The Tascam TM-80 is most certainly an electret condenser microphone. The specs are good. Got mine for $39.99. Great mic. I honestly thought it won your budget mic review.

Great job on the video! Subscribed! I wish I had seen this and known the TM80 and the MPM1000 were the same before I bought them, but I got the TM80 NIB for 39, and the MPM1000 used in LNIB shape for 30. I'm still happy with both all the way around, no regrets. (The Marantz looks a bit sexier to me! Little black dress!😁) Both hard to beat for even under 100 IMHO. I'm glad you took the time to take them apart to see that the internals are identical, because on mine at least, the bodies are 100% identical as well, right down to the screw placement in the screens. Only differences are the screens themselves, logos/graphics, and paint. With the internals the same, I'm pretty sure the same factory in China. The Tascam name got my attention from working with Tascam recording equipment, and Marantz from having their stereo stuff, both back in the day.... Two classic names! Thanks again! 👍👍

Is that head basket shape definitely makes a difference, as I think they sound SLIGHTLY different. And thanks to your comment, and reminding me about this video... You gave me a great idea. I'm going to do a headbasket video and take two of the same mics and switch one of the headbasket to a different shape. So thanks for that idea as well! Appreciate the sub!

I was needed something like blue snowball ice mics and marantz changed my mind real quick with it's stand and pop filter plus great sound quality for bucks

Ok, here’s your two-fer. :) It room me longer than I thought. I did hear the noise you were talking about but I can’t here it on just the phone without cranking it way past the normal listening level.
My top two were the Donner and Tascam. I still didn’t find the others too bad in my normal listening mode.

Good stuff. The Donner and tascam being top 2 is pretty much the verdict with the majority.
Based off of what was demonstrated in the video, the C-1 and the DC-20 would probably be my picks due to their sound profiles having a good balance of present low and high ends while also sounding full and clean (self-noise notwithstanding).
They do kind of tie in the top spot for me.
If I did have to choose between the two, I'd probably pick the DC-20 because it is tiny bit more forgiving of what few issues the C-1 has in comparison.
The plosive rejection can be mitigated by talking across from the mic's direction, the C-1 had a tiny bit more noise floor of all mics, and while both the C-1 and DC-20 do have bright top-ends, the latter mic is a tiny bit more forgiving.
The TM-80 sounded the muddiest and was too much for my preferred sound profile.
The MPM-100 sounded close to the C-1 and DC-20, but much thinner in the amount of present fullness and maybe a bit muddy.
The GXL 1800 was a bit too harsh, too sharp, and a bit too bright in the top-end, even more than the C-1 and DC-20 to my ears.
So to rank from best to worst (in my opinion): DC-20, C-1, MPM-1000, TM-80, and GXL 1800.
For my money, I'd put it toward the DC-20.

I can definitely do the same phrase thing in the future... Great idea. Chapters...im admittedly too lazy lol. As proven by my see through mics on a green screen lol. Life is hectic sadly

I just bought one and a Beringer xm8500 also haven't got them yet but the DC-20 has a 50% off right now on Amazon the Mackie was Aslo on sale for about a similar price

GOOD CALL on the Tascam - You're right, a little bit fuller!!!! I hear a bit more highs in the Donner but not at all unpleasant in comparison to the Tascam. Unfortunately, Amazon is now charging $80 for the Donner with the wind screen, stand, cable, etc.. I'm posting this on 7/22/23......

This video nudged me towards ordering up the donner over the berhinger despite the berhinger being a few bucks cheaper, granted I reckon either would be a nice upgrade from my neewer 800

Someone getting started on UA-cam would do ok with any of them. Just listening on my phone I couldn’t pick a winner.

I'm so glad we're in the age where there's no real reason to look at something like a Neewer as an entry level mic. I can't justify spending $30 for the thin sound, awful build, and the short lifespan when an extra $20 will up your game so much more
As a person who bought a neewer years ago to see if I could record something and enjoy it.... I'm with you 1000% here.
I'm glad I went with the yeti and not the neewer while I was unsatisfied with the yeti after a year I knew there was a bigger risk with brands like neewer and fifine so I stuck with the devil I knew
@@theoutsiderjess4869 I will say for the entry levels on the USB side, Fifine has actually impressed me with the price to sound on some of their offerings. I'd lean to them over something like Tonor or CAD if someone needs cheap plug and play but I'm very curious of their new XLR/USB dynamic
Yeti over neewer all day. Though fifine.... Is less risky to me than neewer

Anyone know if the Marantz mpm-1000U (usb version) sounds the same as the mpm-1000?
If I remember correctly is sounds a little more saturated and artificial, but the highs and lows are similar

Great Mic shootout! My first video of yours I'm pretty sure. Just subscribed. I was dumb enough to sell my Tascam TM-80 last year thinking I didn't need it with others that have come to me, and maybe I don't, but I also have the Marantz MPM1000"u"(super sale as pretty much all of my mics were crazy low prices to have/try), Presonus M7 from a studio package deal (basically free). For handheld vocal style mics, IK iRig Mic (3.5mm), Behringer XM8500, AT ST90Mkii, Marantz Shotgun SG-5B, and Marantz M4U "usb", and a Presonus Revelator usb (currently for sale)... Feeling like i should have kept the TM-80 for possibly better than the rest use.... Oh, and got the Tascam TM-82 on way for only $19 new (sale) and gets remarkable review on SOS site for the money! Hope you find some of that interesting/useful. :) Rock On!
