I have an 06 325i and 2 key fobs.. well 2 1/2 I guess. One works great.. I think it’s the newer style because it doesn’t have that break line on the back you mentioned.. anyway the 2nd fob looks the same but actually feels significantly lighter than the first and works to operate and start the car but not to lock and unlock doors and trunk. The 3rd fob was inside my glove compartment box and appeared to be the the shell.. or outer case. No battery or components inside. I bought the car used and have no idea what the 3rd one is even for?.. and would love the 2nd one to work like the 1st! Lol. I hope I haven’t completely confused y’all if not, any ideas? Thanks in advance 🙂

I can’t open my key fob. Because it’s sealed. Why are the keys at BMW three heart and $50 and I can find one on eBay for $15 is that the fix?

Please help me… I watch red the video an I’m still lost? I have 06 325i I opened the key fob n there is a whole mother board as you said, now what ? The housing won’t snap back together an it’s now way to remove the battery from mother board 🤦🏽‍♂️

It has nothing to do with the old or new version. One is the standard key with a rechargeable battery that recharges while driving. The other is the 'comfort/keyless' one with a simple battery that needs regular replacement, hence the pop-cover.

So, if I buy the replacement fob, then what? I would have my old fob that doesnt recharge any more, the key insert that came with it, and a new, empty fob with a blank key. Now what? What am I missing here?

so i used a hacksaw blade to open my remote up. desoldered the battery and soldered the new battery on and installed it in the new ebay case. No battery warnings now 🙃

You missed the most important thing, the battery. The stock battery is kinda welded to the metal contact. How to replace that?

After I receive the new fob I will have to cut the old one apart, remove the internals, open the new fob insert the old board and add a new battery. I will have a new functional fob, correct?

The older E39 key has also the plate welded on the battery, I used to saw them off with a small saw or teethed knife and when you put the new back, you don't need to glue or solder the battery as the casing lock will compress everything in place. I was also gluing the covers with red RTV silicone and fill up all around the edges and when you close them back on together just use a clamp to keep them pressed together until the silicone dries up, also use a fresh napkin and wipe off the excess RTV, you will end up with a water proof key with a beautiful red line just like the M red line stitching
