    For those interested in the bit about Miska: Miska was Abyssal, o
    one of the first (but not THE first) made by the Queen of Chaos. It is uncertain if their war made it to Toril, as it ended on Oerth as Pesh. Miska was the second prince of demons, the first slain by the Queen of Chaos to promote Miska whom was her mate at the time. In Miska's absence the Demogorgon, the first abyssal demon made by the Queen of Chaos, took the title of Prince of Demons and opposes the Queen of Chaos. The Vaati, or Wind Dukes, were purely lawful, which is why they opposed the Queen of Chaos, and held an empire spanning many worlds and planes until the war against the Queen of Chaos. She now seeks the object that bound Miska (now known as the rod of seven parts) so thatvshe can free him and restart her war, because ALL demons bowed to Miska and would obey him.

    The “demons" or these ones that existed before the gods the confusion you're having is because most of them hail from the far Realm and as such they predate creation they're from a separate Universe more or less

      The Obyrith came from the reality before the one of that in play when you play DnD. They're not from the far realm. They're all that is left from a dead universe before this one. They're from a different existence and time entirely. The reality they came from, they destroyed. Corrupted and warped it to a point it was destroying itself, and so what is left of them are also the survivors of that dead and entropic cosmos. They make abberations look like kittens.

      Ao is the local manifestation of Io who sprung from the pre-void void, then created the void that everything else came from. The first crystal sphere they made was the one Council of Wyrms is set in, then they went in to make the rest. That’s why the fate of the multiverse is dependent on player success in Council of Wyrms, as when Io returns there next time if Dragons haven’t learned to properly cooperate Io will undo everything, every plane and every sphere. BTW humans were created to give Dragons an enemy so evil and terrible that they’d have to unite to defend against.

    This series is wonderful! But wanted to let you know that the "cosmic" and planar aspects in these creation myths can be researched through old 'Manual of the Planes' books and Planescape Campaign setting. Planescape includes all of the planes and does an incredible job of giving a glimpse of each plane and some of their origins. These aren't mutually exclusive to Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk or whatever because most D&d campaigns take place in the Prime Material Plane. Each Prime Material Plane has their own origins which is separate from various other planes of existence.

    To be more accurate, Lord Ao created and is responsible for the solar system of Realmspace within the crystal sphere that currently holds it. He and potentially countless other over-gods inhabit and oversee solar systems contained within crystal spheres floating within a multi-colored gas called phlogiston. They themselves have a mysterious master (or perhaps masters) that oversees their work, and Ao has a brief conversation with his master at the end of a FR novel.

    Look at it this way: cosmos (orderly creation) is an mote of anomaly within primordial formlesss chaos. The obyriths, and the abyss in general, is primordial chaos' defense mechanism against the intrusion of cosmic creation. The Abyss and demons is basically the primordial formless chaos's immune system tearing a breach into the cosmos, which then needs to be guarded against by cosmos's own immunitary defenses, Baator.

      A very annoying aspect of the 4e core setting is that it borrows gods from other settings, and then deliberately gives them backstories and traits that are not compatible with their original lore. I didn't truly understand this until I read a certain bit of Dragon #372, page 20.
      i.imgur.com/VE1rciC.png
      "The Bane of the core D&D setting is not the same god as the Bane of the Forgotten Realms setting". Similarly, there are two Tharizduns who are not supposed to coexist within the same canon. Yup, not just worlds, but canons.
      Now, I believe the Tharizdun who occasionally visits Toril is the Tharizdun from Greyhawk, whereas that story about creating the Abyss is from the other Tharizdun. I could be wrong, but I think the Abyss in FR lore, including 4e FR lore, does not owe its existence to such an event.

    Part of the reason you're confused about Ao as the creator god is because he's not; Amosdeus and Jazerian are the two creators and Ao likely appeared after the aboleths, which likely came from the Far Realm to the Material Plane shortly after their split. The gods defeated the aboleths, and with the world up for grabs, the primordials and dragons came into being or arose to conquer the planat that used to be the aboleths'. That's my understanding of the early timeline anyway

      Tharizdun is known to the Forgotten Realms, he is just not commonly referred to by that name there:
      Rather, the few followers of Tharizdun mainly follow him under the name of "The Elder Elemental Eye"
      Which in turn is the "leader" of the Princes of Elemental Evil;
      Though Toril has had only "minor issues" with these forces.

    My assumption is the oberiths are cthulu esque old gods that naturally formed in the endless void (well if you know spell jammer lore the void isn't so endless... also it's my belief that the old gods live in the phlogeston, the asteral see between the spheres of existence, and they alway try to break into spheres to distort and destroy spheres).

      yes in some retrospects they are either the same God,or at least similer in position,depending on the the details of which creation story you consult (as there is actually more than one with slight,to moderate differences)
      as they are both credited with similer and even the same feats (including the creation of the Multiverse).

    Thank you for doing this series. It's a really great idea,
    I do have one tip for you, you pause a lot and you take some time to pick up the text while you're searching for the next word. I suggest you write the episode before hand, do a few takes on the speech, and then edit it together to make it more continuous and professional. As a basis, do watch TheManaSource and their MTG Lore Videos, it's pretty much what you're doing but with MTG lore instead of FR.
    Cheers and goog luck

    Good video in general but i need to ask
    How much this still canon? Because THE Dawn war in general is a thing of Nethir vale, not FR,
    (i mean Like the abysm reation story is 100% nethir vale,and 4e, i doubt is the creation myth before it, because Tharizdun not even exist in FR before in 4e, and in 5e it came back to Greyhawk for example..or just the elemental planes being elementa chaos just turned a thing after 4e ,demons being elementals corrupted etc)
    They tried to retcon a lot of it to FR in 4e, but a lot things contradicts 3e lore and 5e don't help explaining what is now canon and what is not

    You need to be careful when talking on this early part of the lore of the Forgotten Realms.
    Much of the information you're drawing on is from 4th Edition, which in turn focused on a completely
    different setting than the Forgotten Realms, and only partially (and very badly) attempted to connect
    the lore of the new setting with the Forgotten Realms.
    A particularly important detail to mention here would be "The Elemental Chaos" which straight-up doesn't exist
    in the Forgotten Realms setting; in that one, the Elemental Planes are ordered up in different elemental sections;
    and the Abyss doesn't have any connection to them at all:
    (The 4th Edition Manual of the Planes explains this, acknowledging the differences between the "Great Wheel"
    cosmology of the Forgotten Realms, versus the "World Axis" cosmology of the new setting of 4th Edition")

    • @gyorgyor7765
      @gyorgyor7765 7 років тому +6

      MadHatterHimself Actually the Elemental Chaos did exist in the 4e realms the Spellplague reshaped the realms cosmology to something a version of the World Axis cosmology, but the Planes in the Astral Sea we're different, such as Astral Domains like the Towers of Night, the House of Nature, Gates of the Moon, and so on.
      In 5e they don't actually tell us completely tell us what the cosmology of the realms looks like, but I think it changed with Sundering, to something resembling 5e default cosmology, but with FR elements like the Fuguitive Plane, but we know that the Shadowfell and Feywild are still their, and that the Plane of Zaggaruxus is somewhere mothballed and run down, but ready to be returned, which means its also likely that Heiropolis is likely to return.

      @bavettesAstartes 7 років тому +4

      A piece of relevant information is that some stories (planescape lore) have the Abyss be 'made' out of something chaotic with a seed of evil. That could just as well be Limbo, because of the elemental and chaotic nature of limbo (all descriptions indicate it is a place where matter, motion and energy run rampant everywhere). And while Oberyths are the ancient lords of the Abyss, the abyssal demons known as Tarna'ri took over somewhat recently (eons ago...), but there ARE older things than the Oberyth, alluding to a 3rd now gone planar realm. Dagon, is the example there. But that is old planescape lore.

    I'd take Cap. Picard as Lawful Good (perhaps even Neutral Good), if you want a real Lawful Neutral I'd put the Sherif Virgil Cole portrayed by Ed Harris in "Appaloosa" and the captain of firefly as Chaotic Neutral (if you want a Neutral good character I'd put Spiderman or The Flash instead) and I wouldn't consider Xenomorphs as no more aligned than "always Neutral" given they are 2 point INT max. aberratios, possibly with the quality to apply their WIS mod. to INT skills and checs pluss their INT penalty (a spetial treit I created to descrive animals with 2 INT points that may look "smarter", such as chips, dolphins, elephants and police dogs) if you want a real Neutral evil Character I'd put the Star Wars Emperor Palpatine. Greetings

    captain picard is neutral good.
    he is very ethical and moral to the best of his abilities. he isn't always lawful. he tends to go rogue when it means doing the RIGHT thing. so he serves as an authority figure but will break rules just to be GOOD. morality trumps legality with him. the new star trek show PICARD really pushes him towards chaotic good more than ever though.
    i don't know who came up with that chart, but picard is blatantly incorrect.
    xenomorph feels chaotic neutral to me though. the rule of order is irrelevant. but it's not evil or good. it just exists on instinct.

    You need to read the forgotten realm books :D
    Time of Troubles aka Avatar series etc.
    I might have gotten this wrong, but from what i know is that 2 of the gods stole a tablet from AO. AO called all of them into a meeting and asked who did it. No one came forward, so he stripped all the gods of their powers turn them to mortals and threw them down on Toril. Some of the gods died for whatever reason, mortals rose to god status, some gods were ressurected etc.
    after Mystra died, the spellplague hit (i think it was Cyric's fault), a healing spell could turn deadly, etc. it wasn't safe to use magic anymore.
    When the war with Many-Arrow started, Tsbrak Xorlorrain wizard was suppose to start "The Darkening", but he was stopped by "some adventures", instead i think it was his Cousin or even Gromph Baenre who made "The Darkening".
    My lore is a bit rusty, but you should definitely read the forgotten realms books

  • @commiec0n721
    @commiec0n721 7 років тому +1

    The Oberiths and the Primordial were probably created by AO's experimentation in his early attempts at creating gods and seeing as those attempts failed and he didn't want to kill either of these experiments(Because I mean, would you kill you child if they didn't turn out how you imagined?). The other planes were probably AO's tries to create a balanced world(like Toril) and when they didn't work out he was like "What the heck, I just leave these here, it's not like they could hurt somebody or anything crazy like that!" This is just my own speculation, not fact, I have no grounds for this information aside from my imagination.
