I'm a baby bat and this helps me out a lot. London After Midnight is my favorite goth band so far
I saw LAM in Denver in 2008. I was lucky enough to chat with guys after the show. Though, in his raised boots Sean was so tall my neck is still crinked. I have a lot of funny stories from that evening, from the bartender accussing me of under tipping (my eyes just rolled to the back of my neck) to my buddy needing to find a dark alley to releave himself. Yeah, he got lost! lol
London after Midnight is viciously underrated. Selected scenes of the end of the world should be considered one of the best rock albums of the 90's
Underrated ? They're literally one of the most popular bands of the goth scene lmao, when they perform at German festivals every single festivalgoer is there to see them... so like, at least 10000 people.
Hi all! Just wanted to post a quick reminder that these are my top 10 personal favorites rather than being based on popularity or impact. I had to make some tough choices to narrow this to 10 so I’ll find a way to share even more 90’s bands in future videos! 🙂
I will look these up, but I was surprised Switchblade Symphony wasn't mentioned whatsoever
I like Switchblade Symphony but not quite as much as the ones on this list. Picking 10 was tough stuff! The 80’s will be worse 😓
@@CadaverKelly I can't even begin to fathom a top ten list of 80's Goth bands. My list would be like 30 bands long lol.
DJ FACT.50 Same, I have waayyy too many 80’s faves. These lists are always so tough to narrow down but I think more than 10 at once would be a lot to digest for a beginner to goth so I’m going to try my best.
Cringing and Gween I was thinking the same.. overall Good List
what about Sunshine Blind? They're a very overlooked 1990s goth rock band
Agreed! I love them so much and rarely find a fellow fan.
Caroline Blind reply to me in her YB Chanel☺️💓 she's so awesome
Suspira and London After Midnight are definitely deserving of Top 10 status. However, I do agree with your choice for Corpus Delicti as #1🖤
Definitely London After Midnight, too bad that Violent Acts of Beauty was so bad but Psycho Magnet is an absolute classic.
My first goth albums were Serpentine Gallery, Empire of the Vampire, Psychoma? (Diary of Dreams), Psycho Magnet and Bauhaus 1979-1983.
I used to listen to Empire of the Vampire almost everyday when I walked home from school with my Portable CD player hahaha.
I 10000% agree with ur comment
Been waiting for this! I'm trying to secretly watch this at work, don't tell!
love this video series, thanks for giving me bands to check out!
Absolutely perfect vid, list, and you.
Thank you so much for this list! I'm still new to listening to the goth genre and I've noted all of these bands down. Unfortunately, I never heard of them before but I'm going to seek them out. I'm kicking myself for taking so long to get into this style of music (as I'm in my mid-30s now) but I guess better late then never! Subscribed!
I'm loving your channel. It's good to discover some new (old) bands. Nosferatu are by far one of my favourite ever bands and it was good to see Rosetta Stone in there too. There were a few I haven't heard of, so I'm going to give them a listen and expand my musical knowledge. Keep up the good work 🕷🕸
Quality content and great list! :)
Great music!! My go to 90's band is Diary of Dreams. Love your videos.
Awesome list! :)
Wooow faith and the muse is my favorite of all i just love their music
Great video some excellent choices 😀❤️😀
I did not realize Paralysed Age had a new album. One of my favorites as well. Thanks for the info.
Excellent video as always sweetie :-)
Some great choices and as usual you look beautiful xxxx
Love Lycia. Also, I enjoy that there is someone who actually lists bands and actually speaks about the music. Almost like having a comprehensive list of what is actually goth, which I think is very helpful.
Soo glad u did a 90’s goth video! 90’s goth is my absolute favorite
What about Requiem in White? What about Switchblade Symphony? What about Diva Destruction? What about Suspiria? What about Trance to the Sun? What about London After Midnight? What about Love Like Blood? What about---- LOL I can't keep doing this, I'm totally just messing with ya haha. Like I shared with you before, I enjoy the hell out of the 90s Goth era and if I were to do this kind of list, I would have to do SO MANY RE=WRITES because it would be so hard to limit it to 10 bands because I like so many of them, both popular and not so popular. But your list is definitely something I can give two thumbs up to, very nice choices and I really can't argue with any of the picks you went with lol. I think the only band I had not heard of on this list was Gothic Sex so I'll be sure to check them out. Awesome job Kelly and I certainly can't wait to see the 80s :D
Lol! Thanks, Kai 😊
WOW! I feel old! thanks Kelly for this list.
You're so cute and hilarious! That part at 0:30 cracked me up. Thank you for the awesome band suggestions. You made my day! 🙌 Greetings from Bulgaria! 🦇
Delightful, I love finding more bands 💜
No mention of Suspiria, The Merry Thoughts, The Tors Of Dartmoor, Still Patient? The Dreadful Shadows, 13 Candles, Lacrimosa, The Wake, Inkubus Sukubus, London After Midnight etc. Back then I used to run a Gothic label, mail order service and CD shop and I know which bands sold the most at that time.
These are just personal favorites rather than popularity-based. So, I try to do a fair mix of staple bands and bands that don’t get brought up as often.
Cadaver Kelly Fair enough if it's your personal opinion. I used to do something similar myself.
She can't mention them all yk 🙄
Before watching, I thought back to my youth and made my own top 3 list. Surprisingly, only one band was on both our lists (Rosetta Stone). I remember seeing Children on Stun multiple times, and I own a copy of the Faith and the Muse album you showed. But I've never heard of some of the rest.
The two bands on my list that you didn't mention - The Cranes (arguably borderline goth, but I love them), and the US band, Sunshine Blind.
Thanks for including the album Tourniquets by Children on Stun, however Grooving In Green are a split from COS. They feature members from Nephilim , original Children on Stun and Solemn Novena. Are current and are writing their 4th album, last year our 3rd album was released along with two singles. We are getting ready to tour and writing at the moment. Feel free to check us out :)
This was a great video Kelly. I'm not too familiar with a couple of the bands on the list so I'll be sure to check them out. Just a suggestion... It would be great if you could also list the bands in the description so it's easy to look up the names of the bands later without going through the whole video.
Me, I'm going through a London After Midnight obsession lol. I literally haven't listened to any other band for the last two weeks 😆
Pssst... If you like London After Midnight and haven't heard of this band, definitely add Suspiria to your check out list ;D
You have mentioned some of my very favourite bands. 😍😍😍
Awesome choices. I'm glad you mentioned Rosetta Stone, Faith and the Muse, Paralysed Age, and Corpus Delecti. As for my list, it would also definitely include the following:
*I was born in the early 80s, so my exposure to most of said 90s goth bands had started during the mid to late 90s, and early 2000s.
I look forward to your 80s picks.
1. Switchblade Symphony
2. Diva Destruction
3. Miranda Sex Garden (dark/gothic ethereal)
4. The Shroud
5. Mors Syphilitica
6. The Cruxshadows
7. Seraphim Shock
8. London After Midnight
9. Suspiria
10. The Wake
Great picks. Not sure how you could possibly make a top 10 when there was literally hundreds of amazing bands. Great time for concert goers back then!!
Awesome video! Here’s my list of the definitive goth albums of each year in the 90s:
Requiem in White - Requiem in White (1990)
Rosetta Stone - An Eye for the Main Chance (1991)
Paralyzed Age - Christened Child (1992)
Corpus Delecti - Twilight (1993)
Children on Stun - Tourniquets of Loves Desire (1994)
Brotherhood of Pagans - Tales of Vampires (1995)
Lycia - Cold (1996)
Whispers in the Shadow - Laudanum (1997)
Nosferatu - Lord of the Flies (1998)
Inkubus Sukkubus - Wild (1999)
🖤🖤🖤
OMG! I just found out through this video about the new Paralysed Age album...AND I'M FREAKING OUT! I love this band so much!!!
We played a few times with Faith and the Muse (around the time of touring with Eva O and opening for Rozz). Good times
Definitely a really cool era in goth rock. I have had a hard time finding and obtaining actual CD's but I keep on digging. So far discogs and occasionally ebay have been my best bet. Thanks so much for posting this part of music top 10! 👍👻🌙💀
Excellent choice with Corpus Delicti. Love that album. Although my 90s favourite album would be Requiem In White - Of The Want Infinite. Nice to see bands I've never heard of too. Some great recommendations to check out. Thanks
I need to look some of these up! I can't believe baby me didn't just get into these bands as soon as I was born. - Mystic
Lycia are criminally underrated. Their whole discography is amazing and they are still putting excellent records to this day. Most bands struggle to make good comebacks, it's either too corny or lacks the passion from the older days. Honestly, if Lycia had been touring extensively, they would probably have become a giant name. They are more of an album type of band but the recent singles they put out could've easily been goth club hits back in the days and could even be played in regular radio stations these days. Love Lycia forever, I hope one day they will get the praise they deserve.
Love Faith And The Muse, both their soft ethereal material and their heavier / punkier songs like "Sovereign" and "Blessed." You were born the year I graduated -- how did I get so old?
Some great choices there. The good news is that two of these bands - Corpus Delecti and the Nosferatu have reunited in the last few years and are playing shows in Europe.
Damn this is a really hard one for me as I was lucky to run and manage a club, zine, booking agent etc. so I got to meet many bands in the 90's. All your lists are 100% badass but I can't pick and choose as I equally love them all even some of the crappy ones no offense. I'll just say I was so goth I shit bats. lol kidding. Great fun video! Actually Rosetta Stone and The Wake might be my favorite 90's goth band. I actually got those 2 bands first promo CDs from Cleopatra and the rest is history. A++++
A lot of great bands! For me, The Awakening (although the more recent albums are killer), Inkubus Sukkubus, and Age of Heaven are great additions from that time period.
I've been on a heavy 90s goth tear recently (which is how I found this, looking for more bands from the era). Its almost as difficult as the 80s to trim the bands down.
Honourable mentions (or would be on my list) to Dream Disciples, The Horatii, Manuskript, and Passion Play.
I'm gonna listen to Goth music around my babies listening to Gothic Rock, Darkwave, Ethereal Wave, Deathrock, and Coldwave. I don't want them to believe the stereotypes about Goths and also believe that Goth is makeup and fashion 🖤🖤🖤
Omgomgomg!!!!!! You're the sweetest!!!!!!!
Tara!! Thank you for watching and connecting with me 🖤
@Tara Vanflower
She absolutely is. :) Kelly created her channel in a time when many of us needed it. Words can't possibly express this. Cheers!
@CadaverKelly You are wonderful. 🦇🦇🦇🖤❤🖤❤🖤❤
@@CadaverKelly The comment above. :)
@@CadaverKelly i enjoy your videos!
Perfect ! 💜
Humm there is so much amazing bands from that era i would mention Love Like Blood, House Of Usher, Dronning Maud Land, Still Patient all from Germany: Canaan from Italy, Ikon from Australia, The Wake from USA ... (about Garden Of Delight they disbanded in 1997 for a short while until they came back in 2000 and finally disbanded in 2007)
This is your pref and that's awesome, so not meaning to disagree at all. Just wanted to say that, interesting to me, in clubs in the US ~95 to 99 almost none of these were big on the play lists / crowd favorites. I wonder what that says after all this time! I have no contact with the modern goth world, but was a die hard scene kid in the 90s. I miss it!
That was an overall good list Kelly.
the witching hour uk band my fave even they not around but I still die for there music
Invaluable resource for nowadays it's not like I can go read a bunch of reviews and find comps easier. Btw corpus delicti is my favorite for sure jus too good and too goth lol. Thanks Kelly
Oh let me jus drop names of my other faves element, disjecta membra and Ofcourse corpus delicti.
I was born in 1989 and was listening to these by Y2K as well as like other metal bands. Black metal really gets you pumped before a football game. Makes you wanna kill the QB
Some great choices. Nosferatu are touring again. I saw them a few months ago in Leeds and they were on great form :-)
what is your opinion on Evanescence?
Unrelated but love the choker! BAT! (Also love what we do in the shadows tv show :))
Do you like Monica Richard's previous band Strange Boutique?
Corpus Delicti would be in the 'greatest of all time' territory if their discography weren't so short. I don't even know some of your picks, and if you have Corpus Delicti at #1 I must check them out!
You are one of the few women label themselves as "goth" here on youtube who REALLY SPEAKS about MUSIC and not only "about make up and outfit"
Excuse me for my kiddy english but I am not so able in your language, but I really like your knowledge about the music!
😘
This is so fucking fascinating.
What's the intro song? 🖤
Yay the 90’s!!! ( I’m old lol) I would love it if you did more vinyl videos 💕 thanks much ☥
I plan on filming another one soon! The decades series postponed the records series a bit but I’m going to take an inventory of my records by category so I can film some more 😊
@@CadaverKelly yay :-)
Xxxx
So are we lol! :-p
Yeah the 90s was when we were coming up to :-)
Xxxx
Awesome! I will want to spend money, which is fun lol
@@teslagoth9401 oh yes lol :-p
So many of the 90s goth bands had a major influence on our music :-)
I looveeee Nosferatu!! Their debut album is my favorite. My two top songs are “Vampyres Cry” and “Alone”.
PLS THE SONG YOU HAVE ON THE INTRO
I just found out about Nosferatu about two weeks ago, and I fell in love
No Mors Syphilitica?
There are so many different distinctions of Goth now ! Me I like relatively old-school Goth like Midnight Sidicate, 69 Eyes, Porcupine Defense, Alien Sex Fiend's, Atrocity, Mortiis, Nightwish, Sirenia, Swartalf.
just seeing the 69 eyes, nightwish or HIM mentioned anywhere makes me so happy and proud of them
Gothic metal is a different subculture.
Faith and the Muse is a Santa Barbara band (2 hours north of L.A.).
Thanks! Someone had pointed that out when I posted the video and added the correction to the description. That was my bad. Monica Richards is from D.C. so that’s where I made the mistake.
Corpus Delicti is my #1 too!
God, we have so much in common
Are you sure Corpus Delicti formed in the early 90s? They have an EP from 1984 titled the joy of living unless it’s a completely different band with the same name.
That is a different band with the same name. The goth band “Corpus Delicti” formed in the 90’s in France. The band in the 80’s was from LA.
@@CadaverKelly good to know, such a relief having expertise in the Alternative music field. I personally prefer the LA band in this case but still Respect the 90s French Band.
Children on Stun is my favourite 90s band! I'd agree that they're not 100% goth but still great.
Second wave goth rock is love 🖤
no Sunshine Blind?
Cadaver Kelly, Just so we're clear, goth music is about a representation of what an individual feels, NOT about how old you are! ( I AM 10 YEARS OLDER THAN YOU!) But if you feel the way that I do, and you gravitate towards the same kind of music, and expressing yourself through the way that other people know you as..
YOU MIGHT BE A GOTH.
I would have to include Mors Syphilitica... And Requiem in White in the 80s list even tho they lasted till 95 😍😍
JUST PROVES HOW SUBJECTIVE THESE MUSIC LISTS ARE!!
My top 10 90’s goths bands:
1. Malaise
2. Nosferatu
3. The Wake
4. The House of Usher
5. Dreadfull Shadows
6. Rosetta Stone
7. Artica
8. Corpus Delicti
9. Love Like Blood
10. Two Witches
Nineties goth! quite an era!
Kind of surprised The Merry Thoughts or Suspiria didn't even rate a mention as they were huge in goth clubs in the 90s. It is your list so you like what you like.
I may need to make a second video for the 90’s. There were so many to choose from so I just had to make some tough subjective choices. I think the 80’s, 90’s, and 2010’s will turn into top 20’s at some point.
Well in fairness she did say that it was very hard to do this list. I know if I ever get around to doing this, it's gonna be a struggle narrowing it down to 10 for the 90s since there are so many great choices to choose from lol.
In the end personal preference will win out. Those 2 would be near the top of my 90s list so it felt weird to me. But I am also a Nightbreed fan more than Projekt or Cleopatra. Could also come down to regional differences too.
Corpus delicti are touring again. Judith is maybe a US band you should check, they made great records.
I was like hmm I'd name so many more, then I was like oh wait, I think everything I listened to was considered darkwave or etherial - then I was like oh yeah, it was all 4AD and Project bands, so yeah basically I spent the 90s real chill.
Man, it sucks that Lycia only gets an honorable mention here because of Wake. I always figured their debut to be Ionia, but I'll admit that I tended to be kinda biased towards Ionia and against Wake as it was nigh-impossible to get my hands on it beyond cassette, which I'm not even able to play anymore.
Nice to see Faith & the Muse though.
I absolutely loooove Lycia! 🖤
@@CadaverKellyI'll admit it, they're my favorite group, so I guess I am slightly biased towards them 😂
I'll also admit that you're right though. Since they released something in 89 or so, they can't be strictly 90's (same goes with bands like Nine inch Nails, Primus, and Jane's Addiction. I know those three aren't goth, but they're all known for being "those bands from the 90's" even though they all released stuff in the 80's as well).
It's pretty awesome that someone else knows who Lycia are and are willing to give them a shout out.
What about type o negative
So many bands in here I've never even heard of and so many I have heard of left out entirely... Hmm.
Two witches, Nosferatu and Corpus delicti 🖤
It would be much better to include songs' sneak peak because without it it just a list without even descriptions :(
Can’t do that with UA-cam copyright rule, unfortunately. I did try to give some details, though.
I love Nosferatu 🖤
Type o. Negative?
i really want to be goth but is so confusing and the clothing is hard to find
My Dying Bride?
my favorite goth band in the 90's is the birthday massacre, formed in '99. not sure if many has heard of them
That's not goth but synth rock.
@@edgyintellect177 i mean they did blend a part of the goth element to their sound, but lets be honest they do have a bit of an evanescance vibe, so i can see why lots may not recognize them to be a goth band
The Shroud
🖤☠️🥀yessssssssssss🖤🖤🖤⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️
I evry time stay obfuscate by your shine;
It's so weird for me to see someone who was a baby in the 90's doing this list, having been a goth kid in the 90's. I mean no disrespect at all about it. It's just interesting to see the decade viewed in retrospect and see who was voted for completely free of nostalgia or notions that existed at the time. I was super into goth at the time and have seen some of these bands live, but for those who haven't heard of some of these bands, it's okay. Most of them weren't popular even in the scene in the 90's. Some of them, who were actually very popular, aren't mentioned at all (Switchblade Symphony come to mind).
No disrespect taken! I do like Switchblade Symphony too. It’s always tough to narrow down my top favorites. 😬
...........LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT!!!
Darkwave Baby! 👶🦇
Sopor Aeternus.
I'm a little disappointed not to see "The Merry Thoughts" on this list. "Low Violet" is one of my favorite goth songs.
The Merry Thoughts are better than Children On Stun and Rosetta Stone.
I was listening to the cure at 4. So yea goth babies are real.
