Climbing the Matterhorn

- August 6, 2022. The day after we landed Zurich, my dad and I took advantage of a short weather window and went up the iconic Matterhorn, which I've been dreaming of since I was a little kid. Definitely lived up to the expectations, such a cool peak!
I watched this a while back, and today was climbing up a steep trail out in the mountains in New Hampshire, and found myself singing "auf das Matterhorn" to myself!
Never thought i'd enjoy German folk/pop/dance tunes so much 😂

That is so awesome!!!! I'm so jealous. I was in Zermatt when I was in college and I so wanted to do this. First Eddie climbs Everest....now you guys climb the Matterhorn....Man!!! so cool
Loved this video as always! I got hooked after your seeing your Capital Peak video years ago when you glided over the knife ridge. If I may ask, what is the name of the head-mount camera are you using?
Great video, Could you do the maroon bells traverse or the little bear to Blanca traverse?
Love those routes! Might have to go back. I’ve thought it would be fun to do a series on the 4 big 14er traverses

More info pls. Explain your logistics. Unroped all the way up? Only one person rappelling?
Started at Schwarzsee taking the first gondola up. 1hr to Hornli, then 1.5 to Solvay, then 1.5 to top. Unroped for the ascent. On the way down I lowered my dad on a few of the steep sections then I downclimbed while he coiled the rope and got a head start on the next part.

What combination of boots and crampons were you using?
TX guides and black Diamond contacts. I climbed it again the day after though and did not bring crampons and felt comfortable
everything that matters. no virus, just the danger of free falling
Bolts, ladders, boat ropes, etc. Why not a gondola ?
Yeah, I was surprised by that. I wish it wasn’t like that. But, to be fair- the vast majority of the mountain has nothing- only a few sections have fixed lines.
