I was in Kyoto yesterday for coming of age and it was fantastic! I love how every one is so unique!
Where in kyoto and what do they do there?
@@OoiYunKaium same in the video?
I was in Yokohama during coming of age day and they were absolutely gorgeous. They were all at the water getting photos taken, having fun with friends and probably strangers too.
Seijin no hi (coming of age day) is a special celebratory day for every young man and woman who will/already did turn 20 from the 1st april the prev year to the 1st april of the current year! It's held on the second monday of every jan, this year it was on the 9th.
It's the year they turn legal and are allowed to drink, etc! Although from this year the age has been/will be lowered to 18, the celebration is still for 20 y/os for now.
The men typically wear traditional clothes, or more commonly suits nowadays, while the women wear furisode (a type of kimono) where only young/unmarried women can wear! They are easily distinguishable by their sweeping long sleeves as compared to shorter half-sleeves that married/middleaged women wear.
Unfortunately only Japanese citizens/residents will get an official invitation for the morning ceremony indoors where theres a talk by the town mayor etc, but after that, anyone, including foreigners can join in and celebrate outside!
In Kyoto on the 15th jan there will also be an archery competition for people who just celebrated seijin no hi, and for veteran archers, its a sort of traditional event as well dating back centuries! This is getting too long now but there's more info on google 🤣 I researched all these cuz i really wanted to go this year but i was too broke and it was too rushed, so now im planning to go next year instead! Im gonna buy a cheaper furisode too haha. Anyone wanna join?
Oh yes forgot to mention every city/province/town has one! But the biggest are in Tokyo and Kyoto, there are multiple celebration locations in tokyo if im not wrong, not much i can find about kyoto unfortunately...
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Holy carp! Thanks for all the info! I def want to go to one of these! I actually have a furisode, but I’ve never had the chance to wear it > ~ < I have to practice my kitsuke…
Can I join you if ever?

Sewing isn't cheap, hand sewing is hard so you need a sewing machine, fabric, accessories, effort and time. It's not cheap at all.
Holy they look GORGEOUS

Most of them uses rental kimonos 👘. The pass down kimonos 👘 have less colours. Less cheesey and trashy colors. Subtle colors you can tell the difference.
ganda gusto ko magsuot nyan pero yun panlalake
I've been wanting to waer traditional kimono since i was a little girl but was worried if that would be offensive. Is there a certain one that foreigners can wear?
Im japanes is not offensive is good
its ok I see foreigner wear kimono really pretty
レンタルショップとかあります!ぜひ見るだけでもいいのでたのしんでください!!:-)
i don't think it's offensive at all, but it might be better to know in advance that it is a tightly wrapping clothes, so it might be better if you're not wearing it right after you eat. plus, if you want to wear it the traditional way, they might put some towels or stuffing around your body, because they were made to fit body with straight line(寸胴=non-curvy body).
At 1st I thought the straight line silhouette was a little prudish but then I realized "Hey. No-one wants to look like they're walking around outside in a beautiful, silk,7,000 dollar *Bathrobe* all day😊
love the gen z girl, making it contemporary 🤣
you should make a video about earthquakes in japan since i want to go to japan but scared because of earthquakes
Sounds interesting I might give it a try What would you like to know about earthquakes in Japan?
@@japanonyt hmm maybe like places that have a lot of earthquakes or ones you don't feel, and the procedures what to do for it like basic knowledge of it
Feel the fear and do it anyway
@@chiyoru01 The north west has the least and south east has the most. So check out Hokkaido prefecture and Sapporo and avoid Tokyo if you are worried about earthquakes.

This is a somewhat weird question- could foreigners participate in their year of becoming 20?
Live it
Is coming of age day a special age day for all women that age, or is it the special personal birthday of the individual?

Then do so, Japanese people love seeing foreigners wear kimono.
kimono (in now Japanese language)= ancient Chinese dress in ancient Japan (The Chinese emperor named ancient Japan as "東瀛 dong ying & 扶蘇 fusu & 倭wo" in history. As one of the regions of China's power jurisdiction. It is closely related to the Chinese royal family and the official).
kimono (Japanese traditional dress). In history, it has always been called " 吳服Wu Fu" (Japanese kimono shop is also called " Wu fu Store"). " 吳服Wu Fu" means the clothes worn by ancient Chinese (a certain area in ancient China).
Because foreigners do not understand Chinese characters and real Japanese history. Therefore, they will be misled by the preach of modern Japanese culture.
How pathetic when a chinese dog is trying to steal kimono, pooh bear is very sad about you
@@bossmusic7287 Of course, the Japanese are not Chinese. The ancestors of the Japanese are indigenous in ancient Japan.
But before the 13th century. In ancient Japan, the Chinese regime established by Chinese people in the local area. Therefore, Chinese culture naturally appeared in ancient Japan. They have always maintained a relationship with Chinese officials.
"The history of Japan before the 13th" is the history of the Chinese people in ancient Japan. It is a local history written by the Chinese emperor instructed by the Chinese emperor (the same as other Chinese cities).
At that time, in addition to the Chinese people lived in a place in Japan (near the Chinese palace), there were many other indigenous peoples in Japan. These are the ancestors of Japanese people today. They speak Japanese language.
After the 13th century, indigenous (bald hairstyles on the top) invaded Chinese palaces and snatched the materials of local Chinese. Including a large number of Chinese books and Chinese art.
Forced those Chinese elites to join and assist the indigenous (invaders) to continue to develop and maintain Chinese governance methods and Chinese civilization. Some wandering Chinese change their identities and become local Robs/samurai/ninja/monks .... These industries The founders and organization members. Most of them are Chinese.
So in Japan (including Korea and North Vietnam) area , there are a large number of ancient Chinese tombs and Chinese relics unearthed .

Today japan = 日本

Today korea = 韓國
Anceint Nonth Vietnam= 交趾 . (the name set by the Chinese emperor. It is also the name of the historical record)
Today Vietnam = 越南
Anceint Okinawa= 琉球. (the name set by the Chinese emperor. It is also the name of the historical record)
Today Okinawa = 沖繩
@@bossmusic7287 95% of Japanese "traditional" culture comes from ancient Chinese . This is common sense.
Japan has never stopped copying Chinese culture. Including Chinese martial arts culture.
More than 2000 years ago, a large number of Chinese elites and technical personnel sent by Emperor Qin. They moved to ancient Japan (including the ancient Korean Peninsula and ancient North Vietnam). There were also some Chinese nobles and officials who fled to ancient Japan because of the war ...
For example:
Emperor Qin's son. Yang Guifei of the Tang Dynasty. Of course they are not alone. Instead, they arrived in ancient Japan by a team.
These Chinese elites moved to Japan. They are responsible for developing a very primitive place in ancient Japan (backward and lack of resources). Establish a local local regime in the local area. The Chinese emperor named ancient Japan as "東瀛 dong ying & 扶蘇 fusu & 倭wo". As one of the regions of China's power jurisdiction. It is closely related to the Chinese royal family and the official.
For example: 卑彌呼 Himiko. She is the adoptive daughter of the Chinese emperor. She is a Chinese female official position. On behalf of the Chinese emperor, she is responsible for governing Japan. All funds are supported by the Chinese royal family. She knows Chinese Taoist ghosts and magic spells and divination. She is fluent in Chinese language (official language and Han dialect) and Chinese characters......
During the Tang Dynasty, Chinese national strength was more powerful. The navigation technology was stronger. The Chinese emperor sent a fleet to Japan. Some Chinese people followed the fleet and returned to China (there may be a small number of japan's indigenous slaves followed). This is almost 70 years apart. They asked the Tang Emperor to send more Chinese elite teams, high -tech personnel and a large number of Chinese products to go to Japan 倭. This is the " Tang ambassador 遣唐使 "recorded in history. They are ancient Chinese . After that, a large number of Chinese officials, nobles and elites also appeared on ancient Japan 倭 (Today Japan still has many ancient Chinese tombs and unearthed cultural relics ).
Ancient Chinese architects built a Chinese palace in ancient Japan 倭. Exercise China's official governance system. Representing this place (ancient Japan) was occupied by the Chinese.
The Chinese and a large number of Chinese culture naturally appeared in ancient Japan 倭. anicant Japan 倭 in this period. Chinese culture is an explosive growth.
Including : Dragon Totem (representing Chinese imperial power), Chinese characters, Chinese scholars (recorded local history), Chinese architect (Chinese palace), Chinese physician, Chinese monk, Chinese martial artist, Chinese artist (music, painting, calligraphy, chess art, tea culture..........), Chinese growers, various technical personnel in China (cloth, iron, weapons ...), Chinese officers, Chinese coins, a large number of Chinese products and Chinese history books ....... all appeared in ancient Japan.
These are used to use it to the local Chinese nobles and Chinese. They call Japan at that time "China 中國" and "Shenzhou 神州" (the Han people's named beauty to China). They have always been proud of the Chinese identity and the Han family.
At that time in ancient Japan 倭. In addition to the Chinese regime, there are more than 100 indigenous tribes (including Japanese ancestors today). They often attack local Chinese. These contents are recorded in history.
In the 13th century in Japan.
Some of these indigenous people (speaking Japanese language. Hairstyle is bald in the top of the head) occupied the Chinese palace. Killing some senior Chinese officials. Control all Chinese technicians. Forcing them to join the "Japanese 日本人".
And let these Chinese provide Chinese high culture and technology for their rule. Help and continue to develop "Japan 日本", a country that is performed by indigenous people.
These indigenous people re -named this place is "Japan 日本". And protest and provocative to the Chinese royal family.
Local Chinese scholars (forced to become Japanese) use Chinese Chinese characters to create "Japanese characters" that can be suitable for Japanese language.
Later. Chinese emperor Wu Zetian 武則天 knew that China's "倭" was captured and occupied. She instructed officials to modify the ancient Japanese name of history. From then on, in the Chinese history book, the Chinese city "倭" was renamed "Japan日本".
