OOTD is very different from most Dreamcatcher songs. But this feels like going from Piri into Scream, or even just a continuation of elements from previous songs. Dreamcatcher is always evolving, so even if this feels different from other songs, it doesn't feel like it came out of nowhere, this feels like a natural progression.
Took me a few times to get used to OOTD but now I think it’s soo good. I loved Rising because of course I got that Dreamcatcher nostalgic feeling. I had to listen to the chorus to Shatter a couple times too but I love that song too now, especially with the choreo it’s even better. With we are young I mean you can definitely tell it’s a song meant for concerts, but it’s still a good song.🫶
OOTD is one of their best title tracks: i'll never stop repeating that. this is the type of rock music I need more from dreamcatcher. dark rap pop rock, where the guitars and drums aren't shoehorned in, and the metal influence isn't the main genre influence. the music video gives me egotistical model vibes (not calling the members egotistical), in a good way and there's a lot going on both conceptually and musically. it gives me 2010s girly alt rock/pop rock vibes, reminding me of some of my favourite western singers like upsahl and luna aura. it's not formulaic, and although some DC fans think OOTD has a generic sound compared to other present groups, I think it still sounds great and it has longevity. my only problem is how the song is quite short compared to their previous title tracks, and it doesn't have an obvious structure - talking about between the verses, pre-verses and choruses.
Sameeeeeeeeeeeee I still don't understand when people say ootd doesn't sound like dreamcatcher even with my almost dead headphones I can hear the funk rock of the song, the vocal style in some parts are rock style and the people who say it sounds too pop, by god Ootd sounds more rock because of its percussion than Odd eye 😆.
Ok! You and the others insomnia like you have to make up your mind! You tell me that this song is punk rock, others tell me this song is metal, others again stated that this song is heavy metal! On contrary i say that this song is rock but what kind of rock? Not the dreamcatcher kind but the (G)idle kind or the twice kind of rock for me so yeah maybe they do it on porpose or maybe not (to mock the kpop industry) BUT IF the dreamcatcher go this way for long then for me is bye bye
@@cristianbarbala885 In my case I say it's funk because of the contrast of percussion and rhythm that is so marked in the song, I can understand people saying it's punk, but metal (??) ehh yeah it's weird that they come to that conclusion. @@cristianbarbala885I believe the production team stated they were using pop punk rock as the base. But since they are making fun of influencers, social media and current standards it makes sense the sound leans more into what is current sound with the rock fighting to be heard in the background. At least that’s what I got out of it.
Your comment about Dami's mumble in the OOTD rap made me wonder whether she was supposed to be "drunk-rapping" (she is celebrating drunk driving after all). While i truly enjoyed your oddly specific comparison of We Are Young to Silent Night, I think they are really different types of songs, with We Are Young being musically an Abba-esque Europop song, which I guess I liked better than you did. Silent Night stands alone. I am still undecided about OOTD, but I take it on its own terms, and I am very curious about the lore behind it, and where it might be taking us. And if it brings more new fans to Dreamcatcher, that is all to the good.
Dreamcatcher always surprises me, and that's what I like about Dreamcatcher. This song is an example. It's so different from all previous songs that it took me a while to get used to it. But since I listen to many types of music, it wasn't that difficult. Dreamcatchers are an outstanding group, especially when it comes to live singing. I also really like the B-sides of the mini album. The live performances for “Shatter” and “Rising” at Show Case are epic.
It's almost eerie how similar my first reactions and thoughts were identical with yours so I don't have much more input other than for Shatter: I'm definitely never going to vibe with this song as much as I vibe with other Dreamcatcher tracks because I prefer lush choruses and Shatter's chorus is too busy in the opposite direction BUT I really appreciate what they were going for with it. One, the first thought that came to me on first listen was "oh, this is a slap to the face" in the sense of people are either going to say "what the fuck, no thank you" and drop it or they are going to say "thank you, I deserved that, can I have another one". This weirdly fits with the vibe of OOTD so it goes great. But more than that, I love the thought behind the cut off ending. The song uses the Medusa motif for being turned into stone etc. (The comeback showcase actually had a snake intro for it and there was a Medusa bust in the decoration backdrop throughout the talking portions, the photo shoot with the statues is DEFINITELY for this song). So, at the end, they intentionally cut the "I think I turn into the s-" line right there with nothing else so that the final *sound* that happens is like a snake's hissing (at least I think that was what SuA was talking about in their radio appearance at Kiss The Radio). I am losing my shit over that touch. I had already liked the idea of it cutting off to bolster the song's narrative story, but that added detail? Fucking phenomenal. My mythology geek heart flutters.
I had no idea about the greek mythology stuff! I connected it to the statues in their concept photos, but didn't think past that. Definitely appreciate the sentiment behind it, but I agree that I'll never quite connect with it the same way I do some other Dreamcatcher songs
Rising would be the perfect anime soundtrack. For Shatter I instantly thought of multiple league of legends champions and skin lines who would fit this perfectly as a theme song.
Also you are so right. The MV was fantastic. I really wasn't feeling the cgi in the last trilogy so I'm really glad that isn't a permanent style. It didn't really work. I am so so curious about the sound the next comebacks will bring. Last trilogy was them experimenting with the visuals and this one seems to be more focused on the sound. I know they won't let me down
OOTD is much more modern compared to what were used to id say, the last two title tracks have had clear and hard rock influences and this feels much more 90's radio rap to me. i cant say i'm in love with it like i feel for vision BUT i know it will grow on me even if i dont want it to.
a thought i had that maybe you could expand on is maybe if Nmixx did what Gods menu did with the Dududus bridging each section theyre songs wouldve been more digestable to the public and they couldve kept theyre song concept instead of going into a more palatable listen with Love me like this, young dumb stupid, and theyre more recent one.
the issue with we are young is that, unlike a lot of DC's EDM and club songs, it doesn't have any lyrics in the chorus. it might be nice to play at the concert, but DC's dark lyrics carry their songs really well. plus, we are young doesn't sound dark or edgy like the rest of the EP, it sounds very early 2010s pop EDM-ish.
With regards the song (Shatter) Deukae said the song is inspired by Medusa. For your knowledge. Medusa is a gorgeous lady (Human)(she got beautiful hair). She vowed to remain a virgin while she served to goddess Athena with her two sisters. Poseidon fall in love with her so is Medusa. Athena found out and was furious, so she (C.U.R.S.E) her to look ugly by turning the hair to snakes and who ever look into her eyes they turn to stone. Medusa is no villian. She is curse by falling in love.
One of the producers that I saw in the tracklist for We are young is "Kikoi" and is the only producer I saw that was credited for that song only (and the only producer I never heard of). And bcoz of that pretty sure they're one of the main composers for this edm type of song in the first place.
As I had been watching Street Woman Fighter, I feel that the Song “Shatter” is definitely made with the intention of being a dance/performance focused song. That’s my personal take.
Great video as always! (also lowkey waiting for your video when the Ateez album drops. No joke, I've looped the Crazy Form instrumental snippet way too much to be healthy😂)
Subscribed! Like your voice, really like the way you express your thoughts and I pretty much agree with all of your thoughts on the songs (except for Shatter but like. different tastes! which is always okay and expected). Thank you for the video!
I have no idea what I just listened to but I'm obsessed. Like I would never expected something like this from Dreamcatcher but somehow it still fits. I agree with everything you said btw. I think yooyheons parts are my favourites but she usually gets the coolest parts so I'm not surprised. The bsides are actually not my favourites of theirs (but like you said the bar is very high). Rising was cool and I liked it. I thought Shatter would be my favourite song going of the Highlight medley but I'm not fully feeling the chorus. I thought it would be like Whistle were the highlight medley snippet sounds amazing and the full thing will blow my socks clean off. It didn't but I do still like it. Also wtf was We Are Young?? Like I've heard that weird chorus before right????? Sounds almost exactly like some other song. Not kpop tho. I would say something that was popular in europe years ago from the vibe but I could be wrong. My brain is killing me trying to remember. Anyway it sadly sounds pretty dated. OOTD definitely my favourite but I do like parts of Shatter and Rising.
Also Siyeons part at the beginning of OOTD sound super familiar as well. I thiiiink it reminds me of that one kim petras song but also I'm not fully sure. I think you can see I'm kinda going crazy. It adds to the obsession
Okay solved the ootd mystery at least. I was probably thinking of In The Next Life. Doesn't fully sound the same but the combination of the "I'm the...", the voice effect and then Siyeons last line being "but you'll remember me" and the next part in the Kim Petras song being "they'll remember me". I see where my brain made the connection. We Are Young is a harder case bc I'm pretty sure I can't find the answer in my playlist
Nice opine, if Deukae performs Shatter like on their Showcase version,(on their channel) then its fire. More of a visual production than auditory....and somewhat We Are Young falls closer to the same category (live show maybe). The whole album flows I feel and best heard to interrupt study or the mundane ordinaries maybe even join Dami for a 'mumbling' inbibe or two or three. Cheers.
You can delete my comment because i'm going against you (yes, you stated on the begining that these are your thougs but i wanna give you my thougs) for shatter you said that the course talked you don't like it BUT at the end of the OOTD song they talked instead of sing and they talk a lot during all the song too! And would love to tell you why this song is not sound like dreamcatcher at all. Have you listen the oh my god cover? If i tell you that this song reminds me that? Will you belive me??? And yes, i liked that cover BUT that's (G)idle not dreamcatcher! Where is the vocal ability that only dreamcatcher had? I belive that song has so much potential but in the end they only talk or whisper (in english (if i wanna listen that many english words i would stick on the Western market)) for almost all the song. And another thing! If they want to change then it's ok! But what the f hell you make a song like rising? Why are you put rising (on the album order) after OOTD? One last thing is the amount of prasing for dami you made on this video (it's not just you but the rest of the insomnia) like... ok she is cool and all that BUT the dreamcatcher is 7 people... not just dami right? (Maybe is your bias or maybe you wanna tell me that you actually prising the other members too but c'mon)
I'm so happy that we got a Handong era
