Love watching your videos about my home state, and city of Iowa City! Have you ever thought of using one of those wireless lapel mics? I found myself having to turn the volume up as you backed away from your camera. Keep up the great work!
Moved to Ceder rapids are from California . In 2023 the governor passed a law stating pension income will not be taxed . Couldn’t afford to retire in Cali .
If someone asked me, what advice I would give , I have not lived in large iowa cities/ towns, but my experience is a small town, be polite,as friendly as circumstances allow , but keep to your self, watch what information about yourself you disclose, and if someone asks you where you from, say a small town in Iowa, because if that small town has made a reputation for it self , they tend to bag with the rest. My area every body is related , didn't know a soul , that card will be held. Honest answer.
If you are not MAGA, be aware that the “good people of Iowa” will place obstacles to you personal success in your way at every turn. They smile and say “hi”, but they will judge you and gossip about you behind your back. They will latch onto anything they can find to label you “different”. Veiled racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia is an inescapable fog that you will have to navigate and will permeate every aspect of your life. Never share any personal information with anyone. Health care and general education at every level is sinking because of the backward thinking government policies. It’s like stepping into Gilead from Handmaids Tale.
Iowa City, in particular, is known as a city of the arts, with a very strong cultural emphasis on literature and arts. Iowa City has been named as a top 10 small creative city in the US. Iowa City hosts The Summer of the Arts each summer which a series of festivals and events downtown that celebrate art, music, etc. Des Moines, the state’s largest city, also has a vibrant arts/culture scene. It is home to the Des Moines Art Center and the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. Des Moines hosts a three day arts festival each summer, which is the largest of its kind in the state and draws artists from across the nation. Here are two links for those summer events: summerofthearts.org www.desmoinesartsfestival.org

@@EmilyFarber if I was a writer, insight, new survival skills , it's not bad totally, but lots of things to adjust too
