At the very beginning I thought you were going for La Campanella all the way, haha. Great comparison! The short STACCATO notes on the Modern D sound so thumpingly thrilling!!!
@@plugmon It's very inspiring to both practice and perform on this one! I'm preparing for my next performance using this piano VST. I recently was able to play a few moments on the piano I'll be playing, in the hall I'll be performing. I do have to say, Modern D responds and sounds very much like that piano. That really says a lot about its capability.
@@kaisfp The response of Modern U is absolutely excellent. Of course the dynamic ranges are rather different between D and U (as it should be: a Steinway D and Yamaha U3 are of course rather different beasties).
Wow, you own a real Ravenscroft? I’m so jealous! I did feel the lightness in the body when comparing, but I think there are situations where that light sound would really shine✨
I just picked up the Steinway D, I must say, I was veeery hesitant. I own some other vilabs pianos, The Ravenscroft among them, and feel like those instruments did not live up to their hype. That said, the Steinway D is truly one of THE BEST vst Pianos that I have EVER heard/played. Its sound and feel/touch to sound is absolutely inspiring in every way, it begs you to continue playing. Many instruments require a certain amount of “work” to make those instruments sing. Not this one! Get this one before the price goes up. I cannot imagine how/why you would be anything but inspired by adding this library to your arsenal.
"SING" is a very fitting expression! I agree. The response to touch is truly outstanding, likely due to the well-designed velocity response and release samples. It’s a rare library that makes you turn on your keyboard not because you want to play the piano, but because you want to hear the sound.
I have Ravenscroft and one can adjust so many parameters to get the tone and dynamics one requires for any kind of music. I am assuming one can do similar adjustments to the other pianos as well. You can't go wrong with any of these.
Interesting comparison… Modern D is great, I’ve played it for a week or so now, but I think I still prefer the Garritan CFX, both as timbre and playability.
I’m using the Korg SV-1, which features a real weighted hammer action. However, it’s true that in this experiment, the velocity only reached around 89% even at the strongest point. This comes from both the characteristics of the keyboard and my playing.
Thank you so much for this! A truly helpful comparison.

Exactly! I found True Keys to be already beautiful enough, but then when I listen to Modern D... boom!💥 It's mind-blowing, whole another level🥺

If you have the Modern U too,
then how is the touch / velocity response of the Modern D compared to the Modern U?
Thank you.
@@kaisfp I don't own Modern U

thank you for this comparison !
Excellent examples! Merci !
Shit (reaches for credit card). The low end on the Modern D is stellar.
thank you...very interesting comparison...
Ravenscroft is an excellent piano (I own it), but compared with Steinway you can notice less body in each note. Thank you for your comparison

Is the touch/response better compared to the Modern U?
Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Steinway D, MODERN D Is incredible. I love this
What DAW software are you using?
It's Bitwig Studio!❤

@@keyboardtek Ah! That's certainly a good point. It would be interesting to experiment with Modern D and Ravenscroft imitating each other's sounds.

bravo!
was this played on a synth type keyboard? Doesn't feel like it was a weighted action to me...velocity sounds limited.

Ummm so this video just showed me that I've been sleep on the American Grand!!!!!!!!! I already have Ravenscroft
