    I just went through this and can say it works just fine. I did have a couple of snags though that i want to share with viewers.
    1- Yes, the replacement battery had longer leads which I cut short but still the battery was not perfectly flush on the board like the original and hence the two halves of the shell did not come together perfectly. For that, you can use the blade to shave off the three little prong-like pieces in the cover where the battery sits and that will take care of it.
    2- The lock/unlock function worked right away as I tested it before gluing the two halves back together however the fob would not click into the slot in the dash or operate the ignition. It's nothing to do with the shell. The reason was, which is what I want to highlight here, that the one chip on the board (top of the battery side) was not connected on the one end. The solder broke. Took me some time to finally figure it out. Once I welded it back all was good.
    Notes: you don't need much Super glue so don't apply directly from bottle but rather use a small screw driver to apply to the edges of the shell of the fob.
    When the fob didn't work in the slot I thought I ruined it so I bought a shell from Amazon. That didn't work either till I fixed the loose chip. Apart from not having the BMW logo that Amazon shell looks great and is very good quality.
    If you are careful splitting the OEM fob and gluing it back you should be just fine.

      I'm having this issue... what exactly did you do?

    • @marwanazzam4160
      @marwanazzam4160 9 місяців тому +2

      @@antoniagladden8501you mean the issue of the remote locking and unlocking the doors but the FOB not clicking in the slot and hence not starting the car?
      If so, the problem is that the long black chip you see at 6:21 (above the battery) is loose, or not soldered properly. Make sure to solder it back and you'll be back in business. Don't use too much solder that you make unwanted contacts. If you do then the lock/unlock function will stop working.
      Hope this helps.

    Thank you very much mate 🙏🏼 Just managed to do mine today! The battery went kaput after 18 yrs of use of the Car ( it was a spare battery, seldom used). Test driven the car w the new key, OK 👌🏼
    To Cut it out is especially difficult, its hard plastic, need sharp cutters, careful w fingers ! The L cover of the antenna, a small piece fell off.
    I seldom solder, so this is a rare skill for me, and I dont have the sucking pump, so its dangerous in case the solder melts into other nearby circuits.
    I bought the battery online ( cheap, RM30/-) BUT it had different legs, not the winding G ones but straight down, but Winged, so it wont fully fit into the hole ! So i need to shave some plastics inside, otherwise the cover wont close tight fit.
    Lastly, i would glue back the two parts using 2 part epoxy and the L piece back.
    All the time I was Cursing, Who was the Bloody Stupid BMW Engineer who made our lives Miserable by owning the car. Why did they make the key Fob Sealed ? Bloody Idiots. I have several other cars, they always have openable part to replace the battery.

    Thanks for this. I managed to change the battery for my E92. I found the 'legs' of the new battery slightly too long to fit inside the battery compartment. This resulted in the fit being bad. So, I've got to unsolder it, somehow trim the legs and re--attach. Hope this helps someone.

      High tech keys lol

    • @DiscoFang
      @DiscoFang 3 роки тому

      Well, they actually are indeed very high tech both with the recharging, the vehicle data recording on the key and the security of the design. There were only ever 10 security chips made for each and every BMW when it was manufactured. You get 2 with the car and the remaining 8 are available to order if you lose or break one. That's why they are near on impossible to duplicate or crack.
      I bought a car, needed a 2nd key and the local dealer looked the car up and said there were 6 left. The previous owner must've lost a couple. Now there are 5.

    The biggest bullcrap invention ever to take your car for service and even to replace on from dealer they want over $250 here in Canada. And it's not a normal battery replacement. My mom towed her car for this crap too.

    Why bmw make this so complicated?

  • @derekkchung
    @derekkchung 4 роки тому

    How does it get charged? Would it be the charging mechanism not working? If so, a new fob will soon die.
    When a key has been sitting for too long, it will get discharged. Would recharging usually save it or battery would no longer be rechargeable like a 12V car battery? Yes, stupid BMW design yet programming these CAS key is not easy (special equipment) even the key itself on ebay is cheap (and battery replaceable.)

    • @DiscoFang
      @DiscoFang 3 роки тому

      This is not a CAS key. The CAS key is not rechargeable for the reason that it doesn't ever get inserted into the dash, where these non-CAS keys are charged.
      No, not stupid BMW design, extremely clever and durable BMW design These batteries last 15-20 years.
