If you took the Mercedes badge off, and replaced with a Mitsubishi badge and lowered the sticker price to 65k, no one would buy one. They would say it's ugly, cramped, and over priced.
When the leather has a glossy look to it , which means.... it's full of body oils, fabric softener, clothing dies, and environmental dirt /chemicals. You need a leather-safe degreaser WITHOUT conditioner in it to clean those gross seats, doors, dash and steering wheel. Use white microfiber towels. You'll see how gross it is when you clean it....
Can you recommend a proper leather degreaser? My Mazda has shiny seats and I’ve tried Dawn/water and a Griots cleaner, neither of which worked splendidly.
Uric acid causes the glossiness. It's a chemical waste product your body releases when it breaks down purines...which are in alcohol. So if you look at a used car and the steering wheel in particular is super shiny... It means that car was owned by an alcoholic.

The average working class Joe (or Jane) would be well advised to avoid a potential money trap like an eight year old G Wagon. Without a warranty, even the cost of regular maintenance is prohibitive. This is not a vehicle that you bring to your local service station for Bubba to wrench on; these things require highly trained mechanics with very expensive equipment. And even the smallest of their often bespoke replacement parts are eye wateringly expensive. With electrical issues you're looking at well over $200 an hour in diagnostic time alone. Friend of mine is the Head Tech at the local Merc dealership. He says all G Wagons are complete shit. The engines are hand built and all hand built Merc engines (even AMG) are terrible. I am sure that will anger the devout out there.
What are you talking about?? Handbuilt doesn't automatically mean worse. 95% of all engines, regardless of manufacturer have their own "known" little niggles and problems that creep up with age and use, and this twin turbo V8 is no different. Once they're taken care of, it'll run proper for a long time. There's AMG cars with this engine over 3-400k miles. But if we're talking AMG engines specifically, the most reliable ones are the M113 and M113K supercharged V8s from the early to late 2000s. That's why G wagons with those motors command sizeable premiums and are highly sought after in the used market
The original was a military car built in Graz/Austria by Steyr/Puch. The army wanted a offroad vehicle for the higher officers and the german/austrian army used it accordingly. I was stationed at a bigger military training area southeast of Vienna and those cars were not bad offroading, but at least once a week we had to pull out - with our Pinzgauer, who was the basis of the offroad tech - all those guys. First they seldom knew how to drive far from any tarmac and second a G is not a tank ! But yeah, a pretty good car. What Mercedes went on doing to it, is in my opinion a shame. But that`s modern life !😂
At 58K, I still wouldn't want to take it off-road, even if it is six years old. Who needs 550 hp to go grubbing in the dirt or rock-crawling? Can't use it on the highway without getting arrested, either. Better to get something a lot cheaper that can be easily modified to do what you want, is relatively cheap to repair and keep on the road, and is expendable when it rolls down a canyon or tips over. Just watch Matt's Off-road Recovery to see how often that happens. $1100 just to change a thermostat? Seriously? No, thanks.
