My wife & I love these videos. I learned so much. I've been using plastic paper clips & wood spikes, to manipulate the direction of leaf growth, on a few of our plants, and doing different soil mixes. Also, you are a natural Beauty, and make up would just be wasted plant money!. 😍🌱 but it's a good thing to always stay proactive.
My favorite pet-friendly plant to grow is Cat Grass. I always have two trays going (staggered timing) so the cats eat the cat grass and leave my house plants alone. With staggered timing, one tray is fully grown for munching, while the second tray is sprouting. By the time the first tray is fading, the second tray is grown. Just keep rotating so there is always cat grass for the kitties.
Barrina has a great bundle of shelving + lights + cover for a little greenhouse shelving system that also keeps plants away from pets. I love mine! And I use a mosquito/mouse stainless steel woven wire mesh cute to size to keep dogs out of other lower levels plants on shelves. You can wind it up to openly display your plants or unwind it & secure w clips to keep pets & plants safe.
i've had pets and plants in the same house for years, though i'm personally very new to houseplants myself. (my mom's kept a lot of mostly pet-safe stuff over the years - we have windowsills full of thanksgiving cactus and orchids, but she's also got amaryllis and we've had a peace lily.) the biggest thing i can recommend is to start off with something 100% pet safe (there are ones that are "toxic" but they really just have calcium oxalate crystals which cause irritation and swelling and pain but don't actually harm organs or anything unless eaten in very huge amounts). this gives you the opportunity to learn how your pets are with plants, and to learn where the best places to put plants might be to keep them from getting into them. (i have all of my personal plants - minus my orchid which is with my mom's - in a window in my room that both of our cats have been loving using as kitty TV. the only plant not totally safe is a little tradescantia prop but they leave it alone - my cat once gave it a good thorough sniff but a good AH AH got her to leave it alone, and once it's grown out some and is getting fuller i plan on moving it to somewhere else anyways.) absolutely do NOT get a peace lily if you have an indoor pet though (barring ofc reptiles and the like). or really any type of true lily. they are so toxic to pets i honestly can't believe they don't put warnings on them for people buying them who might not know!
Love seeing what plants are coming out in the big box stores. Two Home depots near me only had plants that belonged in the compost. Another had none. Two Lowe s had some nice plants but a small fraction of the size of your store.there must not be very many plant collectors in this area. I did manage to get 9 new plants at Lowe's . I'm really happy to see Ring of fire and Painted Lady coming out. Guess I'll be going back to Lowe's next week.
At 19:54 there was the lime/yellow philodendron. Next time you see that, can you see if it has and ID tag? I apparently have one, wondering how big it gets and how fast. Thanks! Great finds today; too bad I am nowhere near a good plant store.
That's why I always tug on them a little to see if any roots are in there. I am not above checking a plant bc they are ridiculous putting just cuttings not rooted in pots.
Please tell us what Lowes and Home Depot your at. Didn’t you used to label your videos in North Carolina where you were? Please do that. You look fine with no makeup. Sometimes a girl just wants to be her natural self.
I just heard you say your in Michigan. I cant believe there are so many plants. I am jealous. Must be Lowes and Home Depot hates Jackson. 😂 I would have bought the Scindapsus Platinum and the Monstera Albo Standelyana.
Poinsettas are highly toxic, as are some ivy. The two best resources for toxicity are The Spruce and the ASPCA has a very comprehensive list for dogs and cats (indoor and outdoor) on their site. Asparagus ferns seem to be okay? ...my daughter's cat went after mine all the time. The one you showed, Lacy Leaf is okay- naughty cat has not gone after the other type I have. He also loves my ponytail palm.

I live in Jackson, MI. We dont get anything here. It just really stinks. And winter time is absolutely nothing. Right now our Walmart even has NADA.

Spiderplants are fine for cats, but cats are definitely not spiderplant-friendly at all
