This video is about installing a harbor freight 3500lb badland winch on a 2014 Can Am Renegade, my hope is that it is helpful for anyone installing any winch on any atv.

I used the mounting plate that came with the winch (not easy or awesome), followed your electrical advice, followed your beer advice.

Thanks for the video. Just purchased a 2022 850 xxc. The frame must have changed since then and the area you mounted the contactor in no longer exists. I made a bracket and utilized the bolts 2 bolts for the power steering unit to mount the contactor, on the left side.

Nice video. I will add that i did what you did and hook the switch signal wire to the accessory plug. It faulted my machine out, and couldn't get a restart.
If anyone follows this advice, do not hook it to your accessory plug. The fix for me was to pull up the plastic. There's A little white plug near the fusebox on the front left of the machine.. Hook the wire there instead, and save yourself a huge headache from the faults and no communication errors your machine will give you.

Hey man, how different are the g1 to g2 s ? I have a g 1 but hate how the fair lead mounts on the outside of the bumper , wondering if the g2 would bolt right up or with little mod ?
Hey I got a question about the kfi mounting plate where did you get it and will these brackets work with most winches or if I buy the factory winch will it work with most winches i have a 2018 Can am Renegade 570 any help would be appreciated
I'm working on getting some links for the mounts asap, but I just called KFI and looks like for your 2018 570 the part number is #100920, if it happens to be an XMR it will already have a winch mount plate that will take this harbor freight winch. Looks like there are some available on both Amazon and Ebay. Hope this helps.

@@EscapePowerSports the bracket would be an xmr? What about fairlead did that come with the winch or bracket or did you buy that separate I appreciate the help
@@killaquicks212 no problem, and the part number #100920 is for the normal Renegade 570.
The XMR model already has this bracket on the bike from the factory.
The upper support bracket I mounted at 1:57 in the video was included with the KFI kit.
the fairlead I attached at 2:18 was included with the winch from harbor freight. Most winches will include a fairlead with the winch.

Does the winch seem backward to you? I have the KFI mounting plate as well and followed you and the directions but I feel like the wires should be coming off the left side

It's been a while since I did that job, but I do remember experiencing similar feelings about it seeming backwards. I think if we swap the orientation the cable wouldn't feed off the bottom directly into the fairlead? so if you wanted to switch the orientation you might have to unwind the cable entirely and rewind it in the opposite direction? What model number was the winch mounting plate ?
The machine in the video is a 2014 Can Am Renegade 500 so I used the kfi mount #100920, but if yours is a different year or model I would call to make sure you get the right one for your specific machine. they have a bunch of different plates for different models,
Tip, test everything before wrapping with electrical tape. And probably best to just get a 12 pack from the start, then you dont have to drive back n get more. lol. Jus sayin..

Any idea if the installation would be the same for a 22 renegade xxc 1000? I just bought that same winch and ordered a kfi mount
not sure as the newest renegade I've put one on was a 2015 I believe. but the kfi kit usually comes with pretty good instructions so comment back and let us know how it goes and if it was similar to video or not. I also just got a 22 Xxc 1000. The dealership told me the renegade needs a special narrow winch

Same setup for a 2020 ? .... Does the winch have to be mounted first then mount the “ winch mount “ to the quad ?
I did it the other way and now the winch doesn’t fit , maybe this is my issue . I mean no winch will fit I have five sitting at home . So wondering if that’s my issue or if the dealer sold me the wrong mount
not sure if its same set up for 2020, but if we ever get one in I'll let you know
see 2:11 as yes I think that is probably your issue as the winch goes in the mount first then the whole assembly goes on the machine.

You got a part number or anything for that winch plate?
yes theres a link to both kfi 100920 (used in video) and 100725 (fits other models) in description, but which model and year are you working on?
That is a lot of extra wires. For others, if you buy your winch FOR and FROM Can-Am the wires are cut to near perfect length.
very true, and that install is quite a bit easier, but I'd imagine the total cost being $400+? so for my budget harbor freight it is unfortunately. Could have probably cut the wires to length and soldered on new connectors for a cleaner finish too. Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your experience in the comments. Cheers
