- Ever been out playing a round of golf and thought to yourself...."geez this could make a good bush cart". In this video I take that thought and put it into reality with some "foot to the rug, string to the sky" mentality. With a walk-around tour of this 1984 Yamaha G1 2-stroke golf cart, you're able to see the ins and outs of this vintage ride. With 34 years of blue-smoke, 2-stroke fun under it's belt, I take you for a ride on this rocketship. Watch how easily it pushes through the mud as I tackle the spring trails. Hold on, this thing isn't pretty but it sure is quick. Here we go!

I have one. My grandfather left it to me. It sat under a tarp for the last 25 years behind my parents shed. Seats are perfect, probably has 20 original hours on it. My kids went out last weekend and towed it into my dads shop. It was running within the next 2 hours. 4 new tires, a spark plug and a battery. Good times for the kids.
I have a 79 3 wheel ezgo with a robin engine...Ole pal you made me smile tonight...string to the sky....
That is one unique cart! I love all of the customizations.

As a previous Yamaha G1 owner I can confirm, these things are FAST. And yes, they only work properly when nobody is looking.

Just got one of these. Loving it so far. Previous owner removed the auto lube system so I have to mix oil in with gas.

Just bought a G1 1983 foir $250. Needs a relay, belt, throttle cable, Ign switch and a Volt Regulator. Has 120psi Compression. Excited! Get the parts in 5 days!

Ive had the same cart for seven years and never done anything to the thing and its sat out side all winter and summer and she fires right up! You cant kill these machines
Imagine how many times the engine has had to turn on and off and its surprising they still run so well.
Mine does that exact thing. Foot to the floor and nothing. It used to put along at 1’ per sec and then catch and take off like a madman. Gotta figure out why.
I just purchased a Yamaha G1 2 stroke engine. I am a big fan after watching this one video. Made me LMAO. Seems to me you don't golf. Since I'm getting old I need one of those ropes to the sky. Thanks

i have an 84 as well, mine was doing that intermittent starting as well, new spark plug and it goes every time now, easy $3 fix
Unfortunately I tried that to no avail. Back to carb cleaning I think

Just bought a 85 G1. She runs like a top! My jakes lift kit is being delivered today. 22” tires on 12” rims are waiting in the garage 👍

My mom has 1 that I am going to try and get it running again. 1st part is to modify a battery new battery box for it since the old has rusted away. Then I hope to get it running again.
I just bought mine today has lift kit and 4 new mud tires make more vids w golf cart plz you are hilarious.

To anyone with a G-1 that smokes , take muffler out and barbecue it ---- burns out all oil -- , took 30-45 minutes even blew air in it and flames blew out end for 10 minutes lol
One of the forums suggested it, mine ran perfect after that
I just bought one a couple days ago. He said it wouldn’t run…. It needed a battery and the vacuum hose to the fuel pump was cracked. I replaced that and away she went ! 🇺🇸👍🙋♂️🖖🏻
I have one also it was running great until yesterday we had to push it the last 100meters to the club house. The motor may be dead. Nowon around where I live 😢 that can fix it

N.C. here...I own a custom Yama ha G1,2 stroke..that has a custom motor that runs in both directions. ..anyway enjoyed your custom ride...

I have a G1 that is the same about starting very cold nature cart.
I have 2 G1 yamaha carts....1 runs, and in progress of resto-pimp...the other the engine is out 😕 no idea what's wrong with it, that's how I purchased it.
I just picked one of these up, an ‘88. How in heck is yours so fast?!? Mine pokes along. Have not adjusted governor yet. Mine no longer has oil injection, I premix 50:1 with no ethanol rec gas. Lift kit, tires, lights and paint this winter.
That sounds like a nice setup you've got. I have no idea why mine is so fast. It sure goes like the wind. Although it is currnetly not running haha. I've got a winter project ahead of me to likely clean the carb out and see why its not running again. Will be back in it's glory before long I hope haha
Hello - can you show how you installed hitch on the gulf cart? We have the same gulf cart and like to add hitch.
Unfortunately I didn't install this hitch as it came with my golf cart when I got it. I think it's just a piece of steel welded onto the steel rear bumper
I'm in need of a cart mainly to pull two bins, garbage, and recycling to the front of the property. The driveway alone is equivalent to 2 suburban blocks. There's a slope on the top of the driveway near the home. Someone is selling one for $2k. The photos of the cart for sale look good, but those can be deceiving until I look in person.
1. What do these carts go for in good condition on the market these days?
2. Does it have the power I need as stated above?

I’d say it would have the power for sure. Around my area an older Yamaha golf cart like mine would sell for 1200-2000 cdn.

Unfortunately I don't have any part numbers for it. Sometimes I find success looking up parts diagrams online for these old carts

I just got one for free not sure what year but I know it’s a g1, I need to wire up an electric fuel pump and get a battery, but I pulled it home behind my car and now the rear axle is locked up, is that going to be hard to fix?
The rear axle may be a bit of an issue if it seized due to heat but put some gear oil in there and seen if it’ll break loose

Best to clean carb if you let it sit and if its smokey prolly need to burn the carbon build up in muffler

I have a Yamaha g1 j-31 engine I believe it’s a 1984-5-6 .? It was running fine for a year then all the sudden it won’t hardly run if at all . I checked it has low compression. Any ideas? I’m going to check piston rings first I think . Thanks for any input
Nevermind , I pulled the head off an a small chunk was missing out of the piston . Hope to just be able to replace piston
I always start by removing and cleaning the carb. If there's low compression it's likely a head gasket or worn engine rings I figure. I've never torn down the engine on my old Yamaha though so not 100% sure

I have one but wont run. Its got everything it needs to run but doesn't. I have no clue why. Any help?

Also advise not removing gov so u can keep it 20mph and under or you'll burn out the engine fast very common thing with most gas carts and lift kits are very dangerous

The G1 is not a single wheel drive as he claims. It has the same differential as a passenger car.

If you jack it up and turn one wheel forward, the other turns in reverse. The total traction is evenly distributed to both wheels. If one looses grip, you go no where. The G1 is one tough cart. It didn’t catch on due to the 2 stroke noise and smell from the oil injection system. It was made from 1979-89.

Just got.me one yesterday!! So fast. Smokes a hella lot. Doesnt turn over right away. Takes a minute.
The oil tank was bipassed and it use 2 stroke engine oil mix. With an electric fuel starter pump.
Once it gets going... It going!!
Yeah I hear ya. I just made mine into a premix machine in case the oil injection pump ever quit on me. I'm still haveing some back fire issues so have to figure that out before I can go for a rip again.
