    Oh thank goodness - I've FINALLY discovered how to remove the pesky inner pre-filter. I'd struggled to understand the instructions in the manual, & was wrongly trying to remove it from the opposite end!! But even with then seeing how to do it properly (I thought the PULL note was for the entire thing not the inner portion) it was still a major challenge for me as I've severely arthritic hands & poor grip, & the darned thing was stuck fast. So I risked breaking everything & used scissors to lever the top off (which ultimately came off completely but at least unbroken) and then managed to lever out the internal filter which was an inch thick in dust :(. Hugely relieved to have finally seen what needed to be done tho so THANK YOU!!! :)

    Anyone who bought a Dyson once, especially a new model at a near full price (i.e., before the next release), will never buy one ever again -- such as myself, I bought the Dyson 'animal ball'. They don't last (and that's the least of the annoying things, that I ended up giving it away despite the investment). Lasting quality is the big difference that Dyson doesn't have compared to the Miele vacuums. I was using a friend's Miele stick model that they had had for over 10 years, and it worked like a champ. Sadly, I had to give it back, and that's when I bought the Miele TriFlex (after desperately searching around for the old one, which I could not locate new at a reasonable price). It's true that they caved into peer pressure in some respects -- I, for one, would not have minded if they worked a bag into the design, that I could pull out and replace like the old Miele stick (some people might not like the added cost of buying the bags), but such is life. You see this all the time, when the bigger, better brand caves into novelty "features" of the less accomplished brand (like Apple iphones with Samsung).
    The (long) hairs wrapping around and therefore getting stuck in the cup unless you disengage the cup into 2 pieces, as shown by Classic Vacuum, as well as the dirty inner filter is nothing different on the Dysons. (I would guess that for any product with that design, you'd have to build in a mechanism to chop up the long hairs, and that's not a likely thing for a more compact product.) On the animal ball, you could wash the inner filter, but it was disgusting, and unless you have a yard with an outdoor hose, it's not something appealing to have to do very often, but necessary because it worked poorly without regular washing with at least water to dislodge the dust that shaking and banging against something else (side of a sturdy garbage can) could not accomplish. After that poor purchase (and other people around me who purchased other Dyson products, like the fan/air filter -- what a joke), it doesn't matter how sleek the advertising or ardent the fans, it's 'been there, done that' and never again.

    I've had a really hard time, overall...quite a learning curve....with regards to the dirt cup, getting the cover on/off......and after emptying the contents, inserting the filters (sometimes they don't fall back in properly...I feel like I have to 'force' it a bit) ...then putting the cover back on properly and getting the cover to fall back down so that it's now totally flat/flush...and ultimately, putting the entire dirt cup back ONTO the vacuum (motor/batter portion of the vacuum) and then ensuring that the dirt cup is now SECURELY affixed to the vacuum.
    With regards to 1:21, where I think Miele could have done better with the design, perhaps by adding a contrasting band of color is.... many folks many not realize at first, when they are attempting to lift out that center dust filter, again, as shown at 1:21, is.... Where that piece protrudes up in the center and says PULL...that the portion you are trying to lift Up and Out extends outwards, BEYOND that Pull section in the very center. I did not realize this at first, and so while I was trying to Pull on the PULL portion with one hand, with my Other hand I was actually holding onto the Perimeter surrounding that Pull tab. So in essence, I was unknowingly holding down (i.e, the outer perimeter with the grooves/lines) that which I was actually supposed to be ALLOWING to be pulled up.
    Another tip for those who may be here hoping to get a better general understanding of the overall/entire dirt cup....
    After you've emptied out the contents of the dirt cup, it might be helpful for you to simply hold the entire dirt cup in one hand, and with the other, simply turn the cup cover to lock, and then unlock. Observe how the inner filters move around a bit, and note how the inner filters move downwards a bit. Then look at the vacuum itself, and where the bottom of the overall dirt cup connects with the vacuum, and then consider how this might impact the connection...the security of the dirt cup..and how it will stay securely connected to the vacuum itself.
    As I get more familiar with my still-new-to-me Triflex, I think what I'm realizing is that the dirt cup cover, and its Lock/Unlock functions, not only is it intended for the dirt cup itself (keeping the cover onto the dirt cup) but....perhaps more importantly....I think the dirt cup cover's Lock/Unlock movements also impact how the overall dirt cup ADHERES or LOCKS INTO PLACE, when you are placing the dirt cup back onto the vacuum itself.
    So when you place the dirt cup back ONTO the vacuum, I think you need to pay attention to how you have the dirt cup cover positioned. I think the cover needs to be in the UNLOCKED position. Then place the entire dirt cup onto the vacuum (leaning the dirt cup at a slightly forward angle, towards the front of the vacuum. Now turn the dirt cup cover into the Locked position. You should now see that the dirt cup is securely in place, and cannot be simply lifted up, off from the vacuum. (If you ARE able to simply lift the dirt cup off, then you aren't doing something correctly.) Later, to lift the dirt cup off, again, turn the dirt cup cover to the UNLOCKED position.
    Lastly, be sure to line up the 'threads' along the back of the dirt cup, and the backside of the long tube. This will provide a secondary mechanism for ensuring the dirt cup stays in place.

      The filter design for the Dysons is better. But for performance, reliability, build quality and longevity, the Miele are well ahead. There's a reason that Dyson warranty claims are so high every year, I know that cos I used to work for them.

    Hi Classic Vacuum, could you help please? Removing the pre filter and putting it back in is doing my head in. For starters, I really have to forcefully pull it out at the 9 o'clock position (thank you for explaining it like that!) and I am afraid I am going to break it. That is the easy bit compared to trying to put it back in. Do you have any tips on where to line it up or what to do in this situation? It is taking me up to 10 minutes to work out how to get it back in! It goes back in eventually but I seem to be doing a lot of pushing and turning without any idea of where it should be to click in easily. I have cats inside and we live on a farm, so the pre filter and the dust filter need to come out after every vacuum, otherwise I can't get all the rubbish out. The dust filter is easy. It is the pre filter that is bothersome. Otherwise this machine glides from hard floor to mat beautifully and has wonderful suction and is nice and quiet. Thanks.

    • @ClassicVacuum
      @ClassicVacuum 3 роки тому +1

      I am calling the pre filter the smaller inside white filter. Hold out outer screen filter housing with the top facing up or forward. Insert the pre filter with "LOCK LOCKED" symbol facing forward or up. Twist the pre filter clockwise until it stops. The lock and unlock arrow will be centered on the top or forward position. The center plastic Y peace on the top of the pre filter will also be pointing towards the tab. You will then be able to place the larger filter assembly into the screen. This does not twist and presses straight into position. If the tab is pointing up the word "Pull" should be right side up. If you can't fit this into position check the inner pre filter as it must be in the correct position. Hope this helps. You can call us any time at 330-494-711 and we will be happy to assist you.

      Same here. When I put the filters back in, and then try to close or lock everything up again, the dirt cup cover is not 'falling into place' all that easily. I have to keep turning the cover left and right...pushing down (and of course, I don't want to push too hard...or 'force' it...). It's just a lot of 'fighting' with it.

    • @christinescurr1111

      @@yippee2000 hi there Lisa, just wanted to update my situation with the Miele and for your info. I've had now for 3 months and use nearly every day and in that time have worked out the emptying of the canister. I'm pleased to report it now takes me 2 minutes. Yes, you have to force and fight the parts, I put that down to their bad design but nothing has broke yet. Lining up the 2 arrows so that the final twist to close everything up is the key. The two parts (empty canister with open bottom flap and pulled out filter part) should sit flat with the 2 arrows lined up, don't force it in yet. Push up the bottom "lid" with left hand and at same time twist top of canister to the right. I also wish it had a much smoother slide and click into the actual vacuum body but it is just a matter of making sure it is on straight before you push down to hear that click. I find the worst part of their design is the inner dust filter. While this is very easy to pull out and push back in, it should be totally washable and I can't work out why in 2021 they can't do it when other brands like Samsung can. Nevertheless, with all it's design faults as far as the canister goes, this vacuum CLEANS, I am still shocked at how much dirt (I also have 3 cats inside) it collects, especially when you vacuum regularly! Good luck with your Miele, if I could work it out (frustrated as I was!) you can too. I now thoroughly enjoy using my vacuum.

There is long hair in the family so I have to get a stick to poke in and hook out the hair - not mine! You cannot just shake it over the pedal bin as it goes everywhere so I need to go out to the wheelie which means wind frequently blows dust back over me or going out over the rain. It is very efficient at sucking but the battery doesn’t last long before needing recharging. Also converting it to use the crevice nozzle is not easy for my arthritic hands. I’m very disappointed.

    Not being able to clean out that filter is really kind of a deal-breaker. It just looks filthy. I can't imagine how bad that thing gets after a few years of use. I imagine taking a toothbrush to it over a trash can would work, but who wants to do that? This is where their canister vacuums have an advantage, and it's pretty much the only one but you take that bag out and it automatically seals shot and you're never messing with cleaning out a nasty canister or filter. I hated cleaning out my dustbuster and those things are so junky and died after a very short time. And of course they have no way to replace the parts. Total trash. I just thought this would be convenient so you can take it out to your car and clean without having to take the whole thing. That part is what's advantageous. But I've also heard that people have had their battery died after a short time. If you get there canister vacuum you don't ever have to worry about that. But then you get to drag the thing around with you and up your wooden stairs. Fun, fun. 🙄 I'm glad I don't need a vacuum immediately because I'm hoping that they make some improvements to these over time. Right now I have a 20 year old Hoover that's still going strong, and I bought it as a refurbished model. So go Hoover?
