Your favorite production/music making takeaway from Circles? For me I love the nuanced work they did on the snare as the verses accelerate forward. DEVILS IN THE DETAILSSSSS. Love you, and remember #kindnesswins

The snare pick up thing is something I didn't consider. Also how you picked up on the kick and snare drop outs. I always love listening to how drums and percussion drive a song doing cool shit like that. I hear it more obviously in like prog stuff but like even here its more subtle. anyways cool shit dude!

I love how details and your ability to pick out little bits like the snare and kick transitions and even the lead guitars in the intro! I've heard this song 1000 times and i never even noticed! Definitely given me food for thought for my arrangements 🔥

John, this is very cool. I had no idea about any of this and you explain it so well. It’s also kinda like describing wine 🍷;-)

Loving that you’re really pin pointing and analyzing each sound. P.S. I dig quite a few of the ‘ol posteyyy tracks haha. Have you seen his first song the one that’s like “why don’t you love me” or something 😂😂😂

This was so cool to watch you break it down and highlight everything done right! I’m so curious, would you be able to dissect Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ the production on that song fascinates me and I’ve always wanted to know why she chose to do the things they did on that song.
    Love your videos, thank you!

Does anyone know what type of bass was used for this song? I think it might be a hollow body bass

  • @paullamb3660

I think all that pad is the dark strum guitar whacked with verb. And even that little dark guitar melody at the intro. I can hear in the chorus and at the end.
The biggest thing I was looking for searching through videos here was WHAT is he using on his vocal to get that vibrato/tremolo sound? Is that just the saturated auto tune and how it interacts with his natural vibrato ?
No video has touched on that yet. And it’s the main thing I notice in this song. That fast digital vibrato on his voice.
Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Also, I wanted to say sorry for being late to the game on this video. And also wanted to say you did a great job dissecting this song. Cool stuff.

thats a great question, i would say its probably in the performance and processing together, in my experience tuning up vibrato thats naturally bigger gives it that hummingbird sound, which i imagine if i did it with a vocalist who had that raspiness post has could get us there along with the standard pop polish
