It would need a front locking differential to reach the overkill level. 😁 Luxury buyers with outdoorsy aspirations often like to ski. The Toyota /Lexus decision to drop the 40/20/40 second row from the GX, Land Cruiser and 4Runner is inexplicable and frankly indefensible.
Ethan , I am giving you a 🥇 for the title of this video and I will go one step farther. I am old enough to remember when the vast majority of people driving body-on-frame 4X4s were people who actually needed them. Once we accept what a frivolous indulgence 4X4s have become today, the pressure to worry about their ludicrous prices is completely eliminated. 😉
Agreed, unnecessary for most people...But then again, many vehicle purchases dont make much sense (luxury brands as a whole are all strictly irrational purchases). So I have to hand it to Lexus for bringing this hip looking design that stands out in a sea of blobby new crossovers. And I also applaud them for including some traditional interior controls like the PRNDL gearshifter.
Great review. Please stop saying this vehicle is expensive. People pay $90,000 plus for a Ford Bronco Raptor or a Range Rover, both with horrible reliability. This is an excellent value for the money-worth every penny.
I looked at a Rover and told the salesman I had looked at the GX the previous day. He told me that IF you get a Rover make sure you least it for no more than 36mos and rotate them out.
Hers is the thing, Toyota has confirmed that the 24 OT are actually 9.21 GC, because of the EKDSS and beefier off road tires. Car & Driver tester, actually says this, but they also said when they properly measured the GC with laser accuracy, with the exception one section at the front suspension of the cross member,, where their was less than 10 inches of GC. So Lexus Toyota uses conservative numbers and also decided to publish all GX models including the overtrail as 8.6, as default number for GX models for general advertising. Also could to be that since the 24 model is actually already an inch taller, that they are claiming it now in 25? Or is the 25 going to advertise 9.66 and actually be closer to 11 of GC. That would be cool, but Also keep in mind that with adjusting ground clearance you have to make up for articulation adjustments in the EKDSS systems, which lets the 24 model tilt on its side at a very steep angle without tipping. As far as the 3k increase for the OT 25 model, its proper inflation and considering that the 24 Models are still in Build faze for many buyers with deposits and dealers have very little inventor. The 24 used models for sale, in. most dealers are going for over window sticker, so the hype may be down when the 25 models come in, so you may pay 3k more for a 25 OT on the sticker, but its better than 10k over sticker on a 24. Lastly by the way things are looking the 25 models wont be arriving until summer of 25, which is when most 26 models start to come out... LOL!
Being content with my 2014 Corolla with 150K miles and being far removed from a car payment while still getting 35mpg has become a way better feeling than driving some contraption with a large payment that has the capability to cross the Sahara, when I just need to go to/from work and run general errands like most people. I love cars, especially the obscure ones that Ethan reviews, but these overland vehicles and roided out pickups that people drive to an office park or kids to practice just make me laugh. These companies are just appealing to your emotions and trying to trap you with big financial burdens. Work towards freedom, not more unnecessary bs.
Only for the 1958, the other models you can’t get here in oregon, or they seem to be presold, this is just west coast though maybe diff across the country
@@rickper Yeah, I noticed its mostly 1958s that are filled on lots in Oregon. Lilkennytv has shown that, as well as the many Tacos and Tundras with massive discounts there.

The GX550 Overtrail Plus+ is WAY Overkill...! But I have DISCOVERED Very Challenging Terrain at the Mall that require the GX550 Overtrail Plus+'s off road prowess... especially parking in TWO Adjoining Parking spaces so that Lesser Vehicles DO NOT bang my Truck when they open their car doors or Speed Bumps that are located at too close of intervals... eKDSS Please... and the Fantastic 2/3 fold down rear seat... My Wife and Teenage Daughter are Professional Shoppers... Please Don't Say... "On Sale, Discount, or CloseOut...!!!" They LOVE To "BackUp the Truck...!" THANK YOU!!! I’m 6’5” and finally I’ve come across a tall guy doing a vehicle review! I have subscribed!!! I like the GX 550. I like the Overtrail and not for taking off road. In my area some of the streets and roads can be pretty rough, so I like having something that can handle the potholes, ruts and bumps. 🫡💪🏽👍🏽
I'm not a Lexus fan, but boy that's one ugly vehicle. Overkill and just not at all what I think the original Lexus brand was about: Luxury in a quiet way. All these SUV's by Lexus, Cadillac, Buick, Lincoln and such are so stupid and moronic. I hate every one. I'm a Cadillac guy and own two older sedans. One is even a Cimarron which was a re-badged Chevy Cavalier with nicer trim. I think that's more Cadillac than these silly Escalades. I used to be a huge Buick fan. Today there isn't one thing in the Buick line that I'd buy. The fact that so many people keep buying these over-sized SUV's and trucks is just proof that gas prices are way too low.
What do you think of the Lexus GX550 Overtrail+? Perfect spec or overkill?

You hit the nail on the head. Great resale, great brand recognition, and will highly coveted down the road as well.
My buddy just bought a + in green, it's definitely the spec to have. The big wheels on the pavement oriented trim just look goofy imo.

I just got one and I really like it. Might even use it on some trails :).

Amen. I’m in a 2006 with 280,000 and live in a $1.3M house.
I do like this GX though.
That super long nose limits its off road abilities the moment you leave smooth dirt roads.
just cut it.. people been cuttin the nose on these GXs since 2003
These new GXs are hard to get right now, while the Land Cruiser you can just walk in and even pay below sticker

The New 2025 GX overtrail is now $3000 more than previous with 1 inch lift.
😰

LEXUS OFFROAD 👌❤️🔥👍
Was watching another review yesterday for the base GX and it was not great. The Overtrain + would be the one to get.
Thank you!
I appreciate you making note of how dangerous these cars are
Which trail were you driving on?
Some of the dirt roads within Rowher Flat OHV, just north of Los Angeles.
It’s the affordable Japanese G Class version and hardly not many people have it yet so you won’t see yourself coming and going
I really wish the GX was heavy enough to qualify for the tax write off.
Lazlo Bane! 👍
If normal buyer just buy gx premium ekds seystem is not only for off roading and if they buyer doesn’t know ekds forget it 😂

It looks ass cheap ass the LC250 😢 so I just bought a Hilux from 2023.
You understand 'momentum' ? If those hills were so easy, stop using it.
