RIP John Madden. Just by coincidence, at Super Bowl XXXVI, U2 performed at halftime, it was John's last game on FOX and with Pat Summerall, but Adam Vinatieri did not pull a Hewson and instead hit the game winner.
U2 is my oldest love in music. Bono's voice, Edge's great sound and guitar playing and the solid and original spine of the band with Larry and Adam who are always forgotten... Just one of the best bands still active that never changed a band member and that was never afraid to take chances. I would love your input on our cover of their great Ordinary Love song. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' : ua-cam.com/video/yiUkR6YUNgU/v-deo.html
Yikes, your comment reminded me of reality. I grew up with U2 as the Joshua stuff then Achtung and even Zooropa and Pop. I still think of songs like this one as "U2s newer stuff" for some reason. When I was growing up listening to the radio with my dad in his car, songs that were 20 years old were referred to as "oldies!"
I did something stupid as a kid in the 70s that defined me all through High Scholl and beyond, it took years and years to mentally overcome this single action. This song really helped me get through some tough times. No I did not kill or seriously harm someone, just something that kids will label and define another kid by
Remember spending the summer of 2001 in America when this video was on MTV every day. Feeling very nostalgic, I was wondering before why the European version was on UA-cam but not this one.
I REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS BACK WHEN RADIO AND MTV PLAYED THIS U2 SONG IN THE SUMMER OF 2001 , THERE WAS DEFINITELY A FEELING OF PEACE AND REDEMPTION AND HOPE AND FREEDOM, BEFORE THE WORLD CHANGED......
Wow... i remember when i use to listen to this song on tv .... now, thanks to your comment i'm realizing i was only 9 years old when that happened... i was only a kid but it brings me the same nostalgia that you feel... Greetings from El Salvador 👋
Love this video- you can be the best at something, but have one off moment, and dwell on it forever...transcends sports, to anything in life. Remind yourself that you’re human, mistakes happen, and find a way to move on.
it’s great to see the creativity of music video directors for creation. I always liked music channels like MTV precisely because of these clips. and again U2 gives us another clip so Good how many others.
Haven't wet all experienced moments like this when something that we would normally perform effortlessly - as the player did at the end, as an old man - blew up in our faces in a very public setting? It happens to everyone, and it's excruciating. Then there's the dawning realization that the moment can't be rewound and attempted again. It'll instead follow you round like a tail until you can work your way through it. Great video concept to illustrate this crushing fact of life. And filmed in our Houston Astrodome. Still standing. But waiting for rescue. Spent many many evenings there watching baseball.
I've often thought that man at the end lived a life, maybe not the one he expected, but a reasonable one. He delivered mail. A respectable job which likely allowed a comfortable middle class life, with kids, a home, etc. When my son was young, he thought the mail carrier was the coolest person ever. This guy might have been that, "hero," to many kids. The point is, he goes in, makes the kick, and walks away. He could have done it then. He can still do it now. It was just a moment. An aberration. But, who can say what his life would have been had he made it. Ultimately, it was a moment, and it passed. I think he ultimately realized there was a whole lot more living to be done than just that moment, and he could have spent all of it stuck THERE. But, he didn't. Edit: I'm basically agreeing with you. Even more edit: He could have made the kick, been injured in the off-season, and still never played football again. He still could have got stuck in that moment...as the highlight of his life...the video could still play out the same with him being the hero in the moment. His later realization there is more to life than any given moment.
Just amazing how many easter eggs has this video!! just my favorite...And the song just awesome...
Saludos.
Always loved the gridiron football theme for this video. John Madden is great as always, especially with The Troubles allegorical analogy. Thanks for the great message, music, and video U2 Fu!
Ty to my mum and U2 for saving my life!!! This song has stopped me from killing myself many times!!!!! This song helps me in my worst times...my darkest days...like the ending of the song says And if, and if the night runs over And if the day won't last And if your way should falter Along the stony pass It's just a moment, this time will pass

This was fun, I still have the DVD of the best of 1990-2000 and seeing this at random threw me for a loop.
This song got me and my family thru a tough time, I love how the did this to a sports analogy!

Edge slipping on a nacho makes this! As well as Larry's triumphant fist jab ... but the mailman making the kick is the best!

I'm not afraid
Of anything in this world
There's nothing you can throw at me
That I haven't already heard
I'm just trying to find
A decent melody
A song that I can sing
In my own company
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And now you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
I will not forsake
The colors that you bring
The nights you filled with fireworks
They left you with nothing
I am still enchanted
By the light you brought to me
I listen through your ears
Through your eyes I can see
You are such a fool
To worry like you do.
Oh I know it's tough
And you can never get enough
Of what you don't really need now
My, oh my
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Oh love, look at you now
You've got yourself stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
I was unconscious, half asleep
The water is warm 'til you discover how deep
I wasn't jumping, for me it was a fall
It's a long way down, to nothing at all
You've got to get yourself together
You've got stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
Don't say that later will be better
Now you're stuck in a moment
And you can't get out of it
And if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if your way should falter
Along the stony paths
And if, and if the night runs over
And if, the day won't last
And if your way should falter
Along this stony paths
It's just a moment
This time will pass
