought up the story of how John's car got towed, and John was just filling in the details.
The classic press conference playlist is not complete w/o the greatest press conference maybe in history & certainly done entirely on an overhead projector: Al Davis firing Lane Kiffin
Damn. Both Peyton Manning and John Elway have shit tons in common. They both had something to do with the Colts and Broncos. They each won their final games as a Superbowl against an NFC South team, both of which they were the visitor. They each have been blown out in a Superbowl by an NFC West team, whilst they were the home team. They both blew a 10 point lead in the Superbowl.
What if he had played in 1999? I still think about it. Could the broncos had three peated? That TD Injury would've never happened Elway was still a great qb coming off a super bowl mvp .
Wish he would have went for a 3 peat.. I think he had a season or 2 left in the tank.. Peyton Manning on the other hand was definitely on his last leg when they beat the Panthers
Mad respect for John Elway. One of the few guys to end his career on the perfect note.
he got an new car for SBXXXIII MVP
Only little girls cry like babies, I don't cry, what's his fuckin' problem......
onefoot7 ok tough guy
Heard he was an a-hole and racist. He looks like one. And I don't use the r-word lightly
🏆🐴
The only guy who won the Superbowl as a player and as a GM.
Salia Berthe and appearences, 5 as a player, 2+ as a gm

I'm not a Broncos fan but I remember rooting for him to win those Super Bowls. Glad he went out on top.
and got a new car for his SB XXXIII MVP efforts
Same here
You gotta root for the really great ones. Otherwise you're just not a fan of the game. This man earned that kind of respect. Chiefs fan btw.
Lol. Good for you. I was too young but I would have rooted for BF
@@CorruptedErtai Same can be said about Brady. Otherwise you're just a hater and not a fan of the game
John Elway was my hero growing up. Greatest QB I ever saw.

That was a tough day. It's hard watching your childhood hero walk away from the game that you both love so much.
The best QB in the history of the Denver Broncos....missing you
Mad respect for Elway. My favorite qb of all time!!!!!
Chiefs fan here he was before my time but you can tell he loved the game. Much respect for this man.
Raiders fan here…. Yes you can tell he as mad love for the game. Much respect to him!

From Philly...52 now
Elway is the goat...my favorite player growing up
Made the Broncos my second team
This day hurt
The man, The myth, The legend. (Otherwise known as the Helicopter Man)
Legend. Loved watching him,Favre, cunningham, and Culpepper growing up.
I saw Favre's last second TD pass to Corey bradford the last time Cunningham came to Lambeau go
One of the best QBs of all time. I'd put him in my top 5 or 6 for sure. In terms of absolute raw talent he's probably # 1 or 2 though.
Diehard Bears fan here, but John has always been my favorite QB of all-time. Class act, and a hell of a player.
Thats funny cause I'm a bronco fan and Walter Peyton is my fav all time RB
I'm glad he's still around Denver. The Broncos would be worse than they already are if he wasn't around.
My life was so much more fun during the Elway era and the original Mile High Stadium. #7 will ALWAYS be my football hero.
Never been a broncos fan but a fan of the great John Elway
Even as a Steelers fan I’ve always loved Elway, truly the 🐐

Cool memory man.
This is heartbreaking. Leaving the game is never easy, whether it’s high school, college or the NFL. This man is a hero of mine
#7!!!!! Let's go Broncos during the good and bad times v.v 😂😂
Remember watching this. When he said he couldn’t do it physically anymore, I choked up. My first sports hero.
That is tough. Your mind says you can do it but your body says it’s time to quit and enjoy life.
The best I've ever seen as an individual talent at qb.I consider myself blessed to be a Denver Broncos fan.
How I miss John Elway and Pat Bowlen. Class acts for that organization.
My favorite football player of all time. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh but Elway was the reason I’m a Broncos fan.
Neil O Donnell probably wouldn't have blamed you
@@dahc2035 I just can’t go against it lol

I remember watching this live and shedding a manly tear or two.
A class act, that John Elway.
The best of all time
There are so many voice cracks in this video
He really loved the journey
The Greatest Arm in the NFL, the Greatest Personality, the Most Heart, and after meeting JOHN ELWAY on May 10th, 2017, I consider John Elway my Friend.
Elway, the best! Classy man with values solid as a rocky mountain granite!
This was funny and sad at the same time
I followed Elway's career from start to finish. Oh my, what a terrific ride! And it ended with not one, but two Super Bowl wins.
the emotions are unreal wow! never seen this
Legends never give up
Perhaps the strongest arm to ever throw a football.
Everyone get to the CHOPPAH! I was too young to understand or remember his final seasons but what a terrific person!
That play I will never forget
I'm a packers fan
What a play by 7 what a play
Its just such a great sport and these men made it this way.. Thank you
I remember watching a special about John that came on after the Super Bowl.
It was definitely enjoyable! 😁
We love you Johnny

Amen. I've always said we could've possibly 3-peated if he'd came back for just one more season.

Wow the best quarterback ever to play football hands down...the end!
God bless you and your family. I remember this growing up & it hit me hard.
I'm glad an thankful to say john elway is my favorite qb of all time
To go out on a super bowl win is the only way to go
John is a good comedian
Gah he held this thing down with humor even through his so obvious torment and sorrow that he can’t play the game he loves so much.

John Elway best quarterback of Denver Broncos from 1983 through 1993 era
Jeffery Robertson I’d say best Broncos QB of all time, he’s their franchise 🐐
The best quarterback of all time GO BRONCOS

Fitting that Elway's horse teeth smile ended up in Denver,
There will never be another QB like him. His raw talent and athleticism were freakish. I’m glad he didn’t play for the Colts!
The man who denied a Browns' Super Bowl three times, now they have the revenge.
Lol
Shannon. TD .ROMERO!!!!! Manning the entire line!!!
ABSOLUTELY UNSTOPPABLE
ABSOLUTELY THE DREAM TEAM!! 🌹.
I wish you all well.

Theres no other QB I would rather have than #7!!!
This man is trying to fight retirement it was hard for him to do this his body couldn't do it anymore and he retired a 2 time superbowl champion
Other than John Elway Not a lot of players can say that they’ve ended their career after winning back to back super bowls.
Did people just age worse back in the day? Elway looks like a senior here in his late 30's while Brady still looks like a young man in his 40's.

He could continue playing. Brady won his 6th ring at 41 years!
You mean brady's defense?
The Broncos defense won Superbowl 50!
Elway played his entire career when pro football was pro football. Before the new "cry baby" rules.
