  • The spin is the most important of the 3 factors in Table Tennis (Spin, Speed, and Power). The main difference between a professional player and the amateur player is the "How to increase more spin in his table tennis stroke". Coach EmRatThich explains to you the secret of the technique "how to getting more spin on your serve, on your forehand topspin". Using the Chinese philosophy about table tennis, the quality of your shots can increase dramatically.

    *Should you do a video where you explain chinese body training. I've seen some clip where they train, for example rope jumping, or stretching, or elastic for the shoulders, tool for trunk/hip etc...*

    Boxers calls this the kinetic chain, starting from your feet, hips, trunk rotation, that drives a punch. This is the very same type of thing. With the addition of wrist snap on impact. Tremendous work, thank you!

    • @MikaBeeF
      @MikaBeeF 2 роки тому +1

      On a high level boxers also incorporate some kind of wrist snap with certain techniques no? (just my unqualified imagination speaking)

    • @cldavis33
      @cldavis33 2 роки тому

      @@MikaBeeF The wrist is very heavily taped, so not in this case for boxers. However - exactly same Kinetic Chain as you describe very well. Same for tennis, baseball, etc. Table tennis is quite a challenge for me however to try to minimize the arms motions.

    Hello Couch, i've been following your videos for a while (thanks a lot for them) and i'd like to as for a video about tips for upgrading the reading of the ball's spin, i have problems when people varies the amount of spin of their shots with very similar movements during the game or in the service. I understand the physics of the ball including gravity, draft and Magnus forces but it is kinda hard to note the subtle changes in high speeds. Thanks again and greetings form Bogotá, Colombia (we speak spanish here).

    yes, it's how we proceed in taijiquan too. slow careful going at first, and then we accelerate more and more until the acceleration is like an explosion using power gently and easily via long jin it won't hurt them, medium jin hurts/disrupts or short jin does the same but chronically with little physical movement with the effects being more pronounced and immediate too.

    Hi coach. I adapt my stroke to the "power from ground" technique but it only works when i have the right position. It works really well if i stand right. The ball literaly shoots out of my paddle even if i dont use any power.
    I have only startet tabletennis because of my crutiate ligament tear(because i can play a bit without running), but now i can run again and i want to know how to get footwork like the chinese players. I was pre injury pretty fast but i never learned the right technique to move around the table because i havent played tabletennis there.
    I have played basketball before my injury so i am very good at doing defensive slides. Is this movement similar. You slide and not jump though. Also what kind of drills could i do to get the feeling for footwork best?

    Reading the article on coaching.com. "To learn to graze the ball, just toss one up and graze it with your racket, making it spin." Not too sure what to do here. Please elaborate the meaning of grazing the ball.

    • @pingsunday
      @pingsunday  7 років тому

      +tagr001 very good question. Grazing the ball is the action you contact the ball at very high speed. You can do it yourself. Toss the ball. Hold your racket horizontally. And hit the ball very fast when the ball about touches the racket.

  • @edson754

    What is the difference between acceleration and speed?

    • @kenji2787
      @kenji2787 Рік тому

      Speed is how fast your paddle is traveling. Acceleration is how fast your paddle speed increasing over a period of time.
      For example, you swing your bat very fast and reach top of speed (say 60m/s) before you contact the ball. Your speed is always 60m/s and your acceleration is zero from the point of contact to the point of the ball leaving because your speed did not change.
      My guess is if the rubber hits the ball at very high speed, it won’t stick for long, but if the speed increases only happens after touching, then the speed of the swing can “catch up” to the speed of the ball leaving for a longer contact. Of course, I’m just BSing but it doesn’t matter. Coach says to accelerate only upon impact, then you accelerate on impact because in spin we trust.

  • @takebackthenight4390
    @takebackthenight4390 7 років тому

    Coach, does a bat make a significant difference in the amount of spin?
    I have TG3 and a cheap dawei bat but I could still produce quite a lot of spin. Hence, I was wondering a more expensive bat will spin faster?

    • @pingsunday
      @pingsunday  7 років тому +2

      Yes. The quality of the wood in the cheap bat is not good, so it won't transfer all of your power to the ball.
      You can spin the ball because of your technique. But I think you should find a better bat, it will give your more "crisp" feel or "sharp" feel.

    Hi Emratthich, i have a question about my bat. I'm a player from Sweden and after watching your videos i have realised the importance of a slower bat when learning technique. I had a allround very slow blade when i played last year and i had learnt to forehand loop really well, but i didn't learn how to backhand loop. So i bought a "Yasaka ma lin extra offensive" bat with "Tenergy 05 fx" on FH and "Bluefire M2" on BH. I'm now trying to learn how to BH loop correctly but i feel it might be harder to learn with this faster bat than it has to be. So my question to you is should i stick with the bat i have now and get used to it, or should i buy a slower blade and perhaps learn the technique faster? I believe you shouldn't switch equipment very often and i've only played with my "Yasaka ma lin extra off" for 3-4 months. Thanks!

    • @pingsunday
      @pingsunday  7 років тому +2

      You can watch my previous videos. The rule of thumb before changing the blade is: Stick with it at least 6 month, master it, change only when you can't make the ball faster with a full gesture. If you are still in the learning phase, stick with slower blade. For BH learning, stick with allround blade !

      Im still learning my BH technique but im already using a pretty fast blade, and ive only used this blade for 3 months. Wouldn't it be bad now to go back to a slower blade? Shouldn't i get used to this faster blade and train technique with it? Thanks :)

      That's the point, top players can work up the ball with a fast blade, beginners or intermediate level players can't. They are not fast enough for doing correct brushing motion during very short dwell time, so they just hit or push the ball getting very low and flat trajectory. So you should learn how to brush the ball with strong acceleration almost screwing it into your opponent's side of the table and only after mastering stable looping you can change your blade

      neroma they are advanced that's why. When you get advance you could use a fast blade.

      Thanks guys , was just a rhetorical question , because I was annoyed that European players are presented here like "don't do like them" thing. Myself , I am using a Primorac Carbon blade with a Andro Rasant Powergrip and I am creating plenty of spin ...

    Hi EmRatThich is there a Chinese technique for maintaining a calm focus, even when you are losing? I see the Chinese players talk to themselves very quiet when they make mistakes. Then they mentally reset for the next point. Do coaches train them in the mental game?

      +animaysh yes. Its mental training. Very important at high level. I will show you in my next video

    The science isn't exactly correct in the article. There is no physically possible way for the advanced players to be hitting the ball at the same speed as the intermediate players and produce a faster ball. Period. They have to have calculated the speed at impact wrong. The principle is still true though, if you have faster acceleration, then the middle of your swing (where you should be contacting the ball) will have a higher speed

      I thought about this, too. Yes, the contact speed could be the same, but only if the pro player starts later (or the amateur player starts earlier). But that's not clear in any of the articles.
