Yeah. . .I use walking speed to set up my crawlers. Taking the blast out of the motor saves the rest of the running gear and suspension/steering as well. Just ordered this motor. The stocker in the Gen8 is too snappy, even with the 1080.
Agreed, I do the same with all my trail and crawlers. I also thought the stock motor was to fast even with the 1080. I found good results with a 35t brushed and also with the HobbyWing fusion brushless system
If you get a chance, try a 13t Holmes crawlmaster sport 550, absolutely love it in mine.

@Sonoran Scale Studios yeah bud. Running it through the QR 1080 and controlled with the FlySky fs-gt5. Got a 15t coming in myself going to try just looking for that last little bit of holding power on the drag brake.
Sounds like a good setup! I ordered the 13t 550. I’ll also pair it up to the QR 1080 and FSGT5. What size pinion are you running with the Holmes?
@@SonoranScaleStudios Currently a 13t pinion. It's just fast enough that you have to stretch your legs out to keep up with.
Nice to know these kind of cheap upgrade or variants. No need to always pay for those ridiculously priced rig (unless you have so much money) and still have awesome kit. You could have just cut the shaft with dremel or any rotary tool. Thanks for the tip on motor 👍😊👍
I am running a Holmes Hobbies 550 Crawlmaster Sport 10T in my Gen8 with the Hobbywing 1080 ESC. How do you think the Surpass motor would compare? I have seen these Surpass brand motors advertised but never researched them. Thanks for the run review. It will be interesting to see how this motor does in the long term. Keep up the great work, love the videos!

Noticed you did not mention that your not using the factory wheels or tires... thats more than a $15 upgrade and makes a huge amount of difference over the stocks too.
