Hi everyone. Yes I installed the hands as they are because you can reset the home position of all the hands electronically which I didn’t do in the video. All the hands can be reset to home position and then synchronised with the digital and analogue display. I just got it working and wanted to finish the video. Hope that helps
can I ask how much approx you would charge for this sort of repair?

@@zeitgeist909 I'd say it really depends on what the market looks like around where you are located (or where your business will be located). You should do some research, like reaching out to some watchmakers and asking about some common jobs.

In a situation where almost anyone else would have seen garbage, you saw something of value that just needed repair. Really makes me think of just how much we needlessly toss out for the sake of convenience. Well done, sir. You've got my subscription.
This was indeed a great display of the watch repairers fine art. However the sad fact is that outside of show casing his incredible skills it would never be an economic prospect to ask someone like him to commercially repair a comparatively low cost but badly damaged watch of this nature. I would venture to suggest that the true cost of repair vastly exceeds its 2nd hand value on resale and so 9 times out 10, it would be best sold on for parts in its damaged state.

@@NekkidWatchmaker oh ok. Makes me remember good memories of when I was around 5 years old and lived with my grandparents in their little store. It may have been a small, humble store but for a child, it was a fond, memorable experience. I would watch my grandpa pack spices into small plastic pouches for sale. And when things are quiet and he's not busy we would play with jigsaw puzzles that showed Pinocchio, Snow White, etc. Good times!!

You say "...not perfect by any stretch of the imagination..." I beg to differ, you basically did a resto as far as I'm concerned and the watch turned out beautifully afterwards, almost pristine again. So a top-notch job that anyone would be happy with. Kudos!

@@NekkidWatchmaker Awesome video. Thanks for posting. I have a skyhawk with a slow hour hand, (i.e. it takes 62 minutes to go from, say, 12:00 to 1:00.) The minute hand is fine..1 revolution in 60 minutes. The nightly radio sync doesn't correct it so it sounds like a mechanical problem. I have 8 Citizen SkyHawk variations and this is the third watch I'm sending in for repair.

Ditto. I just found and subscribed a few days ago. Nekkid's voice has a pleasant quality to it and the subject matter makes his perfect as ASMR videos. I watch before I sleep. The unabashed laughter of a child is always a tonic so I'm glad he has been incorporated as an apprentice watchmaker.
Never thought I would find someone someone capable of resurrecting the watch ⌚. He does it with patience, dedication, I would venture to say, with love, shown on his tone of voice and the way he address his child. Great job.

This has been one of dream watches for years and was lucky enough to get a used one for a steal at just over a hundred pounds in Nigeria. Sadly it's had a tough time during its early life so it's badly scratched up. I plan to get it restored but looking for a restorer in this part of the world is more difficult than findind a politician who's a saint. Now I wish I was your neighbor. Great job!

I am absolutely amazed by your skills in rebirthing beautiful time pieces. Before you, disasterous, after you, born again. I can't imagine just how pleased your customers must be. When I joined the Army, I bought a Casio, analog face, and loved it. It was not top line, but it was beautiful in it's simplicity. When I changed the battery in it, I did not put the seal in right and moisture ruined it. Watching you makes me want to purchase a fine watch for my husband, and wear one myself, once again. It's been years since I wore a watch...after seeing your videos, I think that might change. Many blessings to you and your loved ones, and to all your fans. I so pray for your prosperity!

Dear Joe something good came out of Birmingham...you! Just finished watching your 1920’s Omega pocket watch. Like everyone else I am blown away with you, the first person in my 73yrs to show me how to change the oil in my watch...no the first I have ever seen the dissembling and reassembling of a watch. I come from an aviation family and have long wondered how men made gears springs shafts etc for clocks then watches centuries ago.....how did they do it? They needed gauges jigs cutting milling tools etc. Am very happy to subscribe. May I tell you of a car mechanic who told a surgeon “basically I do the same as you do...I change old parts for new parts.” The surgeon replied “yes, but can you do it with the motor still running? Joe you are a surgeon.

He did but u see not all parts are brushed finish. Some parts are polished. Like the bracelet. He brushed it all. But overall great but since ur going thru all this trouble just an extra step to polish those parts would make it more complete. But yeah thumbs up from me still

I have the Blue Angels version eco-drive. What a great watch. It’s over 20 years old and has required less maintenance than a couple of my more expensive watches. I can’t read the bezels any longer as the font is too small but I can still tell the time. Lol.
You did an AMAZING job, repairing that badly damaged Citizen! All the best to you and your family for 2022.
I've owned a blue angels version for 10 years plus now. no issues. My favorite Watch.
@Ivan Campa So the short hand points to the hour and the long hand points to the minute. Now think about it like a plane's cockpit. When you walk in if you are not a pilot you have no idea what all that stuff does because you are IGNORANT to it, but a pilot knows exactly what they do and if he wants to check airspeed he knows exactly where to go without wasting time fumbling with the rest of the instruments. in closing please stick to your depth.
My dad has one too! Hes an ex pilot and used it all the time to make calculations. I dont know what Ivan is talking about lol... unfortunately my dads starting running into issues a couple years ago and the repair place told him he couldn't do it but this video gave me some hope and perhaps I will have it repaired in time for Xmas.
Beautiful watch and beautiful job of repairing. I told my son when he was a young man that the only jewelry that most men wear is a good watch. I have him my Citizen Nighthawk BJ7000-52E that was well used from years of military service. He had the crystal replaced and still wears it to this day. He tells me he gets compliments on it constantly. And much to my satisfaction, he told me (wait for it...), "You were right, Dad." ;-) because people do notice it. I loved it and it worked well for me. But as my eyes got a little older I simply could not read the chronograph numbers. Kind regards,

You make it sound like that watch is decades old. I've got the same watch that I bought brand new in 2008, and I think its a 2005 model, can't be older.
@@Phoenix_cataclysm_in_2040 It isn't that it is that old, it just had a hard life in several combat zones. I wore for about 10 years and once you hit 40, your near vision starts to go. I simply could not read the chronometer rings any longer. And my young man was happy to have it. He still wears it proudly. And in the immortal words of Forrest Gump, "that's all I got to say about that."
@Henery Cole Stage, I gave up on the chronograph watches when my near vision took a dump fifteen years ago (I'm sixty-one). I just wear a Seiko Solar rose gold hands and data bezal, and diamond dial markers. It's one of the more fancy iterations of this model, but in a very classy way. It's easy to read and I get countless compliments on it.
Thank you for your service. I'm retired Army and I know the type of harsh service that you have experienced. I was wounded in El Salvador (1986), and medically retired after ten years of service in 1988 (after spending a year and a half in the hospital).

Btw, I'm a former 11B airborne grunt. Then went to university, got my degree, and swapped teams to Navy intel. When the Navy saw the wings, I ended up as the ground liaison because I 'speak grunt' ;-) Now retired and living in the UK. One of those 'overpaid, oversexed, and over here!' GI's that married an English rose and stayed. Cheers!

I enjoy hearing your son. My dad never had the patience to teach me anything. He could not tolerate children in his workspace, so it is really nice to see that you are teaching your son your skills.
Once again you have taken a broken/abused watch that ready for retirement and gave it some potion to live another few years. Excellent craftsmanship and a beautiful result.
I have 13 watches and most of them are high dollar ones. I hope that if any of them need repair or refurbishment I can find someone like yourself to do it. I find it very difficult to trust anyone to replace a battery in a watch.
Thank you for posting a video I wouldn’t ordinarily watch but, your videos keep me watching as I learn quite a bit which may come in handy sometime when needing repair. Your videos also calm me, relax me and keep me mesmerized with your work.

As I said before , I would like to buy some watches from you in the future. I watched a lot of people restoring and talking about watches and they are boring. I like when your son comes to your work bench. It's realy pleasant to hear a child giggling and being happy to to see his father. I don't think anybody trimed their finger nails on camera. That's totaly different. I am not citisizing that.

I used to do minor repairs to watches 30 years ago but gave it up for some reason or other that I can’t remember. But, watching these videos of yours has reignited the want to start again and I have a simple project to start with.
My dear departed dads old smiths pocket watch has languished in a drawer for over twenty years and although it works, it can only manage about five minutes running before giving in. It’s such a basic model that it has no jewels in the movement at all, but is in quite good nick.
So I’ll see how I get on with that one. Great to see a master craftsman in action. 👍

I'm impressed to see the large movement in the large case. So often you see big watches with tiny movements inside surrounded by huge spacers.

I don't know what to say here but what jumped into my mind watching the finished product. It looks like it's new out of the box. I'm not exaggerating. If you didn't know the crystal was supposed to be domed, this looks like a brand new watch. Honestly, only an expert would know what to look for to say it was "not perfect". What a beautiful restoration.

I love my Citizen Skyhawk. It’s never been fast or slow over the past 12 years I’ve had it. Always keeps perfect time with UTC time that nasa uses.
I have the Blue Angels model too, sadly it quit after about 15 years, haven't decided whether to send it in to Citizen or just buy another.
@@wizardofahhhs759 Citizen can replace the rechargeable battery (It's not a capacitor as a lot of people state). You might even be able to do it yourself but you risk not having it be waterproof after.
@@wizardofahhhs759 I was talking to some Citizen experts and they said the trick with these Ecodrive units, especially the higher end high consumption like these U600s, is to keep them charged all the time with daily exposure to outside daylight, never put in a drawer/ never let it discharge. They should then have 80% efficiency at 20 years.

A beautiful restoration of a classic watch. I have the titanium version of this watch and it's 12 years old and still pristine. The damage to that was criminal, but you've done an amazing job. P.S. I used to love the Mr. Men when I was a child :-)

That was great to watch. I received the titanium version of this watch from my mom just after my dad passed. It was in rough shape cosmetically, but not quite as bad as this one. Citizen Canada restored it back to like-new condition for me.

I too own the Skyhawk model. Once each day, it synchronizes and recalibrates with the nearest standard time signal. I have NEVER seen it with any kind of error when compared with WWV the USA National Bureau of Standards time radio station. The titanium model is also crazy light in weight too. The LAST word in accuracy.
