It was literally impossible for Parasite to not win this category. It was the only foreign film nominated for Best Picture, meaning it was the best out of the nominees here.
It's really crazy that this was the first South Korean film nominated. The amount of well recognized and respected movies that have come out of SK in the last 2 decades is quite a bit.
In my opinion the success of this film at Oscars not only overwhelm South Korea, also the whole Asian film industry. You can see every Asian face in the audience showing how they are proud of this film.

Miracle in cell no.7 is originally a South Korean movie, the Turkish remake has the exact same plot as the Korean one. If you were touched by the Turkish version, you’ll be touched (might also bawl your eyes out) by the Korean one as well.

We all knew that Pain and Glory would have won in a very deserved way, but when Parasite arrived this changed and South Korea would be celebrating in a big way... That is so, the victory for Original Screenplay was well deserved, nobody saw the Director win coming and Best Film less so but it was an incredible surprise
I wasn't expecting anything different. I absolutely love "Parasite". It immediately became one of my new favorite movies when I watched it on the theater last year.
