You had *precisely* the correct response to "You are who you choose to be." "Superman." Shedding a manly tear here is entirely appropriate.
This is correct
Every time this and old yeller
Indeed...
Psychopaths don’t cry. Real men cry.
@@JohnWelsh-oz3jz On occasion. Not commonly, of course, and certainly with a measure of self control.
55 years old, ex U.S. Army Paratrooper, I was raised to hide my emotions and be a tough guy. I cry every time I watch this movie.
Facts…..
Because you are a real man with a good heart, not weak
-101st Airborne
Same
emotions are what make us humans, don't hide them sir 💕
Aw yay, cause this movie is good yet it pisses me off
Don't apologize for crying, man. After all these years, I still tear up when the giant gets blown up. I love this movie so much and I'm happy you got to experience its greatness.
Literally every single time I see it, cry like a ocean of tears 😭
if only they left the original ending would left more of a impact.
@@greed42o I'm amusing the original ending is the giant not being seen at the end, I feel like sometimes but I also felt really happy the first time I saw it and seeing him at the end made me beyond happy.
for real. I can't watch the end and keep my eyes dry.
it made me cry as a kid back then
"SU...PER...MAN"
Arguably the most emotional one-word quote in movie history.
I don’t want to draw joy from watching another man cry, but you reacting exactly the way I do every time I see this movie meant a lot. This is a tremendous film
"No Atomo... I Superman!"
Fun Fact: Excluding the yells and groans, The Iron Giant (Vin Diesel) only says a total of 53 words.
Animated Rant Fact: Brad Bird personally animated the scene where Hogarth (Eli Marienthal) rants to Dean (Harry Connick Jr.) about his problems in a super fast pace after he gives him Espresso. Because the character is talking and moving about so rapidly, Bird had to actually draw at least some part of every inbetween, the frames in an animated film between the key frames.
Movie Magic Fact: First traditionally-animated feature to have a major character, the title character, who is fully computer-generated. In order to better blend the computer-generated Giant into the traditionally animated film, technicians came up with a programme that gave the Giant's lines a slight "wobble" in order to match the natural line imperfections found in hand-drawn animation. The landscape and settings in the film were created using Elastic Reality, the trees and bushes in the woods are all still paintings that go through a software that warps and morphs them giving the perception that they are moving and lifelike.
Thanks for sharing these facts its always great to learn more about the hard work that goes into these things!
Timelink ...My pleasure. 😁
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
This is one of my favorite films. Glad to know I'm not the only one that cries everytime they watch it. Brad Bird and his team were given nearly full creative control by the studio as long as the kept the budget low; and they friggin' nailed it.
Aww...what a nice reaction.
I was one of the original animators on the movie. Believe me...all of us who worked on it are so glad that so many have found our movie and hold it so close to their hearts.
Thank you so much for your very sweet vid and I wish you all the best.
Thank YOU, for helping bring to life this MASTERPIECE!
@@juleswinnfield616 Thank you so much. You take care out there. :)
A great nod to 50s sci-fi movies, never get sick of this movie!
There is no shame in crying at the end of this. I rented this movie when my 26 year old son was 3 years old. When the Iron Giant took off toward the rocket, he started crying loud. We realized he understood what the Giant was doing. That he was sacrificing himself to save everyone else. But thankfully, they had him putting himself back together at the end. Otherwise, we would have felt like terrible parents for showing this to him. My wife was also crying, but she cries during movies all the time. I generally do not cry even in sad scenes, but I am not ashamed to admit I had tears streaming down my cheeks as well.
This is one of the greatest and most emotional animated films ever made. I’ve never seen people not cry all the tears when he goes to sacrifice himself, myself included. I saw this for the first time at like eight or nine years old. Such a powerful movie with a fantastic message.
Buddy, this movie got ALL of us. I was a goddamn train wreck the first time.
Strange but I barely reacted to it the first time I watched it.
2nd time I was full on bawlin.
You know a movie's a 10/10 when it can bring out those strong emotions in you.
Super glad you watched this movie and enjoyed it. God bless ya.
And it's not even just the first time. I can watch this again and again, knowing what happens, with every line memorized and it still gets me.
Here I sit at 57 and tears rolling down my face. What a touching story of friendship!
"You stay, I go...No following."
Cue me sobbing on my couch at 5 p.m. on a weekday.
This movie will tear you up. Crazy how it wasn't a big hit at the time, it came out. Yet, has gone on to become one of the most beloved movies of all time.
That's the difference between the flashy Disney musical animations of the 90s and films like this.
When all is said and done the actual plot of the film doesn't really have any impact with most of the 90s Disney, it's just catchy tunes.
This one film is better than all their post 80s work.
It's a great film with a inspiring story and message. Remember watching it with my grandkids when it came out. I still have a copy of it in my film library. No apologies are needed for your reaction. The ending is very emotional. I'm 74 years old, and it still brings a tear to my eye. You can choose the kind of person you are. Thanks for this. Take care
Cartoons can tell powerful stories too. Brad Bird made an awesome, timeless sci-fi story about innocence, love and sacrifice.
What an excellent reaction and great editing with such emotion. Look no further than this channel for the most sincere reactions you'll see, you can tell they adore this movie. God bless you guys with excellence!
Thank you so much!
@@EOMReacts ❤ 🤖
Kent and the military guy are great characters. their scene at the end is great.
Kent was the embodiment of the red scare fear people had back then
WHERE'S THE GIANT MANSLY?
This movie came out in 1999. I was 18.
I had never cried at any movie in my life.
This changed ALL THAT!
And this is why "Vin Diesel" is a perfectly reasonable answer when asked who's your favorite Superman actor.
Art. This is art. Worthy of powerful emotions, and that's why this film was grew more and more popular from word of mouth.
This is what The Iron Giant does to people. Glad you got to enjoy the journey!
This is one of my favourite things I’ve learned about this movie:
Brad Bird was in part inspired to make this film as a memorial to his sister Susan, who died at the hands of her estranged husband by gun violence. His pitch was this: "What if a gun had a soul and didn't want to be a gun?"
Oh, my! You responded to this movie exactly the way I did. I cried my eyes out. He truly was "Super Man", wasn't he? Thank you for this wonderful reaction!
Being moved by this magnificent film makes you human. I cried along with you man. This movie hits the feels hard.
Dude, JL, we all get it, that ending messes you up no matter what age you are; it still gets to me. The hallmark of a well-made film, for kids or not.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this and shared it with us. I’ve always wanted a sequel to this!
@@HeroicaPlay The *ONLY* way I'd feel confident in a sequel, is if Hollywood had *NOTHING* to do with it at all. A Crowdfunded, Fanbase written sequel with Animators and Voice Actors that watched it growing up, would be the only real way to go.
@@James-iu2km they either do a sequel at some point or take this to Live Action with a studio that will do it justice.
Vin Diesel voiced the Iron Giant, and this performance is why he got the voice of Groot in the MCU. I think Jennifer Aniston voiced Hogarth's mom.
I have a feeling someone's making the "ain't sh!t" list in this one 😄
Really looking forward to this reaction, such a great story and I love the animation. I remember reading the book way back in second or third grade, sitting on the floor of the old library room with its old wooden shelves and bad lighting, but all I remembered was a giant robot, which is just as well since the film turned out quite different.
Imagine having such a powerful emotional movie that you make people cry only with the word, Superman
I have no idea why this movie is not way better known than it is.
"Iron Giant" is pretty much a hidden gem by now, if anyone even remembers it at all. And that is really a shame.
In my opinion this is one of the best 2D animated movies ever made. It's definitely in my top 10.
It's actually one of the 2D/3D mix movies, I'm pretty sure the Iron Giant himself was actually a CG model, though it's done so well you'd need to be looking for it, the movie has aged magnificently
Fun fact, and I didn't know this until I was 18, Vin Diesel voiced The Iron Giant! Also, trust me, I shed a tear every time I watch this movie. I feel your pain, brother. This movie is a masterpiece.
Everybody gets destroyed by this movie the first time. The animation is amazing. Really the peak of modern traditional animation.
This one is going to hit J in the feels.
That's the way it is. Years later, I still let them fall every time I watch this masterpiece. 😭
“..I am not a gun.” Damn right.
In a just world, this movie would've been a record-breaking worldwide smash hit and had a theme park ride named after it.
Hah. Believe me.....all of us who worked on the film were pretty stunned that WB never let the public know if was out there. LOL.
But....we're all glad that it found it's audience and considered one of the best ever made.
All the best!
It's always the movies you dont see coming that will hit you the hardest. Great Pick, loved the reaction. It's understandable considering how the ending goes.
Everyone needs a hug after watching this movie. I haven't watched it since the year it came out, and this just wrecked me as much as the first time I watched it, even though I was just watching your reaction and only snippets of the movie. I'm in tears. Thank you for sharing your unfiltered, genuine reactions with us. This is what makes you and this channel so special. ♥
Have you watched the movie since?
When he added whipped cream to the Twinkie
…”oh he’s a game changer”. I literally cackled. 🤣🤣
"SUPERMAN"!!!!!!!!! I'm A old man now retired military combat vet my skin is tougher than boot leather. Not much gets to me. I saw this when it came out and I've seen it about a dozen times over the years. I still cry like a baby!!!!! No shame in it. it tells me that I still have a heart. I'm glad to see that you do to. GOD BLESS ALL HERE!!!!!
The scene where Giant believed Hogarth was dead always gets me. That and the message about choosing who you want to be is some of the best lessons to ever come out of an animated film.
I’m sorry but I was crying and laughing at the same time.
NOT at YOU but I just KNEW you were going to cry.
You’re such a BIG teddy bear and I LOVE that about YOU! 🐻❤️
I’ve seen it before, but I cried anyway. It’s such a moving scene. “You stay. I go. No following.” But the good part is that he can fix himself, and he’ll be able to see Hogarth again. Thanks for the reaction!
Don’t ever apologize for crying my man, you reacted how I still react to this day to this scene, he didn’t want violence all he wanted was to live and for peace. But when a peaceful man gets pushed to far he snaps and becomes afraid of what they become when they snap and this movie incapsulates it all perfectly, and to know he willingly sacrificed himself when he was in the right mind set was just genius
Don't know if it did but this movie should have won a award for music compilation. To me, second only to the story, the music ques is what ties this movie into a great piece of art that can evoke such emotion in watchers and makes it truly great.
Glad you finally got to watch this, this is what great movies do allow you to become invested and feel an emotional connection to the characters.
This movie surprises everyone with how good the animation is and how touching the story. I can't count how many times i've seen this movie, and it still gets me every single time. Really glad you enjoyed it, and I'd like to nominate Kent Manly for this years Ain't S#it list.👍

"-You are who you choose to be.
-Superman..."
Tears (even just watching this reaction) :(
Im right there with you 😭 when he said Superman .. 💙💙 my heart went into a million pieces
I love this movie so much and I'm glad you were able to connect with it. Don't apologize for crying. There's plenty of reactors here on YT that fake their reactions. Getting to see someone earnestly feel what they feel is what makes you a great reactor. To me, seeing someone not hold back what they feel gives me "permission" to feel the things I feel, too. I cry way more watching movies and TV shows, especially animated ones, as an adult than I ever did as a kid. Age gives us the experience to empathize with these characters, understand their struggles, and appreciate their stories, so don't feel ashamed. Great reaction as always. PS... When's HTTYD 3?! 👀I'd argue it's less sad than this one.
I've watched this a dozen times over the years, and I STILL ugly cry at that "Superman" moment.
Seeing you laugh and cry at this makes me glad another persons discovered the value in this largely overlooked gem of a film.
Even though I've watched this movie a million times and I know the giant survives, I cry. Brad Bird understood the true essence of a superhero, the essence of Superman.
Man.. the 1st time when The Iron Giant mutters the word "Superman" I just loose it.. this movie has such a special place in my heart. 😊
This is one of my favorite animated films, and probably my favorite Vin Diesel movie. It was one of the first DVDs I ever bought 20+ years ago, and it still makes me cry every time I see it. I also love the humor in it.
I haven't cried to this movie in years, But watching your reaction brought tears to my eyes. I hope to God they never remake this movie.
Agreed, this movie has aged basically perfectly and requires no remake at all, though a few movies have taken it as a bit of a spiritual successor
Being a hero is what all good men want to be. No harm in crying, if it genuine and pure.
I love this movie so much - got it for my kids when it first came out, and have watched it many times since. Looking forward to watching it with you :)
Oh man, we are gluttons for punishment. You've got us crying all over again! 😢 😭
You are SUCH a shining example of masculinity, JL. Thank you for showing your feelings. ♥
I have never wanted to give someone a hug as much as I do right now lol.
I've watched this movie at least a dozen of times. Iron Giant's sacrifice always makes me cry.
"You are who you choose to be."
"Superman...."
"The Iron Giant": The animated half of The Cold War duo of 1999. (The other movie is "October Sky," about the early life of Homer Hickam Jr., and The Rocket Boys.) I've read that this movie was a box office failure. Over the years, it has risen from cult favorite to word-of-mouth Classic. Great voice acting from Vin Diesel as The Giant. What gets me is the Iron Giant's last conversation: "Hogarth, you stay. I go. No Following."
I still get choked up when is sacrifices himself saying "Superman".
My autistic son just told me what year this came out. 1999 he knows what year every single animated film was made.
I discovered this movie when I first came out. It is simply a hidden gem. Hollywood just doesn't make movies like this anymore.
I've probably seen this movie 20 times...I tear up at the end every time....
No shame, bro....That last Suuuupppperman is heartwrenching...
This movie makes me cry every time I still love it after all these years. 🫶🏻
This’n is a pretty good double feature with Titan A.E. 😊
My youngest son my little boy used to love this movie we watching together on repeat over and over. Reminds me of sitting with that little boy who's now a Marine.🤜🤛✌❤
So a bit of a sad story behind this movie, fair warning. The director, Brad Bird, had a sister who was shot and killed by her estranged husband. So he pitched this movie with the question of "what if a gun had a soul? What would happen if a gun chose not to be a gun?". It's a terribly sad, but beautiful sentiment. And that quote where hogarth says "it's bad to kill, but its not bad to die" has stuck with me ever since I first saw it as a child.
Bless you for your honest reaction xx this is the type of adventure & friendship I think a lot of us wanted in our childhood
Nobody goes into this movie expecting to cry yet everyone does.
Such a good movie! Thank you for selecting it! We cry together. 🤯😢👏👍🐾
This movie is easily one of the best animated movies at the end of the century. It's so endearing. It literally makes you feel like a kid again. It really speaks to our inner child. One of Vin Diesel's best acting credits too as the Giant. With one word this film can tear me up. His complete happiness of doing a loving act like sacrificing himself to save people and do the right thing when he says "Superman". It just kills me. This movie has a surprising amount of emotional depth for an animated film. Bravo, Brad Bird. Bravo. If you want another great animated film with some emotional heft, I can't recommend KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS enough. Thanks for another sincere reaction, brother. You and the boys stay well.
No matter how old I get, I will always cry to this movie.
My great grandfather,
William T. O'Halloran served on the USS Nautilus! Which makes its appearance as the submarine that fired the missile.
I've seen this movie many times and watching this along with you I still teared up. I don't know anyone who doesn't. It's such a great movie, that it can be that funny and inspire so much genuine emotion at the same time.
This is an awesome movie. I love the ending. Very underrated movie that people don't talk about enough.
It has been 25 years since I watched this movie. So good and so sad.
One of my favorite animated films of all time, its something how drawings can bring out such emotion in us and make us feel just as much as movies can and sometimes even more.
I cried my eyes out the first time I watched this too. I don't know anyone who didn't at least tear up their first watch. Glad you could join us.
We're all crying right alongside ya... such an amazing movie. I loved the reaction!
This movie gets me no matter how many times I've seen it. Your reaction was wonderful through the whole video. It's okay to cry, that's the correct response to it.
Don’t apologise, I’m 31 and I weeped watching this reaction man, especially at the end, this is a beautiful movie about friendship and it’s a heartbreaker,
It’s a great movie.
Breaking down into tears just means that you have a good heart, man. Thanks for the vid. ❤
My #1 favourite childhood animated movie...
26:20 Those things that "grow" out of his back is a direct reference to "War of the Worlds." The Original movie. Those things are styled after that, I'm sure. Nice little ohmage.
Your reaction really touched my heart. I love how you are not afraid to show your emotions. Keep being you.❤
I showed this movie to my kids about a month ago. They both loved it. Such a good movie.
I've seen this movie half a dozen times and that scene still wrecks me every time.
Look, if someone doesn't cry at the end of this, they're the one with problems.
20:35 - That might just be the longest I’ve ever seen you laugh for any scene of any movie that you’ve reviewed since you started this channel.
God, I swear my man here…gives the most heartfelt reactions NO MATTER what it is. Love every one of them man. Keep up the good work.
"Suu-perr-maaannn..."
Gets me every time.
This was such a treasure of a movie. I wore out my vhs copy of it when I was young.
I'm a grown man and this movie makes me weep everytime.
