  • In this one ill be unboxing the Marantz MPM-1000 and testing wether or not its true what people say that this mic at £45 is just as good as the Rode NT1-A that comes in at around £155!
    Ill be using the mpm-1000 as a second mic for a podcast along side the NT1-A, so I wanted to make sure its just as good so I did a few tests and couldn't believe what I heard!

    Could you tell the difference!? They were very close after a few more listens I think there is a slight difference but almost unnoticeable! Both great mics!

      Marantz should be the new standard recommendation for a condenser, now that the behringer C-1 is climbing in price. Also including a cable and a stand with a windscreen? Hard to beat.

    • @skorpers
      @skorpers Рік тому

      Definitely a tiny difference but it doesn't sound like it's a difference in quality but a difference in default frequency response, musicians won't be bothered by this as they'll be tuning it to their own preferences anyway.

      For my ears the NT1-A gets much more deep tones. Your voice sounded lower and altogether fuller. Maybe that was due to the setup, I don't know.

      Yeah cheap mics are the best right now honestly. Picking one that is adequate quality and learning how to use it will afford you the ability to use the same one for everything.

    feels like one of them has more low-mid freq boost compared to the other.. which is affecting the loudness and distortion. i dislike it somehow.
    i like a more natural/airy sounding mic.
    i think the "deeper" sounding mic is the Rode NT1-A and the lighter/airy sounding is the MPM.

    Great video Dave! I 've been using the Marantz mic for voice acting for a couple of years now and was thinking of upgrading to something higher end. Clearly getting the Rode will not be a jump worth the price difference. Any thoughts on what would be a suitable upgrade for $200-300?

    Thanks a lot for this video friend! really could not tell the difference either and the value seems just insane considering all the things you can get. I do have a question for you based on your experience, I noticed some echo towards the end of speech and I'm wondering if that can be reduced easily or if it's just part of the performance of the mic? I'm a noob when it comes to audio equipment but I'm interested in upgrading my current setup to something a bit more professional.

    • @DaveBarclayphotography
      @DaveBarclayphotography  3 роки тому

      Hey! Thanks for watching!! I can’t really hear the echo could you give me a time stamp of where you heard it 🤔 I’ve been using both quite a bit recently (recording a few new demos) and honestly I can’t fault either of these mics! I would definitely recommend the Marantz just for price and quality! Great mic!

    • @thinkrtank991
      @thinkrtank991 3 роки тому +1

      @@DaveBarclayphotography Thanks for the reply. I gave it another listen and I'm not sure if I can call it an echo anymore, maybe it's just a deep bass and I'm confusing it with an echo. Nonetheless I still think it's a great mic and I think I will be getting it. I actually have the Marantz Pod Pack 1 mic right now and I've had no complaints about it except that it's a USB mic and I kinda want to dip my toes into the XLR and audio interface stuff to use for recording custom mechanical keyboard typing sounds for my channel (check it out if you like I'm fairly new). Thanks again.

    Rode NT1-A sounds more warm than the Marantz MPM-1000. Also, the Marantz is more brilliant. I think that Marantz is manufactured by Marshall Electronics (MXL mics), because it is similar (different colors) to the V67G from MXL. By the way, good sound in your studio. Congrats!!!

    I have a rode nt usb.
    I love it when I am alone to stream, but when people are in the same room and speak, their sound is catched by the microphone. I cannot find how to reduce or supress that... I would like the mic to only take sound in front of it ( ME ).
    Would you have any suggestion or another microphone then ? Thx

    • @DaveBarclayphotography
      @DaveBarclayphotography  4 роки тому +2

      Hey man! Thanks for watching! Is it obs you use to stream? I know that obs has a built in noise gate function that will help suppress any background noise!
      Most of these steaming apps will have some sort of noise gate, but if your streaming straight from console then your might be better looking into a cheap lapel mic? Means you can just clip it straight to your t-shirt and boom should mostly just pick up you (closer the mic the better) also could be worth looking into a vocal foam panel shield to put round your mic this will kill sound coming from sides and back.
      Hope this info was helpful! Let me know how you get on 😉

    • @kzugaming4287
      @kzugaming4287 4 роки тому

      @@DaveBarclayphotography Yes indeed I use Obs Studio and played along with filters and noise gate. But I must admit I cannot find the perfect settings. Yes indeed I can cut their voices if they speak quietly but if they have action and then speak louder at a moment, sound is coming to my mic. Even if one person is 2 meters to the right, and the other is completely opposite to me in the room. Yes Foam Panel Shield could be a solution.
      I am using my DJ controller as audio interface... I was thinking maybe about buying a "directional" XLR microphone in order to suppress that cardoid microphone ? I am not a pro in that matter... so any advice welcome ( if you know a mic - XLR - that would only pick sound in front of it compared to the rode nt usb... even with noise gate it seems not to be enough )
      Thanks anyway for the answers ;-) Really appreciate.
