Why Hi Fly’s Airbus A380 Can’t Fly To Lisbon Airport

- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- Hi Fly has failed to obtain the authorization that it needs to fly emergency supplies into Lisbon Portela Airport. The wet lease specialist airline was planning to use its A380 to ship emergency supplies at some point in the near future. However, the lack of infrastructure at the airport means the request has been denied.

Airbus: refuses to make A380 Freighter Hifly: We'll use it as freighter anyway
IIRC Airbus gave up of developing an A380F because of lack of interest from airlines.
Several airlines are currently using their passenger aircraft to carry freight.
Even taking the seats out they can carry, only, about half of a freighter of the same type. Removing toilets and galleys likely wouldn't help much with that.
Martin Groeger - It isn’t suitable for use as a freighter because uf the deck in the middle.
As someone once said “it’s a very large airplane for a very small market”
As someone riding in economy once said, its a very large airplane for very small people
In breaking news the airline has rebranded and now operates as Nofly. Thank you!
They’re a lease airline. Their whole business model revolves around replacing aircraft that aren’t flying.

@Robert Hall Fair enough
@Robert Hall if the AN225 somehow made it there, watch the houses near the airport lol
@@InterpolCaptainDawn lmfao
Swiss001 disagrees
Wait... It can't?
Beja airport is some 200km from Lisbon, logistically not a problem to deliver PPE equipment flights.
Landing in Lisbon is more of a token image than logistical importance.
Saying that if the A380 could land in OPO you can bet that LIS would immeduate accomdate it!
The exact same as Jakarta ... Runways are long enough, the airside infrastructure just can't handle the weight
They still land in Portugal... Even a little country like Portugal is much more than its capital...
I gave up after 3 minutes cause title question wasn't answered. "It can't because it's forbidden" it's not enough you clickbaity knobs.
It would have been nice if they would have dived into the physical reasons. The runways are long and wide (45m + 2 * 7.5m shoulder) enough and the 777-300ER has a higher pavement loading, so that cannot be the issue either. Taxiway spacing could be an issue, but not if there is hardly any traffic as you can just close them while the A380 is operating. That leaves just taxiway width and maybe space on the apron.
Well actually the title isn't a question and also he did explain why the HiFly A380 can't fly to Lisbon airport. Your mistake.
Totally agree and this is so bad that he got the name of the airport wrong.
@@paulroling1781 It is the last reason
I still remember when the two Mirpuri brothers operated just a Shrike Commander 500 and a Cessna Centurion, flown by themselves!
Not a problem... This plane landed in Beja (130 km southeast of Lisbon).
You can just refer to ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal as ANA - Portuguese Airports, or even Vinci Airports.
Regular airlines are turing away from the A380 becauee of this reason.
Maybe but hifly has so much requests every day for this plane !
How is the Antonov An225 operated? I think it's larger than the a380

beautiful as always
I heard even that several travel agencies in Portugual want to lease Hifly A380 for holiday destinations and they can't because it hasn't permission. I find so annoying because Lisbon airport can accommodate certainly the A380 just its necessary to have a good logistics infrastructure but people are lazy...
It's also really expensive to build a triple jetway
@@solalnouvion8463 Hifly already showed that the A380 doesn't need it in previous operations for example to Madagascar
@@igorvasiljev5879 I didn't know about this operation
Its the taxiway width and maybe space on the apron that limits its operation
No. They just want to deliver supplies which can easily be carried in a smaller aircraft configured as a freighter. Use an appropriate aircraft for the task.
When you realise HiFly has Retired the A380
What if there were plans for a new airport in Lisbon? And those plans existed for over 50 years? Yeah... BTW, this A380 lands in Beja Airport often.
Where Omar Baba when you need him?
With Oil now at -$40 per barrel the 380 will be cheaper to run and once a vaccine is found millions of people will want to go holidays after being on lockdown for so long ...
Just spent 4 month in Lisboa, honestly I don’t think the A380 can land there. Planes fly in extremely low altitude in the city and even a A320 can deafen you sometimes in areas around the airport which is basically half the city. The straight distance from the airport to city center is literally shorter than the runway length (you can check google maps). But on the other hand 777s fly there every day so theoretically it can work but it’s not a good idea at all
The airport is actually called Humberto Delgado
Can you please make the video of why the Emirates A380 can't fly to Dublin
The seats look like the hard product found in previous generation SIA A380s.
Don't blame the airport. Hi Fly and Airbus know very well that the A380 is too huge for most airports.
They should get a 777, A350, 787 or A330 to service the smaller airports. They can also try to squeeze a 747 in.
The video mentions them operating an A340. They could probably get some more if they wanted. Since several airlines are retiring A346s.
Looks like they have an all Airbus fleet. So unlikely they'd operate a B747, B777 or B787.
Best channel ever! 👑👑
awesome livery from Airbus380
Ha, you can actually see the hifly A380 parked up at Beja airport on Google Maps :)
This is a con job no HiFly's part. First off, the A380 actually has LESS cargo capacity, not more, than aircraft that are much smaller. Now that's standard capacity, I do know some EU airlines have gotten permission to fly cargo in the cabin, but let's just stick with what they can normally legally carry. HiFly is trying to get the permission to fly the plane into the airport now, so that in the future the infrastructure is there for the aircraft. That's what this is. Hartford Bradley is an airport in Connecticut that allows A380's to land there as a diversion airport, and I've seen them land there. But they fallow a car which takes them down a specific route to a specific holding area. The wing alone on the aircraft was so long it reaches over into the center of the next taxi way in some areas. Then their are the engines which are so far out, they can tear up airport signs and lighting which was a big problem at some airports when the plane started flying. And then there is the weight. Some airports can serve as diversion points, but the plane can't be but so heavy or it can crack the pavement, or even settle into it forming indentations. I once met the guy at my local airport years ago who did the planning, and it was ONLY because they had just started a multi-billion dollar, facility wide renovation that they upgraded the pavement and signs to handle an A380, but that was back when it was assumed over a thousand of these things would take to the sky. Since many will not return to the skies after this stupid pandemic, why spend the money...especially when there are better options.
That is what he said
Jame M
It is easy to understand that a portuguese company wants to fly its flagship, the only Portuguese A380, to the capital city.
And the A380 still has the highest MTOW available. It’s not a freighter, but it could become very useful.
It is a shame to find so many people disliking the A380 which is truly a reference in modern aviation.
@@miks564 I don't dislike the plane, I just see it for what it is. Its a nice plane, and I would love to get on one again (but in Business or first, coach is coach regardless of the plane) , but I've worked for two airlines, and I interned at a major US airport as the plane was first rolling out. I know the logistics of this thing, I understand the business model and I've been keeping track of all the problems as the jet has gone forward. Yeah, I supposed it would be nice for them to be able to park their planes at their home airport, but that was something they should have thought of before hand. And besides, up till recently, a lot of airlines actually didn't do that. I am not going to sugar coat it, we're far past that and even Airbus admitted it when they canned the project. The A380's cargo bins are some of the cargo bins per seat of any aircraft in the skies today. If I recall correctly, they are slightly smaller that ones on the A330, and far smaller than those on Boeing jets. If they can put cargo in seats like any other some other EU airlines have, than yes, this would be big...but other wise, this is little more than a stunt. As for the airport limitations: damaged taxi ways, airport signage and lights, and cracked pavement, those are REAL considerations that airports have to deal with. Cracked pavement can be deadly to a jetliner, or at the very least a headache. I recall an A380 caused tens of thousands in damage to one airport early on because of its size or weight when it diverted there. So if Portugal says it doesn't want the plane, its a lot more than just gassing them up and food carts.
With the seats out an A380 might manage to carry few tonnes more than an A330 freighter.
That just isn't worth the hassle.
Mark Evans Lisbon’s airport is currently under renovations to increase the airports capacity and allow aircrafts such as the A380 to land there.
They couldn't handle the A380 style
1:20 Thats so slow!
The A380 once landed in Baden Baden Airport. And took of from there again. Baden Baden is almost just a regional Airport with 8 Gates. Lol.
This a380 landed in my country a month ago ,2 a380s and 3 b747 in one night,shiet..
Is it Singapore Airlines former fleet?
Satrio Em Yes.
Humberto Delgado Airport*
If it’s simply carrying freight it’s not as if it needs gate access and surely the aprons there are sizeable enough to accommodate the A380. Sadly the A380 has become a bit of an aviation white elephant. It’s a fantastic and very capable aircraft but due to a fickle aviation market it’s the wrong plane at the wrong time. Operators are wanting smaller wide body twin engined aircraft.
1:15 in and the video still hasn't even given me any useful information yet
They can use Manchester because there’s the facilities to accommodate
Do Emirates not fly the A380 to Lisbon?
they fly the 777 instead
after this pandemic i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of operators scrapped their 380's.
They could just run 2 A340 instead.
You missed the part where there are limitations on airplanes flying from China, so flying two smaller aircraft is harder than flying one big.
Use a knife and cut the A380 horizontally. End result is two A340s. This is Hi Fly’s solution for fleet expansion.
Mmh maybe if airbus can make a custom aircraft which can maybe land faster than a normal A380 but sadly they ended the program.
these are just excuses, the only thing needed is a longer ladder. Anybody can manage this
It isn’t like that, lots of airports like John F Kennedy had spent millions on modifying taxiway, runway, ramp, jet bridge to accommodate such a large aircraft and that a logistical nightmare for difficult times like this.
lenny108
I believe the bigger problem to be the wingspan. It needs more space for taxi ways and parking.
@@miks564 Even more risk of this kind of accident with an A380

Why can't Hifly land their A380 at Lukla..... 😂
The whole video is just a filler to say “plane is too big”
I expected a deeper analysis than “lack of infrastructure “, like the weight limitations on the runway, the need for a more compact concrete maybe
Very disappointed
You even got the name of the airport wrong...the official name is Aeroporto Humberto Delgado.
That tells you something about the quality of your videos...

Now they know how Iran Air feels when they can't order the A380 during the last days of Obama administration since Iran's airport doesn't have safety and Infrastructure needed to accommodate A380 planes
Yes, Lisbon should absolutely let the A380 land in Lisbon in the emergency situation because this is absolutely the time to destroy your own runway for a company's ego.
