    Weve done the predator repower on a 60" exmark 3 yrs ago. Not a problem one. Didnt use a spacer plate just drilled new holes. Theres enough adjustments on the belts. Itll run circles around other mowers. Great torque

    So sorry to hear of your fathers passing..... I lost mine in 2002 and my mother in 2009 and it is never easy. As long as you keep them in your heart and mind they will always be with you.

    Sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I'm glad you got along so well. My dad's been gone for so long but I sure miss him. Most of our times were working doing all repairs on our cars or houses tractors , mowers everything. We built houses from the ground up complete plumbing , electric , heating . Hunting and fishing , crabing our fun times growing up was the best times. All that built me into a self sufficient man. And I bet yours wasn't much different . Ill be remembering you and your family , give mom some extra hugs she 'll depend on you my friend . God bless you and you have my condolences, take care of yourself

    Mike, so sorry to see the news about your Dad. A nice tribute though. Prayers will continue your family to adjust to what we call the "new normal" when a loved one passes...it takes time to grieve and adjust.

    Great choice! No need to pay double for a "name" that really isn't any better.

    Mike sorry for your families loss. I know it's tough. On the other hand I just purchased a 2007 40 inch Gravely ztr with 90 hours on it. It was a trade in at a local dealer and I purchased it for not much over his trade in value as it's the end of the season and he was covered up in trade ins.

    Some people do not yet understand that $500 more is a big price to pay for a name engine going into an old piece of machinery. I am wondering if there is a reason other than habit that you set a location from the DRO, drilled then changed tools and tapped, versus drilling all the locations, then changing the tool and doing all the tapping? I find I can locate, or relocate a lot faster than I can change tools then change back. So far, my holes, threads and chamfers all happen in the correct spot.

    • @TheBackyardMachineShop
      @TheBackyardMachineShop  7 років тому

      Thanks for watching. To answer your question I was taught on a mill without a DRO, and I am still more comfortable doing without changing location

    • @weshowe51
      @weshowe51 7 років тому

      Ah, makes sense. I haven't always had a DRO, but I also haven't been doing this as long as you have. If I had to still count turns I would probably also do the same. Thanks for the videos!

    Bad thing on these is when the engine is worn out, the hydro pumps are about worn out, and the hydro drive motors are about worn out too. If they kept the hydro system serviced and changed oil maybe they will be OK. With a blown rod in second engine, its most likely not the case.

    Older Bolens XL tractors had the Tecumseh OH120, OH140,OH160 and OH180 Engine on it that had the Extension shaft. That bolts right up to the 670 predator engine. Did not have to make a Output shaft. Just use one of them. A whole lot cheaper

    I got lucky. Got an exmark quest s34 800 hrs going strong. But got to lookin around and found exmark is using locin motors. Loncin makes predator for the hazzard fraught. The 452 exmark is $1200 the same motor from loncin is 260$ delivered.

    did the swap on a ferris., great engine, it even broke the bolt off that holds the clutch on. hmmmm... shaft needs to really be wider than what it is. that #8 bolt is the toughest to get out when broke. fits in a kawasaki 691 or 725 series spot flawlessly

    I know this is an old thread, but i am swapping a honda gx 690 into my exmark. Did the predator have the same crank snout length ? the honda appears to be longer? can i just get a bushing built to space it out ? did you need to do this on the predator?

    As an old machinist , the time and material used on this job is very expensive. The money you spend , you could have bought another Kohler ,and bolted it on original setup for less money! Must have lot of time and material at your disposal!!!

    Small engines are less than 1000 cc. The biggest Briggs I’ve seen was a Vanguard at 993 cc and the biggest Kohler I think is 999 cc.

    It gets to the point, with all that's wrong with that mower, it might not be worth it. You can find good deals on used commercial mowers in excellent condition if bought at the right time of year and you have ready cash. That's what I did but, I don't have the skills nor tools you have.
